"Climb, climb, climb," that is what the young man said to himself while climbing the side of a building. Now this building wasn't the tallest, but it was still of a frightening height, especially more because this young man didn't have a ladder or a rope. All he had was a pair of gloves with hyper suction capabilities that he designed himself. Mind you, the design was shit. He barely put any thought into the backend of the design, like the fit. All he focused on was the main part about sticking onto that damn wall, and even that was bad. He was risking his life for whatever he so desired in this building. Nothing else mattered. It wasn't that he didn't care for his life, but it was that he wanted a better one. He wanted his world to change, specifically his worldview.
Up he went, climbing and climbing, and as he reached for the tippity top, his gloves gave out. In that moment he slammed his hands down on the edge, using all his strength to pull himself up. Huffing and puffing, he managed to get to the top. He had done it. He scaled the glass building with his determination.
But there was no time to rest.
Running off the edge, he uttered the words, "Go big or go home." The wind pressed into his face harder and harder as he kept falling, waiting for the right floor. As he continued his descent, he was about to approach the floor he was looking for, so in a quick motion he reached to the side of his leg for his grappling gun and pre-aimed toward the building, lining up his shot, and fired—shattering the glass window and attaching to the window frame. Slowly but surely he rose up to the window and maneuvered through it.
Once inside, he was encompassed by darkness, but he came prepared. Tapping on the temple of his head twice, lenses came protruding from his eyes, giving him the ability to see in the dark—night vision, another one of his inventions. What was once dark became light. He saw everything.
Walking down the corridor, he saw cameras on both sides—one further up and one more down. When he was about to run and smash them, he stopped himself. Getting to what he wanted would be too easy. So he reached into his utility belt and pulled out a big round metal ball. He rolled it on the ground, and smoke came out of the six holes engraved in it. This smoke helped reveal red laser tripwires that were around the whole corridor.
Now everything was in check.
The young man ran forward at full speed with a wide grin. He then proceeded to backflip over the first laser and twist his body midair to dodge the second, third, and fourth. Finally, to get over the wall of lasers blocking his path, he landed on his hands, pushing up and flipping over. He then threw a rock he had in his pocket at the camera behind him, making it fall over and break. Then he started walking to the other camera and smashed it into pieces with his fist.
At the end of the corridor, a vault appeared in the young man's view—a vault with large steel pillars blocking the entrance. But this was just another obstacle he had planned for. He dug into his utility belt and brought out a knife, and with just the press of a button on the hilt, a blade of radiating energy emerged. With a simple flick of the wrist, he sliced up the steel poles.
Now face to face with the thing he sought, the excitement boiled over. He couldn't wait, contemplating if he should just crack open the safe or bust it open just like he did with the steel bars. But that thought didn't last long. He immediately cut up the safe.
According to his planning, there should be a golden pedestal with his hard-earned prize put on that golden pedestal.
There was nothing.
Nothing at all.
Then a feminine voice appeared out of nowhere, saying, "Is this what you're looking for, you thief?"
The lady came out of the corner of the vault.
"Hey, there's my prize."
Examining it more, it seemed the lady did not take the prize out of the casing.
"So you wanna give that back to me?"
"This wasn't yours to begin with, you thief."
"Thief? What would make you think I'm a thief?"
"I don't know. Maybe you breaking and entering this building. You should've done this little operation at another time. I saw you while I was patrolling the city."
"Wait, what's a lady like you doing patrolling the busy streets at night?"
"That's none of your business. All you need to know is that my being here is not in violation of any law. I am not a criminal like you."
"Geez, lady. I didn't want to have to do this, but say goodbye to that smug attitude, because you're about to be in a world of pain."
He then proceeded to point his knife at her.
"So you intend to kill me with that?"
"No. Won't kill you. It can't fully cut human flesh, only paper-cut-like cuts, but it's still gonna hurt."
Rushing in, the young man threw his knife up in the air, then jumping, proceeded to kick it with his right leg directly toward the woman's face. The knife traveled with tremendous speed due to the energy from his foot, but to the young man's surprise, the lady just tilted her head.
