All she could see were the bodies of greedy people scattered around her, their stillness pressing down on her like a heavy fog. Her mind drifted helplessly to a distant memory the day her father had proudly carried home that broken old almirah, smiling as if it were treasure, while she had stood beside him, too young to understand their quiet struggles.
