Chapter 19 - Chapter Nineteen, Weakness

The next morning Alex woke up with a new vigor. As he awoke he stretched out his arms before trying to hold back a yawn.

While the sun had just risen above the surrounding mountains, which had seemed to be as lively as Alex that morning.

Not just the forestry covering the far mountains, but instead everywhere. Everyone seemed to be as invigorated as Alex.

Although not coincidence, it was more of Alex's outlook on the world. With what he had done last night changing his perspective.

While Alex had also come to a tough decision, yet he knew it was the right one. With Alex tailing the spider all of the previous night he realized things.

Yet at the moment Alex didn't care, as the lack of fighting in his dream left his body and mind with an overwhelming amount of energy.

Although this energy was just motivation, and not real energy. This was the reason Alex's stomach was roaring like a thunder cloud.

Jeez I'm starving.

Alex quickly got out of bed with a handful of clothes in his hands. As he traveled to the bathroom before quickly changing.

Alex knew hygiene would be extremely important in their primitive situation. He walked back to his seat where he dropped off his dirty clothes.

Except he didn't stop to sit down and rest instead Alex continued forward. He arrived at the front of the plane where an appetizing breakfast awaited him.

A man in about his fifties handed Alex a plate, stacked full with meat and some edible plants the survivors had found.

A grin spread across Alex's face, while drool even started collecting in his mouth. Alex quickly came to his senses before facing towards the man.

"Thank you sir!"

"No problem kiddo, just eat up so you can hunt later today."

The man gave Alex a smile before watching Alex walk away to his nearby seat. While Alex was extremely comforted.

This was because he had not been hassled or even noticed any grouchy or angry people. Instead everyone was kind to him.

This had greatly relieved Alex, and yet he still knew that there were people like that. Even if he hadn't noticed them directly he just felt it.

Yet he was happy anyway, as he had not been bothered by such people. As Alex devoured his food, fooling his insatiable hunger.

Before quickly finishing the meal and getting up. Alex needed to get water. Luckily the survivors had found a clean water source.

The water was still filled with bacteria though, so a huge water tank was connected to another. Although both were makeshift and made from large ruins.

Theses tanks were connected by a pipe, while inside the pipe their were clothes and an ever burning metal stick within it.

This metal rod was used to boil and kill the bacteria that was potentially dangerous to the survivors.

While the clothes served to separate the minerals and water. This all led to the contaminated fresh water being turned into a drinkable delight.

With a separate smaller group of survivors heading toward the water source and collecting it while the hunters travelled in the opposite direction.

Alex turned a wooden knob with his personal water bottle under the tube. Once the tube turned a load of water was released into his bottle.

Once the water neared the top of the bottle Alex turned the knob back. As he watched the stream get tinier and tinier, until it was just a few droplets.

Alex grabbed the lid of his bottle and twisted it on tight. Making sure it wouldn't leak in any position.

Finally Alex headed back to seat and rested, occasionally taking a sip of water. Blankly staring outside, time passed quickly around Alex.

Out of habit Alex went and grabbed his headphones putting them over his head. Then he realized it was futile.

Ha, I forgot about what happened.

Alex had forgotten that the devices had stopped working. As he took the headphones off his head and placed them back into his bag.

In boredom Alex laid his head back to rest, looking up at the white ceiling before shutting his eyes.

Lyra on the other hand was leveling up ruins with her mutated crystals. By now the whole group of hunters on the plane knew how to upgrade ruins.

Yet Lyra had much more crystals than anybody else. Stuck in a constant loop of colliding two ruins together.

Once she had finished and was out of crystals she got up. Having already finished her food she walked to the front of the plane.

Then she walked right out the broken exit door of the plane, unsummoning her ruins and summoning them back.

She was still the only one who could open the doors that technically belonged to her. Yet even she knew there were other ways off the plane.

Lyra walked over to a nearby branch and sat down.

Wow what a beautiful view.

Fascinated by the grand view of the unexplored and new continent Lyra stared into the distance, as she took everything in.

Noticing the huge monstrous birds that flew around the sky, corrupting the air around them. Or even the small stampedes of bugs and animals on the forest floor.

Lyra was truly infatuated with the beautiful landscape paired with its completely opposite and wretched inhabitants.

To Lyra it was beautiful, as the conflicting sides battled against each other. Yet as she watched her surroundings she grew more and more bored.

Eventually Lyra walked back into the plane and walked to her seat. Lyra still needed to plan for many things.

One of those was to find a way to either prove Alex was scheming or truly was an idiot. Then she needed to find a way to defeat the vile spider inhabiting her dreams while preying on her ruins.

As she began thinking a giant tremor was sent through the plane. This tremor was unlike any they had felt before.

With the previous ones either coming from the ground or air. Yet this time it seemed the tremor came from the trees of the plane.

Awoken from his slumber Alex quickly ran to the exit door. Before quickly disassembling Lyra's makeshift door.

Dammit who woke me!

He jumped out onto the tree supporting the plane and looked for the cause. Before his eyes landed on a huge spectacle of a bear.

The bear was twice the size of any normal bear, with huge lumps surrounding its body. While its eyes were filled with pure malice.

As the bear continued to direct that malice toward the tree that supported the plane. Each punch that slammed into the tree shook the plane.

While for a second Alex could've sworn he had seen the plan briefly slip from the trees grasps. Yet to his surprise the tree stayed.

Alex realized he needed to quickly distract the bear. If this was not done in time Alex knew for a fact that the plane would end up broken on the forest floor, unable to serve as a shelter.

Except Alex didn't just want to distract the colossal bear, but instead he wanted to slay the giant abomination.

