Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: *Beneath the Surface*

**Part 1: A Disruptive Encounter**

Luna sat at her desk early the next morning, eyes glued to her phone, contemplating whether the recent messages were a joke or something far more sinister. Her fingers hovered over the screen, debating whether to reply or to ignore.

Before she could decide, her office door swung open. Ethan Lin stepped inside, his expression unreadable.

"Come with me," he said abruptly, voice low.

Luna blinked in surprise. "What? Where?"

Ethan just gestured toward the corridor with a slight tilt of his head. Without question, she grabbed her bag and followed him, her heart pounding.

They moved through the quiet corridors of Carter Industries, passing several employees engrossed in their work. Ethan stopped at a secure door, swiped his access card, and motioned for her to step inside.

The room was small, filled with monitors and files. Ethan pointed to a seat behind a desk.

"I've seen your messages," Ethan started, voice serious. "Whoever is sending those is dangerous. You need to be careful."

Luna looked at him sharply. "You knew about this?"

He nodded slowly. "I've been trying to find out who's behind it. But it's risky—someone's watching the company, and maybe even you."

She shivered. "Why me?"

Ethan hesitated. "Because you're asking questions. That's dangerous."

The ominous tone in his voice made her almost regret digging deeper.

**Part 2: Secrets from the Past**

After their tense conversation, Ethan handed Luna a flash drive. "This contains internal documents—proof of unauthorized dealings, meetings, and perhaps even some black ops. But be warned—you might not like what you find."

Luna hesitated, then took the drive. "Why are you giving this to me?"

"Because you're new here, and I think you're different from the others. Someone needs to see the truth."

That evening, Luna hurried home, eager but cautious. She plugged in the flash drive and sifted through confidential files. Hidden within the layers of corporate data, she found references to covert meetings—coded language, secret locations, and names.

One document drew her attention: an encrypted transcript from a clandestine meeting. The name "Carter" appeared several times, but so did a mysterious figure named "The Shadow."

Her heart skipped a beat. Was Carter involved in something illegal? Or was "The Shadow" an outsider trying to destabilize the company?

Suddenly, her screen flickered, and a shadowed figure appeared in the video feed—an unknown person with a hooded face, speaking in hushed tones.

"The time has come," the figure whispered. "The truth will surface. Be ready."

Her breath caught. This was no longer just corporate espionage; it felt personal.

**Part 3: Shadows in the Night**

Later that night, with her apartment dimly lit, Luna sat near her window, staring into the darkness beyond. Her mind raced as she tried to connect the dots.

A sudden tap on the window startled her. She froze, eyes wide with alarm.

Peering out cautiously, she saw nothing at first. Just shadows dancing faintly in the wind.

Then she noticed it—a small, folded piece of paper taped to her windowpane.

Her hands trembled as she carefully peeled it off and unfolded it. The message read:

**"They're watching. Trust no one."**

Luna's pulse thundered. Her instincts screamed that her every move was being monitored. But who? And why?

A sudden noise made her jump—sounds of footsteps outside her apartment building.

She hurried to unlock her door, peering into the hallway. It was empty. But the feeling of being hunted lingered.

Her phone buzzed again. This time, a new message:

**"The past is never truly buried. Watch out for Leo."**

Luna's stomach clenched. Leo, her mysterious boss, who always seemed distant but capable of surprising her. Was he involved in any of this?

Or was he simply another puppet in a larger game?

Unable to sleep, she looked again at the cryptic messages and the shadowy video clip. Behind every revelation lurked a deeper mystery, and now she was entangled in it.

---

Suddenly, her phone camera lit up with a live feed—someone was recording her from outside her window. The feed cut out instantly, but the damage was done.

Her heart hammered in her chest. Was her attacker still out there? Or was this just the beginning of something much bigger?

Something cold brushed her cheek—a gust of wind, or perhaps... a hand?

She turned quickly, needing to see who was inside her apartment, but the room was emptier than before.

And in that silence, she realized: she wasn't alone. Someone had been inside her apartment—and they might still be nearby.
