Chapter 12 - Chapter Twelve

On Umaru Musa Yar'adua Road, a black Land Rover sliced through the bustling traffic, its destination set for Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport. As the car finally eased to a stop, a tall, impeccably dressed figure emerged from the cool airport terminal, the automatic doors whooshing shut behind him. It was unmistakably Edward Njemanze. The driver slowly pulled the car up, the engine idling with a low purr.

Edward wore a sleek black Versace suit, exuding an air of refinement, accentuated by his neatly trimmed beard. Despite the passing years, he remained remarkably handsome, with only the subtle wrinkles near his eyes and a touch of grey in his hair betraying his age. A faint scent of his cologne, a mix of citrus and spice, lingered in the air as he approached the car. It was unmistakable that he was Michael's father, as both father and son possessed a captivating and noble aura.

Exiting the car, Jessica hurried towards Edward, dressed in an elegant white midi Carolina Herrera dress and stylish tan wedges by Sarah Flint. She warmly embraced him as the driver loaded his luggage into the trunk. Patricia, wearing a blue Versace coat over her Sergio Hudson blue turtleneck, wide-legged trousers, and a matching belt with a gold circle buckle, remained inside the car, possibly trying to avoid the lingering paparazzi huddled near the airport entrance.

After exchanging greetings with Edward, Jessica made her way to the passenger seat while Edward settled into the back seat of the car. He was delighted to see his beautiful wife, whose radiance always shone like the sun. Edward lovingly kissed her cheek, and Patricia smiled, captivated by his unique fragrance.

'Is Michael very busy?' Edward enquired, his voice breaking the tranquility that had settled within the car.

Before Patricia could respond, Jessica answered, her tone laced with a hint of sadness. 'He chose not to come. He doesn't want to see me.'

'Why is that?' Edward asked, his voice filled with curiosity.

Jessica paused, memories flickering across her mind. 'Ever since Michael and I were young, we shared so many experiences together. Your house became my second home, and I could come and go as I pleased.' She hesitated, her voice softening. 'But as Michael grew older, he seemed to lose interest in me... I'm at a loss for what to do now. Uncle, please help me... You know how much I love Michael, right?'

'You don't have to worry, Jessica. The marriage between you and my son is already decided,' Patricia said, offering reassurance with a sweet smile. Jessica nodded, gazing out of the window. The car fell silent as everyone focused on reaching home.
