I remember that day… the day I saw my name written on the blackboard for the first time —
Except I hadn't written it.
And the most terrifying part?
Underneath it, someone had written:
"She knows the truth."
My breathing turned shallow.
The classroom was only half full. A few students were chatting at their desks. No one seemed to notice. No one except me… and the board.
My name —
Emily Carter
Written in white chalk.
It looked exactly like my handwriting.
I slowly reached out and touched the board. The chalk was fresh. That meant someone had written it just moments ago.
"Emily, what are you staring at?"
Sophie's voice came from behind me.
I quickly stepped aside. "Nothing…"
But when I looked back at the board —
My name was gone.
Only one sentence remained.
"Ask about Roll No. 23."
My hands went cold.
Roll No. 23…
Daniel Hayes.
The same Daniel who hadn't shown up to school for three days.
The same Daniel the teachers claimed had "moved to another city."
But at 2:17 AM last night, I received a message.
From an unknown number.
"They're lying."
After that, the number became unreachable.
The bell rang. Students filled the room. The teacher walked in.
The board was clean. Completely normal.
As if nothing had ever been written.
But on my desk, there was a small folded piece of paper.
I carefully opened it.
Inside, there was only one sentence:
"You were the last person who saw him."
My heartbeat pounded so loudly I thought the entire class could hear it.
Me?
The last person?
Yesterday in the library…
Daniel had been about to tell me something.
"Emily, if I don't come to school tomorrow—"
The lights had flickered.
And someone had shut the library door.
Then I remembered something else.
That day…
The library CCTV cameras weren't working.
That was the day I didn't realize something important.
I wasn't just a witness.
I was a target.
