Chapter 1 - Grim & Brim the Gnomely Gnomes

Five Days since leaving the kingdom of Emong behind.

Grim is a gnome with a tall pointy blue hat and blue robes that hide his entire body. He is the oldest son of the king from Emong and is Brim's older brother.

Brim is, like Grim, a gnome, but unlike Grim, he wears a pointy green hat and green robes that hide his whole body.

These two brothers left their home behind in search of adventure… or at least that's what others think. But you see, the real reason they left was because the two idiots got cursed by a wandering witch after getting drunk a couple of nights ago.

Of course, it wasn't without reason, but it isn't exactly easy to explain to your father that you got cursed by a witch for trying to use her breasts as trampolines. Though I suppose, in their defense, everything can look like a pair of mountains from their perspective… although… it is a mystery as to why they chose to jump on these… "mountains".

In any case, this situation worked in their favor. How, you ask? Well, simply put, they never wanted to work. Which considering their short life spans, makes complete sense. If you lived for only a single earth year— two if lucky— would you want to just stay put behind a desk writing and stamping papers from the moment you're born till you die?

Yeah, me neither.

But going back to the two brothers, those two no longer need to worry about living only two years, for they were cursed with— take a wild guess — Immortality.

…Indeed, the sexy— I mean, HORRIBLE witch cursed them with a blessing.

Sigh… anyway, the two had been moving south of their home for almost a whole week. If it weren't for them being a third of a spiritual being they wouldn't be able to move without food for so long. At the moment the two are currently taking a break absorbing the mana in the air while standing like statues.

After another hour the two began to stir from their meditation.

"Gah! Bloody hell!" Said the gnome in a blue hat as he stretched and cracked his lower back.

"Why n' the hell are ye shoutin!" Grumbled a certain green-hatted gnome.

Glaring to his side, Grim grumbled back, "What? Can't I even shout now?"

"Not if ye doin it for no damn reason!"

"Hasn't anyone ever taught you to respect your elders? Why the bloody hell are you shouting at me for?"

"Oh! My apologies… You old bastard!"

Grim's bushy white brows furrowed, " Old bastard? You're two minutes behind me!"

"So? I'm still two minutes younger!" Laughed Brim.

As Brim was laughing at him, Grim opened his mouth to retort, but just as his mouth opened enough to see his pink tongue, he spotted something behind Brim and booked it.

As Brim continued to laugh, he abruptly stopped the moment he saw his brother book it to the nearest "forest" of tall grass. Without questioning it, he booked it too.

"CAAAWWW!!"

And at the next moment, a hawk-like bird swooped down and narrowly missed Brim.

Brim, of course, didn't see it because he didn't bother looking back. He was solely focused on catching up to his older brother and escaping whatever Grim was running from.

A couple of minutes later…

"What the hell… why didn't ye say anythin? I almost died!" Huffed Brim as he leaned on a nearby tree.

"What was I supposed to say? 'Hey look a predator behind you?' If I did that I wouldn't have had enough time to get away."

"You fucker!" Growled Brim with his bushy brows furrowed.

*Gasp* "You kiss our mother with that mouth?"

"I'll kiss you with this mouth!" Said Brim as he took a step closer towards Grim

Grim recoiled, his bushy brows shaking in disgust, "A step closer and I'll send ya flying." he said as his left hand grabbed the base of his pointy blue hat.

Lifting a bushy brow, Brim revealed a vibrant amber eye, as he too, moved to grab his own hat. "You wouldn't dare…"

And before Brim even had a chance to do anything, Grim lifted both bushy white brows, revealing amber and aquamarine eyes, and with his focus solely on his brother, he spoke a single word…

"Fus!"

BOOM!

In the next moment, Brim and the surrounding trees went flying due to the sheer force of the power the word invoked.

Grim watched as his brother went flying along with all the rubble that flew away with him.

He wouldn't die from a fall like that, despite being small, gnomes were incredibly durable!

Grim stared in the direction of where his brother went flying for a couple of extra seconds before finding a nice tree stump to climb and then sit on to wait for his brother's return.

As he waited, he took off his pointy blue hat revealing a slicked back head of white hair. He then reached inside his hat and took out… a map?

The map was the same size as him, maybe a little taller even, and yet it somehow managed to fit inside his hat. Although it does make some sense considering that his hat isn't just for show.

His hat actually is quite versatile, It works as a storage space, a megaphone, a shield, a bat, and even a wand.

But back to the map, the map was of human making, or in other words… it was just a normal map.

It showed landscapes like rivers and mountains and it had kingdoms.

There are a total of 8 kingdoms shown on the map and the closest one to the two gnome brothers is a kingdom called "Toushnie." This kingdom is south of their home and is, in fact, their destination.

The kingdom of Toushnie is a very well-known kingdom, mostly known for its large and varied populace and its alleged "master crafters." These "master crafters" obviously vary in specialties, some, masters of armours and weapons, others, master carpenters, and some others, masters at crafting relics. Of course, this is only some of the crafters that live in the kingdom of Toushnie. There is also "Adventurers".

Adventurers are people who take "quest commissions" to explore, clear certain areas, and exterminate or capture certain creatures for money. They can also be given escort commissions that usually require one to protect a certain important person or caravan, or it could be a merchant with some money that simply wants to play it safe. Regardless, this is one of the reasons the two brothers are heading south, to sign up as "Adventurers" at an "Adventurer Guild".

Now if there were some things to know about these two gnomes it would be that they love shiny things and they, despite their idiotic behaviour, are actually quite interested in history, and that they also are quite free spirited. The two were quite aware of themselves when it came to things they liked, so when they considered becoming adventurers it was pretty much an instant agreement from both.

It fueled their want to explore and if they were lucky they could happen across many shiny things. As for history-related things… well, it was practically guaranteed considering how large the world was, not to mention that not even a single third of the world had been fully explored yet.

As I mentioned previously, the two were five days into their trip south toward the Kingdom of Toushnie. Normally, this trip would take at least a month for any regular person, but as gnomes, these two were very agile, which meant that they could move quite fast. It's also thanks to them being a third of a spiritual being which allows them to move for long periods of time without getting tired and without getting hungry.

The two had been moving for five days straight without a single break. And moving at full speed, they easily crossed the halfway mark to the Kingdom of Toushnie. Given three or four more days they would arrive in no time… that is… if Brim doesn't get swallowed first…

"CAAAWWW!"

As Grim examind they way ahead on the map, a certain bird caught his attention. Instinctively looking, he almost immediately spotted his green-hatted brother gripped tightly in the talons of the foul "predator".

As he stared pale-faced at his brother, Brim was silently shaking in fear as he accepted his fate, a single tear escaping from underneath his bushy white brows…

Sigh… Did I say three days?…