As he started to summon his lost katana, before swiftly climbing down the tree. As Alex jumped down to a nearby branch the tree shook again.

This shockwave caused the branch to move just out of Alex's reach. He then started falling, luckily he was only ten feet above the bear when he fell.

Now plummeting toward the colossal bear Alex grasped onto the materialized katana that formed in his palm.

Then Alex brought the katana down before watching it slide through the side of the bear.

Alex had quickly saved himself by sticking his blade into the bear, quickly slowing Alex's fall. While it had also left a giant cut scaring vertically down the bear's body.

With the bear letting out a loud and pained roar in response to the immense pain it had felt. Alex removed the blade from the bear.

Quickly causing Alex to fall to the nearby ground. Sticking his landing Alex gave a barrage of attacks to the bear's leg.

His goal was to cut off the creature's sources of movement. Yet his slashes and cuts seemed to have an effect on the large bear.

Then the bear turned away from the trees, bringing his front paws to the ground. Standing on all fours the bear glared at Alex.

Even though Alex had completed his goal of stopping the bear he was now in a bad situation. Yet Alex was not close to giving up.

As he ran toward the bear's front limbs. While the bear did not take kindly to this, swiping at the tiny pest in front of him.

Although the bear was shocked to see the pest unscathed and charging toward it. Alex had ducked under the bear's attack, narrowly avoiding it.

While he then jabbed his blade into the bear before it could react. Then Alex quickly drove the blade down.

Once again creating a huge gash across the bear. The bear enraged by this brought its front limb back, aiming straight for Alex's body.

Noticing this Alex tried to remove his weapon from the bear. Yet Alex couldn't, instead the bear had tensed up its limb, causing the blade to be stuck.

Alex quickly left the katana and dashed to the side of the bear's attack. While the bear grabbed the sword out of its forelimb and threw it.

Seeing this Alex unsummoned his blade before quickly summoning it again. Then he ran straight back to the bear.

After the wind in Alex's head had finally formed his trusty blade Alex ducked under the attacks sent toward him.

While this time Alex maneuvered his way to the back of the bear. Before thrusting his sword into the bear's hind leg.

This time Alex instead climbed atop the blade retrieving it, while he also continued to climb up the bear, before arriving on its back.

The bear reacting to this immediately began bucking like a bull, trying everything to throw Alex off its back.

Yet it was futile, with Alex gripping as hard as he could in the bear fur. As he did this he slowly climbed forward.

The bear exhausted and out of energy suddenly stopped its chaotic movements. Alex rose before running to the bears nearby head.

After arriving Alex started to prepare a jab to end the bears life. Except this was just a trap the bear had set.

With the bear's paw swiftly moving behind its head and slapping Alex off. Alex was sent flying off of the bear before landing in mud.

Alex got up as fast as he could, yet this was a stupid decision as he fell back to the ground. While the bear marched closer.

Sent into shock and fear Alex realized he wasn't able to move his body. Stuck to watch the bear violently tear apart his body.

Just as Alex began to lose hope he felt a sudden jolt within himself. He stood up once again. Except this time he did not fall back to the ground.

While he quickly avoided as an attack from the bear. Although unexpectedly the bears attack made contact with him.

As the swing across the air was suddenly thrown down when above Alex. With his duck rendered useless against the attack.

While Alex was left on the ground with the bear hovering over him menacingly. Alex tried to get up, yet he knew he wasn't able to slow.

This time Alex didn't know how he'd escape. Yet someone else did, as Lyra swooped in landing on the bear's head and thrusting her sword into it.

Yet it didn't go in deep enough, leaving Lyra vulnerable on top the bear. Realizing this the bear re-targeted its attack.

As it paw changed directions before ending up behind Lyra. Lyra pulled her double edged sword out the bear and ran toward before jumping off the head of the bear.

In the air Lyra spun facing directly toward the bears incoming paw. Then she stuck out her blade, as the bears attack hit Lyra her sword sunk into its paw.

While the clever trick had barely allowed Lyra to hold onto the bears attack, preventing herself from being sent flying.

Letting out a roar from Lyra's sneaky attack the bear was oblivious to Alex's scheme. With Lyra serving as a fine distraction Alex snuck behind the bear.

Locating its movement muscles Alex swung his blade into the bears hind leg. Cutting the achiles tenant Alex watched a the bears leg went limp.

Noticing this Alex ran to the other leg and cut across it once again, immobilizing its hind legs, causing it to fall backward.

Landing on its back facing the sky Lyra removed her sword the shocked bears paws and jumped off.

Falling toward the bear she angled her sword in front of her body. As she then landed on the through of the bear, thrusting her sharp blade into it.

Lyra and Alex had just killed the colossal bear, something to be proud of. It was so spectacular that the watching survivors began to cheer.

While Lyra felt pride and joy Alex was dissatisfied.

As he had finally come to his decided on his decision, fully backing his new plan.

After Alex had climbed aboard the plane and sat in his seat he reminisced on the previous night. As tailing the Spider the whole night had revealed many things.

With him learning the spiders weaknesses but also its strengths. Yet with this he realized he could not beat the spider.

While fighting the bear he wanted to prove to himself that there was a chance he could defeat the spider knowing its weaknesses.

Yet Alex had just proven to himself that he was not prepared and needed support and help to defeat the spider.

Except he couldn't receive help inside the dream, it was impossible for him and Lyra to fight together against the spider.

So Alex had come to one conclusion. That he needed to train, and not just a simple short training, but extensive and long lasting.

In short Alex was going to train for a whole month until he could finally beat the spider. Now Alex had finally excepted this and was now prepared.

I'm going to train nonstop until I can rip the guts out of that damned wretched vile abomination of a spider.
