Chapter 27 - Chapter 27

The Hufflepuff Dormitory at night.

Lynn solemnly handed Ollie a parchment list that was densely written and long enough to drag on the floor.

Ollie took the list, glanced at it in silence, and then handed it to William, who was curiously peeking over.

"Walnut heartwood, Mithril wire, Unicorn tail hair (a small amount), Augurey feathers... Hmm, these seem normal enough," William said, pushing up his glasses as he looked down, his brow gradually furrowing.

"'Fundamentals of Aerodynamics,' 'Principles of Flight Mechanics,' 'Analysis of Internal Structures of Muggle Engines,' 'Introduction to Automatic Control Theory'... Lynn, what are these books for? We're making a broomstick, not an airplane!"

Lynn spoke as if it were obvious.

"Making a broom is similar to making a plane, isn't it? Don't we have to learn these things? Although there might be other profound topics, this is all I know. The principles should be about the same; they both involve flying."

"Are you sure these... extremely scientific things can be used in the wizarding world, where things fly by magic?" William expressed deep skepticism.

"It won't hurt to try," Lynn shrugged indifferently.

"Knowledge—learning more never hurts. Who knows what sparks might fly?" For him, learning these things was just a matter of activating [Engrave] a few more times.

Ollie didn't ask further but nodded silently. That night, he wrote a letter home and sent it off with his owl along with that bizarre list...

A few days later, a corner of the dormitory was temporarily converted into "Lynn's Workshop."

"Fuck!"

"Protego!"

"Boom—!"

A muffled bang was followed by a small puff of black smoke rising from a pile of parts.

William, Edgar, and Ollie skillfully poked their three heads in from outside the door.

William stated expressionlessly, "Lynn, this is the third batch of prototypes you've blown up."

"Wait, what? That doesn't make sense!"

Lynn wiped the grease off his face and scratched his messy, bird's-nest-like hair in confusion.

According to Lynn's calculations, this compressed magic output structure should have been able to stably withstand the burst of energy. Why did it overload and disintegrate again?

He picked up several still-hot metal parts from the floor and examined them carefully, finding that the main structure was indeed fine; the problem lay in the joints and the energy buffering components.

It was purely that the instantaneous impact force exceeded the material's limits.

In plain English, it wasn't held together well enough.

Out of options, Lynn plunged back into the library and began frantically consulting books...

After flipping through One Hundred Applications of the Strong Adhesive Charm and Guide to Enhancing the Toughness of Magical Materials, Lynn's gaze settled on a recipe for a "Super Magical Adhesive."

He had a flash of inspiration and thought he could improve it to use as "structural reinforcement ribs" for key parts inside the engine.

Before long, an improved recipe combining the principles of Alchemy and Charms was ready.

But when he saw one of the main ingredients—"Premium Troll Bogeys (Refined)"—Lynn was dumbfounded.

He had been so focused on improving the recipe that he hadn't noticed such a strange ingredient had slipped in. The price of this stuff in a regular Potion ingredient shop was ridiculously high—it was practically highway robbery!

"Do I have to fleece Professor Snape again? Or... pay a 'visit' to a Troll in the Forbidden Forest?"

Lynn rubbed his chin, considering the risks and feasibility, before finally sighing. "Forget it."

He decisively made a choice—downgrade it!

First, lower the engine's power to ensure it could fly stably.

As for more powerful speed and drive, he would wait until he found the materials or struck it rich!

...After repeated adjustments, tests, and several small-scale explosions, a pleasant system notification finally sounded in the dormitory:

[Ding! Task completed! Rewards have been issued!]

On the table in the middle of the dormitory lay a broomstick that looked almost identical to the old "Cleansweep Seven" models in the school's storage room.

The color was dull, and the twigs were even somewhat uneven, making it look very deceptive.

"Don't let its humble appearance fool you," Lynn said, proudly patting the broom's handle as if introducing his own child.

"But it's definitely better than a Nimbus 2000!"

He began his performance explanation:

"First, speed. Although I lowered the power for stability, it's still a 'tiny bit' faster than the Nimbus 2000."

"Next is safety protection.

It has a built-in Sensory Array that monitors the surroundings in real time. When it predicts you're about to crash into a wall, the ground, or any other obstacle, it will automatically brake hard!"

"Of course, if you find this feature annoying, it can be turned off."

"Then there's the anti-theft system."

Lynn gestured for Edgar to come over. "Try mounting it and taking off."

Edgar excitedly straddled the broom and shouted, "Up!" but the broom didn't budge.

"See," Lynn snapped his fingers smugly.

"It supports fingerprint and facial recognition binding. Like this—"

Lynn reached out and gripped the broom's handle; the broom immediately hovered slightly and emitted a soft hum.

"If it's not bound to the person, no one can steal it!"

"That's so cool!" the three of them exclaimed simultaneously.

Lynn waved his hand, indicating he wasn't finished yet.

"And one last feature—skin switching! Although we first-years can't use our own brooms, looking cool is a lifelong pursuit! It can switch between three preset appearances, including this 'Cleansweep Seven skin.'"

After the explanation, the three of them couldn't wait to test-fly it.

"Let's go! To the Quidditch Pitch!"

---

...The Quidditch Pitch was empty. Who knows why.

Edgar, William, and Ollie looked at the thick dragon-hide protective gloves, goggles-equipped helmets, and various other protective gear Lynn handed them, their expressions complicated.

"Do we really have to wear all this?"

Edgar couldn't help but complain, feeling like he was about to go mining.

"Of course!"

Lynn's tone was unquestionable as he helped Ollie fasten his knee pads.

"I've only fully tested it once! Who knows if there are any hidden 'little surprises'? Safety first! I don't want to be expelled tomorrow for 'illegally modifying a broom and causing serious injury to a classmate'!"

Once fully geared up, Edgar was the first to mount the broom.

"Rise."

The broom rose smoothly off the ground and hovered in mid-air.

"Whirr—"

With a slight sound of breaking air, the broom instantly turned into a blurred shadow, darting rapidly through the sky above the Quidditch Pitch!

"Wahoo—!! This is awesome! This speed! This stability!!"

From the air came Edgar's irrepressible cheers, accompanied by the whistling of the wind.

Fortunately, the Quidditch Pitch was empty; if they were caught, the Professors would probably deduct Hufflepuff's house points all the way until next year!
