Chapter 22 - The A-Rank Tower

The A-Rank Tower loomed over Chaos Realm High School like a monolith, its crimson and black spires etched with glowing golden patterns that pulsed faintly in the night. It was the heart of the council's power, and even standing near it felt oppressive.

Akira and his team gathered just outside the tower's perimeter, hidden in the shadows of an abandoned courtyard. The faint hum of the tower's security barriers resonated in the air, a constant reminder of the risks ahead.

"This is a terrible idea," Rika muttered, her teal eyes scanning the glowing runes along the base of the tower. "That place is crawling with A-rankers, not to mention whatever traps the council's got set up."

"Which is why we need to be careful," Mira said, her voice steady. "The moment we're detected, it's over."

Kazuki cracked his knuckles, his electric sigil sparking faintly. "Relax. We've got this. Worst-case scenario, I fry some council lackeys, and we make a dramatic exit."

"Let's avoid that," Akira said, his tone firm. "This isn't about fighting it's about getting information. We need to find the hidden chamber Hana mentioned."

Rika sighed. "Alright, fearless leader. What's the plan?"

Akira knelt, sketching a rough map of the tower's layout in the dirt. "The tower has three main entry points, but they're all heavily guarded. Hana said the hidden chamber is likely beneath the central spire, which means we need to get inside without being detected."

Mira pointed to a side entrance marked on the map. "That's our best bet. It's used for maintenance, so the guards are lighter. If we can disable the security runes, we should be able to slip in."

"I'll handle the runes," Rika said. "My barrier can disrupt their flow temporarily, but it won't last long."

"Good," Akira said. "Once we're inside, we stick to the lower levels and avoid any patrols. Mira, you'll lead the way, your sigil will help us stay out of sight. Kazuki, you're on backup. If things go south, we'll need your electricity to disable any traps."

"And what about you?" Rika asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I'll take point," Akira said, flames flickering faintly around his hands. "If we run into trouble, I'll deal with it."

Kazuki grinned. "Sounds like a party. Let's do this."

The side entrance was smaller than the others, tucked away in a shadowy alcove. The glowing runes etched into the doorway shimmered faintly, their patterns intricate and intimidating.

Rika crouched in front of the door, her hands glowing as her barrier sigil flared. "These runes are stronger than I expected," she muttered, sweat beading on her brow. "Give me a minute."

"Take your time," Akira said, keeping an eye on the perimeter.

The runes pulsed brighter as Rika worked, their golden light clashing with the teal glow of her barrier. Finally, the runes dimmed, and the door slid open with a faint hiss.

"We're in," Rika said, standing and wiping her hands on her pants.

"Nice work," Kazuki said, stepping through the doorway. "Now let's find that chamber."

The interior of the tower was as imposing as its exterior. The walls were lined with glowing Sigil patterns, their light casting eerie shadows across the polished floors. The air was heavy, charged with the energy of countless powerful sigils.

Mira took the lead, her shadowy tendrils flickering as she guided the group through the labyrinthine corridors.

"Patrol ahead," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

The team pressed themselves against the wall as two A-rank students passed, their crimson-and-black blazers immaculate. Their sigils glowed faintly, the energy coiling around them like living armor.

"Move," Mira said once they were gone.

The group advanced deeper into the tower, their movements silent and deliberate. Every step felt like a gamble, the oppressive weight of the council's presence pressing down on them.

After what felt like an eternity, they reached a staircase spiraling downward. The air grew colder as they descended, and the glowing patterns on the walls shifted from golden to a faint, unsettling green.

"This is it," Mira said, her voice barely above a whisper.

At the bottom of the staircase was a massive door, its surface covered in ancient sigil markings that pulsed rhythmically. The energy radiating from it was intense, making the air hum with power.

"How do we open it?" Rika asked, eyeing the markings warily.

Akira stepped forward, his flames igniting. "Let's see if this works."

He pressed his hand against the door, and his sigil flared in response. The flames pulsed, and the door groaned as the markings shifted, unlocking with a deep, resonant sound.

The door slid open, revealing a dimly lit chamber beyond.

The hidden chamber was vast, its walls lined with towering shelves filled with glowing orbs—similar to those Akira and Rika had seen in the vault. At the center of the room was a massive holographic display, its surface flickering with fragmented data.

"What is this place?" Rika asked, her voice tinged with awe.

"It's a repository," Mira said, her gaze scanning the room. "The council's archive. Every decision, every secret, every failure it's all here."

Akira approached the holographic display, his flames dimming as he reached out to activate it. The data shifted, revealing fragmented images and snippets of text.

One phrase caught his eye:

"The boundary weakens. Sacrifices are necessary to maintain order."

Kazuki stepped beside him, his expression uncharacteristically grim. "Looks like the council's been busy."

Mira pointed to another section of the display. "This… this shows the original sigils. They're tied to the creation of the boundary itself."

Akira's chest tightened as he read the data. "They're using us, our power, and our sigils to keep the boundary stable. Every challenge, every expulsion it's all feeding into this system."

"And if we disrupt it?" Rika asked.

"The boundary collapses," Mira said softly. "And whatever's on the other side comes through."

The weight of the revelation settled on the group. The council wasn't just controlling the school; they were maintaining a fragile balance between worlds, one that came at an unimaginable cost.

Akira clenched his fists, his flames flaring. "Then we find a way to end this. For everyone they've sacrificed."

Kazuki nodded, his grin returning faintly. "Count me in."

Rika sighed but smiled. "We're with you."

Mira's expression remained calm, but her voice carried a hint of resolve. "If we're doing this, we need to be ready for war."

As the team turned to leave, the sound of approaching footsteps echoed through the corridor.

"They've found us," Mira bellowed.

Akira ignited his blade, his flames roaring. "Then let's give them a reason to remember us."
