The screams cut through the air like a blade, and we all bolted from our positions, racing toward the house with our hearts hammering against our ribs.
No more gunfire echoed from inside, which meant the old bastard was busy with something else entirely.
The thought that he might have turned his sick attention toward Bella made my blood run cold.
Hugo charged forward like a freight train, his massive frame slamming into the front door with enough force to splinter it off its hinges.
The moment we stepped inside, dread crashed over us like a tidal wave. Voices drifted up from somewhere below ground level.
We knew exactly where we needed to go.
"Basement," I called out, pointing toward the source of the disturbance.
That sick freak had dragged her down there. Heavy grunting and the sound of something thrashing violently filtered up through the floorboards.
I sprinted toward the basement entrance, finding the door already thrown wide open.