Running again at full speed, this time he aimed for the lady's side, which she simply walked backward from.
"Boy, are you shitting me?" he chuckled.
"Nope. Just getting started."
He took out the same smoke ball from earlier.
"Now you see me."
He rolled it.
"Now you don't."
Rushing toward the shadows, he took out three more knives, throwing them all at her. Now he had an advantage because of his built-in sight, but she didn't. But she still dodged them by walking.
Using his grappling gun, he attached it to the steel bars he broke. They were damaged but still sturdy enough in the front. Lined up right toward the woman's position, flying across the room, he extended his legs as far as they could go and aimed straight for the gut. But like all his other attacks, it was useless against her.
But the attack didn't end there.
Jumping off the bars with his legs, he went flying toward her, aiming right at her with his hand. Now this wasn't like any of his other attacks because he betted on her dodging. When she dodged one of the knives he threw, it was in sight. All in one motion, he grabbed the knife and twisted his body for a point-blank slice. It nearly got her, but by an inch she bent over to escape.
Dropping the knife, the young man walked away.
"I admit it, you're strong, lady. I've got to give you that."
"And little boy, I've got to admit you're trash."
"Well, it seems this trash boy beat you."
"What do you mean?"
"Look at your feet."
Surrounding her was a small ring of knives.
"You see, I'm something people call a mad scientist, and this right here will blow your mind. Literally. Boom."
As that word echoed, nothing happened.
"Boom."
Nothing again.
"Boom. Come on, why won't this work?"
"It was a nice plan, little boy, but it actually had to work to do anything to me."
As she was about to step out of the circle, the boy said it as loud as he could:
"Booooom!"
Explosion.
Not a big one, but not relatively small.
Dropping to the floor and letting out a big breath, he said, "Sorry, lady. Had to do it to you. It won't kill you. It just knocked you out."
Taking a big stretch, he got up and said, "Without further ado, my prize."
Going to grab it from the woman, she had it tightly in her hand.
But suddenly her eyes opened wide.
They were as bright as the sun.
She then grabbed the boy's arm and lifted him up while she still stayed laid out on the floor and slammed him down on the ground.
The boy could not breathe. The wind was knocked out of him.
"That's all you got? You really pissed me off now, boy. By law, according to the Aegis Concord, I sentence you to death."
"Waa… what did you say? The government?"
Looking closely at the woman, he saw her dressed in full black attire.
"Wait, you can't kill me! I'm just a little thief! What did I do?"
"You aggravated me. So why shouldn't I kill you? Look in the box."
"Mphhh… I don't wanna."
"Please, lady. Look in the box."
As she opened the box, she found a small pendant.
"Look. This is a family heirloom that somebody lost. I'm a thief for hire. See? It's nothing special. I was just going to return it and get the money for it."
As the woman looked upon it, she opened it up and saw a little girl with light blue-tipped hair and her father, who had big glasses.
"Am I supposed to care?"
Throwing the pendant to the ground, she then raised her foot and shattered it.
"No! What have you done? My money! Wait… what am I doing thinking about money? She's gonna kill me. What do I do? I know. Oh yes, that's it. Run!"
Running away at full speed from her, the boy almost made it out of the vault, but before he could reach outside, she appeared out of nowhere and decked him right in the chin.
Standing over his body, the lady laughed.
"Any last words?"
"Don't do this."
"Haha. See ya."
Balling her hand into a fist, preparing to smash in the young man's face, closing his eyes for what he thought to be the end of his life, he heard a new voice that sounded, from what he could tell, right between him and the lady.
The new and mysterious man had said, "Tch tch. Now this won't do. Are you being a bad girl again, Mimi?"
Opening his eyes, the young man saw what he could only think of as abnormal: a man dressed in the same type of black clothing as the lady, standing between him and her, squatting, and having his pinky finger stopping the woman's punch.
"Both of you have been a little naughty. so, I think we need a little time out."
