Chapter 4: Efforts of the Deceiver.

~~~ [START]
"You know you aren't getting it back, right?" Honey said, taking a bite of her burger, while unintentionally staining a warmer jacket she took from Troy's bag.
"Keep it." Troy leaned back in his seat, eyes observing her every movement as she slowly devoured it.
They had decided to get some lunch before leaving for Forks. Tory suggested McDonald's since he didn't have any cash, and much like he expected, Honey supported the decision. Tory's only regret was that after they arrived, she offered to pay for both of them, because if he knew she would be the one paying, he would have suggested they went somewhere better.
Honey's eyes lifted from her meal. "Don't stare like that."
And he chuckled, then grabbed some fries from his plate and started eating.
Although Honey also stared back, he didn't seem to mind the evasion.
"How's dancing going?"
"I got a gig." She replied, smiling as she sipped her milkshake. "The pay is good too, but the only problem is—"
"'But' and a 'problem'?" They both laughed after his words. "This is your dream woman; problems shouldn't exist."
She grabbed a wipe for her lips, "Yeah, I know, it's just… It's taking more of my free time."
Troy nodded with a shrug, grabbed his burger, and started eating.
"First it was dancing, and now they want me to take pictures in a bikini."
She was staring too much, so Troy started chowing with his mouth open in an effort to make her glance away, but her eyes didn't move while she lightly laughed as though she knew his intentions.
"Shit, if they paid me 'a thousand a month' I'd wear anything."
"It's gone up to two."
And Troy nearly choked on her words. And she laughed while he grabbed the glass of Pepsi and cleared his throat.
"But if you want, I'll talk to the boss and see what—"
"I was joking."
Honey giggled at his words.
"What?" She asked, smirking, "Afraid of being mistaken for a girl again?"
"No," Troy leaned back. "And I wasn't mistaken for a 'girl'; they just thought I looked feminine and slammed me on gay magazines."
Then he raised his hands, "That's why I got tattoos in the first place."
"Is that also the reason you're wearing so many rings?" Her eyes turned to the silver accessories around each of his fingers.
"No, I just like them."
{ELSEWHERE} {HOURS LATER}
On a highway, driving at a third of the intended speed, was Troy. Who smiled when his eyes fell on Honey, who was sleeping on the passenger seat, with her whole body covered by two large stacks of his jackets.
He had been driving for hours, and sometimes, if not rarely, the road ahead would slip past his mind, and his body would drive as though on autopilot, by instinct.
It was weird how he did most of those things, but because of his mind, his existence was an exception. He believed that all he needed to do was to throw all thought of questions to the trust of self-discovery, or in a sense, a belief that with time, everything would be revealed, but he was foolish.
Because how could time teach a being it never acknowledged, how would it dare offer wisdom to a creature who was resistant to its touch.
Honey turned in her sleep, causing Troy to increase the temperature to its maximum.
And his eyes didn't even drift to the deer sprinting through the woods beside them, because from its smell alone, he could see its every step, he could hear its muscles, or how its breath slowed with each leap.
So, he leaned back, his inner voice singing the song 'La Tortura' which had just come out that week.
Completely oblivious to the fact that the chaos he was trying to escape would soon come lurking after him.
{ELSEWHERE}{HOURLS LATER}
"Wait, wait." Troy grabbed her arm, stopping her right in the middle of the staircase. She turned to him, avoiding his gaze. "Wait, I thought… You were booking me a hotel."
Honey smiled, secretly biting her tongue, "Well, Forks doesn't have any hotels, so…"
His jaw dropped when she continued her climb, which forced him to follow behind her.
"This is it." She said, opening the door, then walking behind him and pushing him in.
The apartment was large in most comparisons, and it had simple stairs that ascended to the upper floor.
"Um, I don't know if it's—"
"Don't." Her expression turned serious, hands pushing the door closed while turning its lock behind her. "I won't allow you."
Troy stretched the back of his head.
"It has two rooms." Her words finished.
Words that, unknowingly to her, pierced deeper than any nail would pierce a coffin.
