Kento Nanami brought Itadori to the outside of the Screening Hall and spoke to him seriously.
"The 'manner of death' inside is quite bizarre. Are you sure you're mentally prepared, Itadori?"
Itadori rolled up his sleeves with high spirits and answered Kento Nanami seriously.
"Yes!"
Kento Nanami began to teach Itadori about Cursed Residue. He adjusted his Goggles and asked seriously.
"What is before your eyes now are the Cursed Residue of Cursed Energy. Can you see them?"
"..." Itadori scanned the surroundings seriously. After a while, he still found nothing and could only answer honestly, "I can't see anything at all. There's clearly nothing there, right?"
"Normally, we see curses quite naturally, but to see Cursed Residue, you need to focus more intently. This is because the traces left by using a Cursed Technique are much fainter than the presence of a Cursed Spirit," Nanami explained seriously.
Itadori followed Nanami's explanation and began to observe the ground with intense focus until he discovered the extremely faint Cursed Residue of Cursed Energy on the floor.
"You have more talent than I thought," Nanami said as he knelt down to seriously examine the Cursed Residue left by Mahito. "These traces are very special. The opponent seems to be deliberately hiding their Cursed Energy; if one doesn't look closely, they truly wouldn't notice."
"Is that a compliment? But since you knew this situation was special, you should have told me earlier, right?"
Itadori couldn't help but complain. If he hadn't performed a serious observation and only noticed the anomaly of the Cursed Residue on the second try, he wouldn't have been able to find them on his own at all.
"I won't praise, nor will I disparage; I only speak objectively," Kento Nanami said. Noticing that the traces extended into the Screening Hall, he immediately stood up and continued to mutter to himself, "To be able to do something like this, the opponent shouldn't be a simple fellow. I feel like this is going to reach the level of overtime..."
"What are we doing now?" Itadori was a bit out of sync with Nanami's wavelength, so he asked his question.
"We are going to confirm the bodies now. There should be three targets to exorcise," Kento Nanami answered Itadori as he pulled out his Cleaver.
"Huh? Confirming bodies and exorcising?" Hearing Nanami's words, Itadori became even more confused.
As Nanami walked, he gave Itadori more detailed information.
"Originally, they were indeed three corpses, identified as a curse-related incident due to the bizarre manner of death. However, while no anomalies occurred when ordinary people reported them, after the 'Window' took over and prepared to transfer the bodies, they somehow came back to life and injured them. It's suspected to be a special case that reacts to Cursed Energy, so we have to take over."
"You mean they only attack people with Cursed Energy?" Itadori gradually understood the situation. "So the culprit is actually a Cursed Spirit?"
"Perhaps. Or it could be the work of the only survivor in the Screening Hall, another young boy," Kento Nanami continued as he unlocked the Screening Hall door with a key. "The investigation into that boy's identity has been handed over to the police for now. Once I open the door, you take charge of one of them. If you can't handle it, please notify me."
"Aren't you looking down on me a bit too much..."
Under Satoru Gojo's tutelage, Itadori had now mastered 'Divergent Fist' and was quite confident in his own strength.
"It's not a matter of looking down on you or not. I am an adult, and you are..."
Just as Kento Nanami was about to deliver his classic line, the door in front of him was suddenly struck by a powerful impact. Three loud bangs occurred almost simultaneously, blasting the door open. Even Nanami was knocked back by the massive force that tore the door off its hinges.
Nanami thought to himself that things were bad.
"Itadori!" Nanami shouted immediately.
The culprits who had burst through the door were three eyeless, bloody figures whose bodies were rapidly inflating like balloons; they were nothing like the mummified corpses described in the intel.
This was Mahito's masterpiece. At the cost of compressing the souls and bodies of three people to the brink of death, he created three Transfigured Humans capable of launching a suicide attack upon detecting the presence of Cursed Energy.
This was a weakened version of a 'Multiple Soul' Transfigured Human created by Mahito, drawing inspiration from the principles of Mei Mei's Cursed Technique 'Black Bird Manipulation: Kamikaze,' using life force instead of the rejection reaction of Multiple Souls as the cost.
Although Itadori didn't understand the situation, his body moved on its own, landing a Divergent Fist on one of the Transfigured Humans rushing at him.
However, it didn't cause any substantial damage. Instead, it was like hitting a balloon; under Itadori's attack, the process of the Transfigured Human's life force draining was catalyzed, and its body instantly inflated even more terrifyingly, even pushing aside its 'companions' nearby.
By this time, Nanami had steadied himself and sprung into action. Relying on his long-honed battle instincts, he realized these three things were 'bombs'!
It was too late to escape now. Nanami swung his Cleaver, using his Ten Shadows Technique to strike the weak points of all three Transfigured Humans at once, creating critical hits and forcing them to detonate.
Simultaneously, using the momentum of the swing, Nanami shielded Itadori tightly in his arms and reinforced himself with Cursed Energy for defense.
With a loud bang, the three Transfigured Humans exploded simultaneously, the combined sound being exceptionally loud.
Hearing the explosion, Itadori also realized what had happened and shouted in terror.
"Nanami-sensei!"
However, they were just three ordinary Transfigured Humans, and since the damage was from an explosion, they naturally didn't reach the destructive power of 'Multiple Soul: Polymorphic Isomer' or 'Black Bird Manipulation: Kamikaze.'
Thus, although Nanami was injured, it was only at the level of superficial wounds.
Sensing his own injuries, Nanami breathed a sigh of relief and spoke to Itadori somewhat wearily.
"I don't hold a teaching position at Jujutsu High, so don't call me sensei..."
"But Nanamin, in this situation, why did you protect me by sacrificing yourself like that!?" Because Itadori knew about Sukuna, he felt that if he encountered a life-or-death situation, Sukuna wouldn't just stand by. If Nanami sacrificed himself to protect him, he simply wouldn't be able to accept it.
"Watch it or I'll hit you. I am an adult, and you are a child. I have an obligation to prioritize protecting you over myself," Nanami answered very seriously.
'Yoshino Junpei,' walking down the street, suddenly stopped and looked toward the cinema, smiling and muttering, "It seems the meeting gift was delivered successfully."
