Chapter 46 - : A Taste of Closeness

The kitchen remained silent for a few seconds after Lyria's dare.

Aerion still stood there… holding the small piece of food in his hand.

Four goddesses watched him.

Waiting.

The atmosphere had shifted.

It wasn't just playful anymore.

It was… something deeper.

Something warmer.

Something dangerous.

Aerion let out a slow breath.

"…Alright."

His eyes moved across them.

Lyria sat on the counter, smiling like she had already won.

Seraphyna stood calmly, but her gaze was focused.

Aelira leaned quietly against the wall, her expression unreadable—but her eyes were softer than before.

Nythera simply watched.

Amused.

Curious.

Calculating.

Aerion swallowed lightly.

"…I really have to choose, huh."

Lyria laughed.

"No escaping."

He took a step forward.

Then another.

The soft sound of his footsteps echoed faintly in the golden-lit kitchen.

And then—

He stopped.

Right in front of Aelira.

For a moment…

No one spoke.

Aelira's silver eyes met his.

There was a flicker of surprise there.

"…You chose me."

Her voice was calm.

But quieter than usual.

Aerion gave a small smile.

"…Yeah."

Behind them—

Lyria froze for a second.

"…Wait, what?"

Nythera's lips curved slightly.

Seraphyna remained silent.

Observing.

Aelira slowly straightened.

Her posture remained elegant, composed.

But there was something different now.

Something softer.

She stepped closer.

Close enough that the distance between them almost disappeared.

"…Then I accept."

Her voice lowered slightly.

Aerion lifted his hand slowly.

The small piece of food still between his fingers.

For a moment—

He hesitated.

Not because of fear.

But because of how close she was.

Aelira noticed.

And instead of stepping back—

She leaned just a little closer.

Her eyes never leaving his.

"…Are you hesitating, Aerion?"

A faint challenge.

A faint tease.

Aerion exhaled softly.

"…Not anymore."

And then—

He gently brought the food closer to her lips.

The world seemed to pause.

Lyria leaned forward slightly, watching intensely.

Nythera's eyes glowed faintly with interest.

Seraphyna's gaze sharpened.

Aelira's lips parted slightly.

And then—

She took the bite.

Slowly.

Carefully.

Her fingers lightly brushed against his wrist as she did.

A small, almost accidental touch.

But it sent a quiet spark through the air.

Aerion froze for a second.

Aelira chewed softly.

Then swallowed.

And for a brief moment—

Her expression softened completely.

"…It tastes even better this way."

Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Lyria immediately jumped down from the counter.

"HEY."

She crossed her arms.

"That's cheating."

Aerion blinked.

"…What?"

Lyria pointed at Aelira.

"She enjoyed that way too much."

Aelira turned her head slightly toward her.

A faint smile appearing.

"I simply followed the rules of the dare."

Nythera laughed softly.

"Oh, I like this."

Seraphyna spoke calmly.

"The interaction was… intimate."

Aerion scratched his head awkwardly.

"…You think?"

Lyria stepped closer to him.

Too close.

"Alright then."

Her tone shifted slightly.

Playful.

But with a hint of challenge.

"My turn."

Aerion sighed.

"…Of course."

She grabbed another piece of food from the plate.

Then held it up between her fingers.

"Now I dare you…"

She leaned closer.

"…to feed me too."

Aerion blinked.

"…That wasn't part of the original dare."

Lyria smiled.

"I know."

Nythera smirked.

"Additional conditions."

Aelira folded her arms.

"…Interesting."

Seraphyna watched silently.

Aerion groaned.

"…Fine."

He took the food from her hand.

Then raised it slowly.

Lyria stepped closer without hesitation.

Unlike Aelira—

She didn't wait.

She leaned in quickly.

Her lips brushing slightly against his fingers as she took the bite.

Deliberate.

Teasing.

Her eyes locked onto his the entire time.

Aerion froze again.

"…You did that on purpose."

Lyria grinned.

"Obviously."

Nythera clapped softly.

"This is getting entertaining."

Seraphyna stepped forward slightly now.

Her expression calm.

But her presence… closer.

"…Is the activity complete?"

Aerion nodded.

"…Yeah."

Aelira looked around the group.

"The game has reached its conclusion."

Nythera tilted her head.

"Already?"

Aelira nodded.

"For now."

Lyria stretched again.

"Hmm…"

She looked at Aerion.

"…Not bad, human."

Aerion smirked.

"I'll take that as a compliment."

Seraphyna spoke quietly.

"It was… enjoyable."

Nythera added softly—

"Very."

For a moment—

Silence settled in the kitchen.

But it wasn't awkward.

It was warm.

Comfortable.

Aelira stepped closer again.

This time without hesitation.

"…You did well."

Aerion looked at her.

"…Thanks."

Their eyes met again.

And for a brief moment—

Everything else faded.

Then—

Lyria suddenly wrapped an arm around Aerion's shoulder.

"Alright, enough of that."

She pulled him slightly toward her.

"Don't get too comfortable."

Aerion laughed.

"Too late."

Nythera watched them quietly.

A faint smile playing on her lips.

Seraphyna turned slightly toward the window.

The stars outside had returned to normal.

The shadow—

Still hidden.

Still watching.

But no longer pressing.

For now.

Later that night…

The group had dispersed slightly.

The game had ended.

But its effects remained.

In lingering glances.

In quiet touches.

In unspoken tension.

Nythera stood alone on the balcony.

The cool night air moved gently around her.

Her violet eyes gazed into the endless sky.

"…Interesting."

Her voice was soft.

Thoughtful.

Behind that calm expression—

Her mind was moving.

Analyzing.

Planning.

"That human…"

A faint smile appeared.

"…is far more fascinating than I expected."

She folded her arms slowly.

"…Perhaps…"

Her gaze shifted slightly.

Toward a distant, unseen part of the celestial realm.

"…it is time."

A pause.

Then—

A quiet whisper.

"I should introduce him to her."

Her eyes glowed faintly.

"…She has likely already been watching."

A small, amused breath escaped her lips.

"But…"

Her tone softened slightly.

"She does not like crowds."

A faint chuckle.

"…Still the same."

Nythera turned back toward the sky.

"…Let's see how this unfolds."

And somewhere far beyond the visible stars—

Something unseen stirred silently.

Not the shadow.

Not the watcher.

But someone else.

Someone quiet.

Someone hidden.

Someone who had already begun to take interest…

In the human named Aerion.
