Chapter 1 - Nobody Was There

The cold snow frosted up the window seal. The little bloody hand prints stained the old Victorian rug and the scent of copper was still familiar in the air. She could hear the whispers of all the people, young and old but that particular voice was silent. Nobody picked up the silver necklace on the floor, a beautiful crow with the initials K.M on them. She wiped off the blood on her cheek and walked out the door. When she reached the street right by the house, mansion was more like it, a black cup pulled up. Nobody got in the car and went right to sleep. when she woke up she was back at HQ. It was a tall stunning green building, with Tuscan columns, tall towers, and stained glass lined with gold. It was always familiar to her, but she never truly got to see its beauty since the sky was always grey. At least that's how she saw it. Everyone saw HQ differently, it depended on the person and the death experience. Nobody stepped outside the car and walked up a grand staircase, through an enormous wooden door, straight passed the rows and rows of silver desks with busy collectors clocking in for their next job, and straight into Moral's office. She placed the necklace on the table and sat back in a stiff, long grey arm chair. "Are we good people?" Nobody asked.

"Well, we aren't bad people." Moral responded in a low raspy voice before turning his chair 90 degrees to face her. "We've been having this conversation a lot, lately Nobody. Don't you get tired. Morals long, grey, sculpted face with its striking light gray eyes pierced into her own dark ones.

"I just want to know why we do these jobs."

Moral rolled his eyes. He then reached his pointy sharp fingers into a draw and pulled out a small locket. "Nobody when I first found you, you were lying in the snow with this on you neck. I decided to give you a chance to live again and make sure accidents like yours never happen again. here take a look." Moral threw Nobody the locket. Nobody tried to pry it open but it was shut.

"I-I can't open it." Nobody said.

"I know." Moral said, enthusiastically with a smile on his face. "If you really want to know what's in the locket do this next job for me." Nobody brushed her icy white hair away from her deep brown skin and clenched the locket closer to her chest. "Will i get to know who the people in the locket are?" Moral just looked at her, a tight grin forming on his face, "Of course, dear you know i never break my promises."
