Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 - Tristain - A New World

I opened my eyes and to my surprise, I was already in the grasslands.

Outside what looked like a starter town with high spiked wooden walls and four guard towers, one on each corner of the city.

Lines of NPC's with horse drawn carriages at the town's gate awaiting entry to peddle their goods. This town, despite being the starter town, is defended by many guards.

Some at the entrance, and many along the walls bordering the town.

I can count at least 30 spears.. My senses began to tingle as if something was behind me, I turned.

Through the trees along the forest's edge I could see the eyes of something or someone.

Danger!

Without hesitating I ran away to the town, beginning my journey in this new world.

I'm only level one, no need to risk it.

I lined up behind people noticing everyone was staring at me, yet when my eyes met theirs they quickly turned away..

Am I scary to look at… what is the problem…

Some kids of a nearby NPC even joked,

"Mommy, what's wrong with that man he's skinny as a twig and only has underwear on!"

She quickly turned him away smacking him on the head saying,

"Don't judge dear, let us go ''

That was when it hit me, I was almost naked…. I looked my body up and down, realizing I was partially naked and must look like a crazy person…

Where are my muscles…this body looks nothing like my character from the creation. I look malnourished and about to keel over any second!

While attempting to hide my embarrassment an elderly man with a carriage pulled up behind me tightly pulling the reins of his horse,

"Wooooahh there girl"

The man quickly saw that I was missing pants and began to laugh,

"Fun night on the town huh?"

I couldn't help but sigh,

"If only that was this issue"

The elderly man laughed and crawled into the back of his carriage nearly falling into the cargo before pulling out a patched pair of trousers,

"Well you can't go into the town without pants.. I can't help much… but take these. The name is Oswald, good to meet you."

The NPC's in the game are insane, I really feel like I'm talking to someone. They analyzed the situation and reacted. How interesting.

He threw me the trousers,

"Thank you Oswald, I don't know what I would have done without you."

Damn that Akuma, putting me into this world with pants. I swear I can hear him laughing…

The old man laughed and suddenly flashed the pommel of his hidden sword,

"I've been young before! Believe it or not I've been an adventurer, had my fair run in with brigands and thieves. Who hasn't lost a pair of pants before"

I smiled but suddenly felt a bit of anxiety.

I'm in a world where weapons are needed to survive. I have nothing… what to do.

The old man could feel my unease,

"Don't fret there son, go to the adventurers guild, while they may joke at your expense, you can rent a weapon as long as you bring it back in good condition. If you lose or break it, you will have to pay them a fee."

Before I could answer I heard the guards calling behind me,

"Than—"

The guards called at the gate in a rugged voice,

"Come to the gate or lose your place in line! Next!"

I quickly turned and ran to the red leather armored guards with a twin crossed spear emblem displaying from their banner and chest plate.

"Pass please"

I looked confused at them,

"But I have no pass, I've never been here before."

The guards looked at each other, one of them explained,

"To get in and out of the city you need a pass. Or you need to pay the fee, so what will it be? Lookin at you, you don't look like you can do either"

Slightly agitated I started to check the pants for anything I could find,

What's this! A single gold coin was in the pocket.

Should I give this back to the old man…

The guards became agitated,

"What will it be, enter the city or scram. That will be five silver!"

I pulled out the coin and gave it to the guards,

"Can you give me change?"

The guards began to laugh,

"Change? We'll just be holding onto that."

They swiped the gold from my hand and shuffled me inside.

"Welcome to the border town of Tarth, don't cause any trouble or we will take more than just this gold coin from you. hahah"

I could feel my demon blood starting to boil, and a heat within my chest. I decided to continue on, no sense in losing my shit the first ten minutes into the game.

I mischievously looked back,

I'll be back, don't you worry NPC guards. Take out a few of them and hopefully the game will spawn better ones back in. Better for the town as a hole that way,

I thought justifying my desires.

I looked around, the town really felt alive, there was a main road leading into the market with small pavilions and shops all around.

Even stands along the main road with eager merchants hoping to sell their goods to fresh customers.

I started to walk along the main road,

So many people and don't even get me started on the girls. WOW. Even if it's the medieval age these girls in armor are so beautiful, I feel like I'm in paradise. This game talked about fertility, I wonder how much you can really do with the NPCs in this game…. Hehe.

I shook my head ridding myself of the vulgar thoughts then continued on.

I made my way down the road, passing armor and weaponsmiths, a butcher and what looked to be an alchemist shop before I got to a large imposing building named the Tarth Adventurers Guild.

This must be where the old man had wanted me to go, this is it! I will finally become a real adventurer.

I walked through the doors arrogantly opening the door with a bit of force to the sound of someone playing the lute and singing.

Soon after, the sound of metal armor clinking together filled the air as mostly human adventures passed by, and the clashing of mugs filled with a type of honey smelling ale entered my nose.

Even some adventurers were arm wrestling to a wide crowd around them. All wearing an identifying piece of metal to show their associated rank.

I walked into line behind a few adventures and scanned the area.

I see…. A lot of dark gray iron looking plates with some bronze mixed into the crowd.

I looked around at the edges of the building where some adventurers sat more secluded.

A silver piece! They must be strong… That reminds me, where are my panels? Most games will give you large screens to show your abilities and stats but I've seen none of that.

I continued to look around and found a board of what seemed to be missions, written in a language I didn't recognize yet was able to read.

They were separated by larger and different color pieces of metal of each rank, from Iron to Silver.

This is definitely a starter town, the missions only go to silver rank, no way that is highest tier. Though those silver ranked adventures do look tough. The one in the corner even has a scar from ear to ear covering his face… I wish I could see their stats.

I heard impatiently ahead of me in a feminine tone,

"Sir! Are you ready, Sir?"

I turned to the noise and realized, It was finally my turn to register.

It was an elf woman, long auburn hair with bright green eyes in a brown leather tunic over a white robe.

I couldn't help but blush at her elvish beauty and speak anxiously,

"Yes… I'm here to register for the first time"

Suddenly above me a screen appeared,

"Starting mission complete! You arrived at your first guild hall!"

I had almost forgotten that I was in a game, I was now able to see my character's screen along with my stats and skills…or lack thereof.

The elf began to smile before asking,

"We're so happy to have you, new adventurers are always welcome to the guild."

It got quieter and quieter around me. As if everyone had stopped what they were doing and were staring at me. Getting the feel of me and my strength, like piercing daggers I could feel everyone's eyes upon me.

I asked,

"So what do I need to do to register and…"

I leaned closer out of embarrassment,

"I need to rent a weapon as well…"

The elf grabbed a large book from under the counter, with the outline of a hand on the first page.

She explained,

"Just place your hand on here and your basic information will be registered with the guild."

I started to move my hand towards the page when I remembered,

I'm a demon. What if this tells them… I have no weapon and I'm way weaker than most if not all of the people around me….

I retracted my hand slowly,

"What information does this book get from me?"

The elf looked confused but answered just the same,

"It gets your name, age, and level"
