Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

Regardless of what day of the week it was, today was Lynn's first Transfiguration class.

Just as Lynn followed his friends into the Transfiguration classroom, the system prompt sounded in his mind.

[Ding! Mission Issued: Communicate with a cat and receive a response. Reward: Transfiguration Mastery]

[Effect: You possess extraordinary intuition and comprehension regarding the essence and rules of Transfiguration. Your efficiency in learning and applying Transfiguration is doubled.]

[Surely no one actually fails to understand Transfiguration, right? You'll definitely get it anyway—that's just how confident we are.]

Transfiguration wasn't like other subjects; it couldn't be mastered just by waving a wand, reciting spells, and practicing hard.

This course was extremely profound, requiring one's own understanding of the essence of magic and unique insights. Rote memorization and mechanical practice yielded little results unless you were truly a once-in-a-million genius.

Looking at the mission issued by the system, then looking at the serious-looking tabby cat currently perched on the podium… Heh! Guess what? Another freebie!

Lynn felt a secret joy in his heart. He immediately stepped forward, flashed what he thought was his most friendly smile at the tabby cat, and whispered, "Hello?"

The tabby cat raised its head, its amber eyes glancing at him, and it actually responded, though it was just a: "Meow~ (Hello.)"

[Ding! Mission complete! Reward: 'Transfiguration Mastery' has been distributed!]

A refreshing wave of enlightenment regarding the transformation of matter and the precise control of magic instantly flooded Lynn's mind, making everything clear.

But… why did that cat's meow sound a bit familiar? Like he'd heard it somewhere before?

A trace of doubt rose in Lynn's heart, but it was quickly diluted by the joy of acquiring a new talent.

He saw that few people had arrived in the classroom yet, and the tabby cat was still elegantly perched on the podium, licking its paws. A thought popped into his head:

It seems… I could pet the cat for a bit longer? Professor McGonagall hasn't arrived yet; this is a rare opportunity!

With a "mischievous" smile on his face, he reached out his "evil hand" toward the tabby cat…

Just as his fingertips were about to touch that incredibly smooth-looking fur—

A sudden sense of crisis made his hair stand on end!

???

Lynn's hand froze in mid-air.

This cat… can't be petted? Is there a problem? (O∆O)

He looked at the tabby cat, and the cat happened to look up as well.

Lynn swallowed hard. Deciding that less trouble was better than more, he immediately withdrew his hand and acted as if nothing had happened.

He quickly pulled the curiously staring Edgar, William, and Ollie along, finding a spot in the middle of the classroom to sit down briskly.

The class bell rang right on time.

The moment the bell stopped, the tabby cat on the podium leaped forward. In the process of landing, its body rapidly stretched and changed.

Fur receded, limbs extended, and in an instant, it transformed into a Witch wearing emerald-green robes, with a serious expression and a meticulously styled bun!

It was none other than the Dean of Gryffindor, the Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts, a master of Transfiguration in the wizarding world, and their Transfiguration Professor—Minerva McGonagall!

"!!!" (╯°□°)╯

Sitting below, Lynn was so startled he nearly jumped out of his chair, his heart pounding wildly.

His eyes widened, and he screamed inwardly: I knew that voice sounded familiar! It was Professor McGonagall! Thank goodness! Thank goodness I didn't stupidly try to pet her just now! Otherwise, I'd probably have points deducted for "profaning a Professor" until I had to repeat a grade!

He patted his chest in relief, full of gratitude for his timely retreat.

After Professor McGonagall stood still, her gaze swept across the class, lingering for half a second on Lynn in particular before she spoke: "Today is the first class I am giving you. I am pleased that no one is late."

Her voice was as clear and authoritative as ever.

"Transfiguration is some of the most complex and dangerous magic you will learn at Hogwarts. Anyone messing around in my class will leave and not come back. You have been warned…"

Like other Professors, she began with theoretical instruction, explaining the basic principles of Transfiguration, essential gestures, and the subtle differences in spell pronunciation.

Professor McGonagall's theoretical explanations were clear and rigorous. Lynn found that the knowledge seemed to naturally engrave itself into his mind, and he understood it with exceptional clarity.

[Transfiguration Mastery] had already begun to take effect.

"Next," the theoretical explanation concluded, and with a wave of Professor McGonagall's wand, a pile of matches flew precisely onto each student's desk, "I am giving each of you a match. What you must do is attempt to turn it into a needle."

She paused and added, her tone carrying a trace of undetectable helplessness: "I hope you won't cause any explosions."

When she said this, she was clearly thinking of her own House's "demolitions genius," Seamus Finnigan.

That boy was practically a "miracle"; any spell he used seemed to end in a small explosion.

This was even the case when brewing relatively stable potions.

Lynn took a deep breath, picked up his unremarkable match, and placed it on the desk.

"Vera Verto!"

Lynn waved his wand.

The match on the desk seemed to be enveloped by an invisible force. It rapidly lengthened and thinned at a speed visible to the naked eye, the tip becoming sharp, and the wooden texture replaced by a metallic luster.

In almost the blink of an eye, a silver-shining, finely crafted sewing needle lay quietly there, even the eye of the needle clearly visible!

"Oh!" Professor McGonagall's patrolling gaze was instantly drawn over. She walked quickly to Lynn's desk, picked up the silver needle to examine it closely, her face showing a rare, undisguised look of surprise and approval.

"What am I seeing?" Her voice carried a hint of subtle excitement. "Mr. Lynn has completed an extremely excellent transformation! Not just the shape, but the material has been completely changed as well! Ten points to Hufflepuff!"

Professor McGonagall was delighted to have discovered a Transfiguration genius.

A pity he isn't a Gryffindor student, she thought to herself.

A small gasp of amazement rippled through the classroom. The Hufflepuffs felt a sense of shared pride, and Edgar even secretly gave Lynn a thumbs-up.

Lynn himself was a bit dazed. He hadn't expected the effect of the [Transfiguration Mastery] talent to be so immediate.

He had tried Transfiguration a few times during the holidays, but the process was always stumbling; often the matchstick would twist for a long time only to become slightly pointed, or get stuck in an awkward state of being half-wood and half-metal. It had never been as smooth as today.

System-produced goods are definitely high quality! Lynn rejoiced in his heart.
