Chapter 30 - Grip!

Caspian's POV

I ran blind. Because my wolf could not think of anything better.

And also because the desert didn't judge. Or whisper.Or bite.

It didn't look at me with pity or suspicion.

It just stretched endlessly under the bleeding sunrise, like a cushion under my paws. The dunes carved by wind, and sand sliced against my fur as I ran faster and faster.

I ran harder. My muscles burnt. My lungs dragged in hot, dry air.

If I could run fast enough, maybe the thoughts wouldn't catch up.

Behind me, I heard Jax and Riven. They have been following me for awhile now. Persistent bastards.

But they knew my mood. This fire was not to be played with so they were keeping their distance.

But my wolf would not listen. My mind was so distorted even that amount of proximity was pissing me off.

I pushed harder, claws digging deep into the sand. My canine body cut down the slope of a dune and launched off the next.

The wind roared in my ears. For a second, I almost felt free.
