Chapter 1 - Bangladesh's Freedom

In 1971, the people of Bangladesh were fighting for their freedom. At that time, Bangladesh was known as East Pakistan and was ruled by West Pakistan. The people of East Pakistan faced discrimination, injustice, and unfair treatment for many years. They were not given equal rights, and their language and culture were not respected.

The leader of the people, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, raised his voice for the rights of the people. On March 7, 1971, he gave a historic speech that inspired millions to prepare for the struggle for independence.

Soon after, the Liberation War began. Brave freedom fighters, known as the Mukti Bahini, fought against the Pakistani army. The war lasted for nine long months. Many people sacrificed their lives for the dream of an independent country. Villages were destroyed, families were separated, but the people never gave up hope.

Finally, on December 16, 1971, victory came. With the help of India, Bangladesh achieved independence. The red and green flag of Bangladesh was raised high, symbolizing the blood of the martyrs and the green land of the country.

Since then, December 16 is celebrated as Victory Day in Bangladesh. The freedom of Bangladesh reminds us that courage, unity, and sacrifice can bring independence and dignity to a nation.
