Fahad: A poor but self-respecting young man.
Amina: Fahad's mother, hardworking and patient.

Riverbank, Early Morning
(Light fog. The distant sound of the Azan slowly fades. The river is calm. Fahad stands silently, looking at the water.)
Fahad (to himself):
My life is just like this river… it overflows in the rainy season and dries up in winter. But poverty never dries up.
(Amina enters, holding a broken pitcher.)
Amina:
Fahad, what are you doing here so early in the morning?
Fahad:
I was looking at the river, Ma. It feels like it's the only one that listens to me.
Amina (smiling softly):
The river doesn't listen, my son. People do… if they have the heart to listen. Come on, you'll be late for work.
(They slowly walk away.)
Village Dirt Road, Morning
(Fahad is carrying a load. Kader is standing nearby.)
Kader:
Hey Fahad! You'll work at the market today, right?
Fahad:
If there's work, I will, Uncle. If not—
Kader (interrupting):
If not what? Will you even manage a meal?
(Kader laughs and walks away. Fahad's eyes reflect humiliation and silent pride.)
Bus Stand, Afternoon
(A bus stops. Rimi gets down and looks around with curiosity.)
Rimi (to herself):
So this is my village… my roots. I've come back after so long.
(Fahad watches her from a distance. A quiet wonder fills his eyes.)
's House, Evening
(A mud house. A dim oil lamp flickers.)
Amina:
How was your day?
Fahad:
The same as always, Ma. But today I saw a girl… seems like she's from the city.
Amina (smiling knowingly):
And what happens when a girl comes?
Fahad:
Nothing. I just wondered… can our story ever change?
(Amina remains silent, looking at him. Outside, the soft sound of the flowing river. The light slowly fades.)
