Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Ash of Memory

The smell of burning parchment was the last thing Silas remembered. The screams of his fellow librarians echoed in his ears as the golden flames of the Sun Empire swallowed the ivory towers of Alexandria.

"Protect... the book..." Silas gasped, clutching the leather-bound tome to his bleeding chest. A silver sword pierced his heart, and the world went black.

[Ding!]

[Soul synchronization complete.]

[Host: Silas Thorne]

[Condition: Rebirth Successful.]

Silas snapped his eyes open. He wasn't lying in a pool of blood. Instead, he was sitting on a hard wooden stool. The air didn't smell like smoke; it smelled like old dust and ink.

"Silas! Are you sleeping again? Get back to sorting the Level 1 scrolls!" a harsh voice barked.

Silas looked up. It was Master Varun—the man who would betray the library ten years from now. Silas looked at his hands; they were small, unscarred, and shaking.

I'm back? he thought, his heart racing. Ten years before the Great Fire?

Suddenly, a translucent blue window floated in front of him:

[Universal Library System]

Current Level: 1

Mana: 10/10

Passive Skill: Eye of Discernment (Can read any ancient language)

Active Quest: The First Step. (Sort 100 scrolls to unlock your first Magic Spell).

Silas gripped the edge of the table. In his previous life, he was a nobody. But now, with the knowledge of the future and a System that could decode the secrets of the gods, he wouldn't just be a librarian.

He would be the one who writes history.
