Chapter 6 - 6

I felt the sheets again.

*Okay… this has to be my bed. My apartment. My room. Right?*

I opened my eyes.

…Nope. Not my room.

This room was bigger. Darker. Expensive. Heavy curtains blocked most of the light. And… someone was watching me. I could feel it.

A man. White hair. Crimson eyes. Red eyes. Perfectly terrifying.

This is real.

He is the Duke from the book. Did he see me when I opened my eyes? I should close them… it's dark in here…

Oh no.

I'm dead.

No. Not dead.

Wait. In the book, he didn't like killing people… he liked torture. He hadn't moved. Silent. Studying. Just standing there

Yes. Real. This is real. I'm panicking.

Maybe if I close my eyes… he'll leave. Maybe.

Pretend I'm dead. Close your eyes. He can't see me in the dark.* I squeezed them shut, counting silently. One… two… three…

"…I saw you open your eyes," he said.

I froze.

I opened my mouth. Nothing came out. I just… looked at the bed, trying to make myself smaller.

*What would my character do in this situation?*

You write Dark romance once remember. Right. I can handle this. I need to… beg.

"I-I'm sorry, my lord. Please… I… I've committed a grave sin," I stammered, my voice trembling.

He stepped closer, and the shadows stretched with him. The room felt smaller. Darker. More dangerous.

He brought a chair with him, dragging it quietly across the floor. The scraping sound echoed.

His voice deepened, colder, closer. "So… what exactly did you do?"

I froze. The only thought in my head: *he's… hot.*

"Oh. I… didn't mean to… sleep here. I… I don't know how I got here. I'm… sorry, my lord," I said, bowing low on the bed, trying to make myself invisible.

He leaned slightly closer. "I brought you," he said.

I opened my mouth. Nothing came out. *What did he bring me? What do I say now?*

"I… I… s…"

My tongue felt frozen. I didn't even know what to say. My mind scrambled, like the chapter I never finished writing—chaotic, stuck, helpless.

He tilted his head slightly. "Weird," he murmured. His crimson eyes locked onto mine. "You weren't afraid when you were insulting Vivienne."

I swallowed hard.

That bitch Vivienne. She ruined me one more time.

I'm doomed. He's going to kill me. Or worse… torture me.

Should I beg him? *Just kill me. Don't torture me.*

"S-Sir… I… I had a head injury. I wasn't thinking straight. Please… please forgive me," I stammered, shaking.

He watched me in silence. The red in his eyes seemed to deepen, sharper, more dangerous than before.

For the first time… I had no idea what he would do next.

And somehow… that thought was almost worse than death itself.
