Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Malfoy's voice

Malfoy's feelings toward Harry were extremely complicated. Since his birth, Harry had altered the fates of many people, including Malfoy's father and even his own. From a young age, Malfoy constantly heard Harry's name, and throughout his childhood he was always compared to Harry.

Everything he did seemed inferior to the name Harry Potter. But Malfoy didn't feel jealousy. He had longed to meet this boy who had survived disaster. Deep down, he knew that he and Harry would become the best of friends.

Malfoy had already envisioned Harry's future: he should join Slytherin alongside him. They would help each other, share the same siblings, and together control the house, forging legendary achievements.

Privately, people whispered that the Dark Lord would soon return, and Malfoy believed it too—but he was confident that he and Harry would defeat him.

"How dare that Potter bastard treat me like this? He dares to refuse my friendship, betray my trust, trample on the dignity of Malfoy de Coe," Malfoy fumed. His long-held fantasies about Harry were shattered. How much he had once admired Harry—and now, how deeply he hated him.

"I will drive those blasted Weasleys and Potter out of this school. No one can stop me," Malfoy thought, hesitating only briefly. "Unless Harry wakes up crying his eyes out and begs me, only then would I consider befriending him again."

Lately, Malfoy had been looking for opportunities to get Ron expelled, or at least drastically reduce Gryffindor's points. He even secretly followed Harry and Ron—a difficult task indeed.

Ever since Harry's group met George, their strength had grown rapidly, and in confrontations with Harry, Malfoy found himself at a disadvantage.

He felt he needed help; Crabbe and Goyle were far too dull-witted, and sometimes he didn't even want their assistance. While the Weasleys were annoying, they were still smarter than Crabbe and Goyle.

He despised "Mudbloods," yet he had to admit that Hermione was clever.

Malfoy fought alone, morale low. Harry had Hermione and the Weasleys to help, while he could only rely on the two idiots, Crabbe and Goyle.

Today, Malfoy felt the opportunity he had long awaited had finally arrived.

He secretly watched Harry and his two friends, who were whispering among themselves. Lately, they had been sneaking off to Hagrid's hut, which worried him greatly.

Although Harry and the others seemed alert and spoke quietly, their caution worked against them—he wasn't easily hidden from.

The bell rang, and the trio dropped their shovels and dashed off. Malfoy decided to follow them quietly.

He watched as Harry, Ron, and Hermione, led by Hagrid, happily entered the hut and mysteriously closed the door behind them. Malfoy felt his chance had come.

He tiptoed to the window, peered inside, and saw Harry and the others gathered around a table. On it was a large, dark egg, trembling continuously with cracks forming as if something were about to burst forth.

Soon, the eggshell split open, and a small dragon emerged.

"They hid a dragon egg—and hatched it!" Malfoy's eyes widened in disbelief.

The little creature shook itself on the table, flapping its wings with boundless energy. Its orange eyes, large snout, and spiked wings contrasted against its slender black body, making it look fierce. Sparks even flew from its nostrils when it sneezed.

"This is a dragon!" Malfoy straightened instinctively, leaning forward to get a better view.

Suddenly, he saw Hagrid leap toward him. Malfoy jumped up, turned, and ran back to the castle as fast as he could.

Only when he reached the familiar corridors and faces of Hogwarts did his heart begin to calm, and he started reviewing what had just happened.

"Hagrid has a dragon egg in the hut—and it hatched," Malfoy thought, considering how this astonishing discovery involved Harry and his friends. He decided the best course of action was to get them expelled.

"Raising dragons is illegal. The decree banning dragon-keeping was issued in 1709. The evidence is clear. They will be arrested and expelled," Malfoy decided, heading toward the headmaster's office—but he paused.

"Dumbledore is behind Hagrid. Hagrid was expelled once, but Dumbledore let him stay. I can't confront Dumbledore directly."

Malfoy considered turning to Professor Snape. He wouldn't let this Gryffindor troublemaker off easily—but then he hesitated again. "If I get caught, Hagrid… they are determined to hide this dragon. It's small and easy to conceal," he reasoned.

This was Hagrid's current residence. If he went there, he wouldn't find it, and they would fight back.

Malfoy hesitated, realizing he had discovered a major secret—but he needed to carefully consider how to use it.

"Forget it—wait. That dragon is growing fast. Soon it won't be so easy to hide. Once the evidence is solid, we can expel them," he thought with satisfaction. "Besides, dragons have deadly teeth."

"Focus, keep attention on your breathing, feel your magic. Don't control it—guide it, experience it like your breath. Ten more times," George said calmly as he approached. "Go," he added.

"Ah!" After training, Ron flopped onto the floor without caring about his image. Harry staggered to a chair and slowly sat down. Only Hermione retained enough stamina to maintain steady breathing.

As a student, Hermione's progress always pleased the professors, though occasionally it frustrated them—these students were simply too clever.

Harry excelled in Defense Against the Dark Arts. More accurately, having a unique connection to Voldemort since childhood, he had an extraordinary talent to wield and counter dark magic.

By contrast, Ron's performance was average, but growing up with five strong siblings in a long-suppressive environment had forged his resilience. During the trio's training, he sometimes struggled, yet he never fell behind, unwilling to drag the others down.
