Yuna and Yuri met in a hospital where hope was measured in months.
Yuna had six months to live.
Yuri had one year.
They learned the truth on different days, from different doctors, yet somehow the weight felt shared. When they finally spoke about it, there were no dramatic tears just a long silence where both understood that time was already slipping through their fingers.
First Month
They were strangers learning each other's names.
Yuna smiled easily, as if she was trying to make the world lighter before she left it. Yuri was quieter, watching more than speaking. They sat together during visiting hours, sharing stories about nothing important favorite colors, childhood memories, the food they missed.
It was awkward. And sweet.
Yuna: I had no money to get a ride of my disease but my dad work so hard to make money and he did finally make for me, I was so happy that finally I'm getting surgery of my disease but they said I'm too late for this surgery I'll die in six months" she never stop smiling Yuri noticed that how she kept smiling when she's going to die soon.
Second Month
They began waiting for each other.
Yuri saved the seat by the window. Yuna brought her sketchbook and drew whatever made her feel alive flowers from the garden, clouds, Yuri when he wasn't looking. They laughed at small things, like spilled tea or badly told jokes.
Love hadn't arrived yet.
But comfort had.
Yuri: "the doctors said I can make it, I can be better but I never quit smoking and they got me here.... I'll die in 1 year" Yuna shocked she feels sad but she smiles she says "I'm jealous that you will live longer than me" she chuckles but he didn't Yuna asked him "are you upset? Why?" *He says* "I don't want to live longer than you... I can't imagine my 6 months without you I wish we both die together" she just smiled.
Third Month
One night, Yuna whispered, "We don't have much time"
Yuri nodded. "But we have this."
That month, they held hands for the first time. Not desperately just gently, like a promise to stay present. They shared dreams they knew would never come true, yet spoke of them anyway, because imagining together felt like living. Yuri "I would love to see you again in my next life" Yuna says "what If I was a moon in another life?" Yuri silent
Fourth Month
Yuna started growing weaker.
Some days she smiled through the pain. Some days she couldn't get out of bed. Yuri stayed anyway reading to her, describing the sky, reminding her she wasn't alone. He was terrified of losing her, but more afraid of wasting even a single moment.
One evening, she said softly,
"I wish the day I die is the most peaceful beautiful day"
Yuri's voice broke.
"Yes it will be"
Fifth Month
They loved quietly.
No big confessions. No promises of forever. Just shared sunsets, whispered conversations, and fingers intertwined. Yuna wrote notes and hid them in Yuri's jacket pockets. Yuri memorized her laugh, her voice, the way she said his name like it mattered.
They both knew the end was close.
They chose not to run from it.
Sixth Month
Yuna's time ended.
She passed peacefully, with Yuri holding her hand and telling her how beautiful the world was that day. Her last smile was small but real. Yuri with tears and smile kept telling her about the day she's dying "I know it's your last day but this day is so beautiful the birds are flying the flowers are blooming the weather is unreal and peaceful" she smiles at him and she slowly close her eyes and never wake up
After she was gone, the hospital felt unbearable.
Yuri still had six months left.
He spent them writing.
He wrote about the first time she laughed.
About her sketches.
About the way six months with her felt fuller than a lifetime without love.
Every page was a memory. Every word, a goodbye.
When Yuri's time finally came, his notebook rested beside him, filled to the last page. He write on his last page of his dairy "do you remember Yuna you asked me what if you was a moon in another life, I promise to be your star in another life to always shine with you to always stand next to you where no one can separate us not even universe"
They didn't survive.
But their love did.
In six borrowed months, Yuna and Yuri lived more deeply than many do in decades and in the end, that was enough.
