Chapter 1 - PROOF OF YOUR EXISTENCE

"Proof of Your Existence"

The day of Halabran was not a festival to celebrate the day of death, but rather the day which life has moved on to begin their new journey into the afterlife.

Norella: [What is the reason for you to be up here?]

Adonis: […Nothing big really, when I'm bored I like staring at the moon]

Adonis: [It's kinda cathartic in a way]

The boy's whom was in the noir suit and tie, was Adonis. He sat down next to the girl whose legs held tightly to her chest with a sad expression on his face.

Adonis: [It feels good you know. The night]

Adonis: [The cold air that overcomes you along with the grief. It's calming]

Norella: [What are you talking about?]

Adonis: [I used to come out around midnight and just looked up at the dark clouds…the moon. It always looked beautiful and it amazes me how I'm always feel as if I never saw it before]

Adonis: [Only for a moment…put my mind at ease]

Adonis: [Moving on, why do you come up here? It's the Yorlin festival. Shouldn't you…I don't know, be celebrating with everyone?]

Norella: […Were you ease dropping on me and Old Iji]

Adonis: [More like I heard it when I tried not too]

Norella: [So why are you up here? To throw me a pity party, or give me pointless "advice"?]

Adonis: […Neither, just something I have to get off of my chest]

Norella: [You're better off leaving things unsaid. I do not wanna hear a lecture from you, nor do I require your unwanted sympathy]

Adonis let out a deep breath of air. Instead of frustration he wanted to meet the girl with ease and understanding. The boy couldn't understand how it felt to lose a parent as he has never hslad one.

Norella: [When people die that's it. There is no "afterlife". When you die that's the end of the line]

Norella: [People leave when you when you least expect it…with out a single "goodbye"]

Norella: [Everyone is celebrating this…"day of death" as if it's such a glorious event]

Norella: [What type of shit is that…?]

As Adonis walked towards the edge of the roof, overlooking all below. They were all cheering and dancing as if they've heard fantastic news. It seemed they were having fun. "Death" is no such thing to celebrate. To a normal person it would only bring sorrow to remember someone they've loved deeply are no longer with them. What kind of person would celebrate "death"?

Adonis: [….Look]

Adonis unbuttoned his suit, takes off his tie, and sat a few feet from the raven haired girl on the ledge staring off into the distance that was covered with lanterns during this special night. They were quite high up. About eight stories to be exact.

Adonis: [I don't know what you're thinking on a personal level. Nor will I pretend to. The same goes for you]

Adonis: [But I do know that if I continue to remember you. I know you were alive, that you existed]

Adonis: [So, if you did die, it'd probably make me sad]

Norella: [You'd be depressed over a person you just met a week ago and know absolutely nothing-?]

Adonis: [Yes]

Adonis: [Maybe I get too attached to people easily? Maybe I'm just blind to it all to see? But that's just who I am]

Norella is reached into her breast pocket and pulled out a raven tarot card.

Norella: [Then here, I think this dumb card suits you better]

Adonis: [I guess so]

Norella: [….]

With her head down the girl had nothing to say. Adonis words must have left an impression on her soul?

Norella: [You should go inside now or else you'll get sick]

Adonis: [Nah, I'll be fine]

Adonis: [Plus the full moon looks beautiful tonight. It's rare to see 'em nowadays]

Norella didn't know what to do. Surely others thought of her enough to care if she died. The thought alone left a hole in her heart. Their efforts didn't work how they intended them to but nonetheless it worked. Maybe those words were enough to put her mind at ease.

Yes, that has to be it. To come into someone's life and leave an impression that ginormous with nothing more than small gestures of kindness throughout their life would undoubtedly shock their entire being to the core.

This was the conclusion Norella wasn't looking for, nor did she try to, but her eyes were now open to that possibility.

Norella: [….You might be right]

A pleasant smile presented itself upon the boy's face

Adonis: [Maybe, we'll never truly know…]

Adonis lifted himself off the ledge and jumped down to the ground

Adonis: [Unless we try]

Sticking out his right hand towards a raven haired girl on the ledge that looked at him with sadness looming over her face. Hesitation presented itself, yet so did the chance for something new. A first step, a chance to change. A first step of many.

Adonis: […Good choice]

Her hands were warmer than before
