BWDC:SDDK Chapter 69: Could the Real Jinx Be Mouri Kogoro?!
Conan hadn't explicitly mentioned the name of that famous detective who returned from studying abroad.
However, based on that description alone, Ren Ichimonji already knew exactly who Conan was talking about.
There was no doubt—Conan was referring to one of the top high school detectives, Saguru Hakuba.
As the resident detective and rival in the Magic Kaito series, Saguru Hakuba was unquestionably a T0-tier talent in the ranks of high school detectives, not at all inferior to Conan.
Still, Ren felt a flicker of doubt regarding why Saguru Hakuba would return to Tokyo at this specific time.
He remembered that Hakuba's appearances were few and far between—episodes like the Sunset Mansion or the Detective Koshien.
But he hadn't heard Conan mention anything like that, which was strange. What exactly was Saguru Hakuba's purpose for returning to Tokyo? Could it be a plotline from Magic Kaito?
Thinking of this, Ren felt a bit out of his depth.
Magic Kaito? Compared to Detective Conan, of which he had watched hundreds of episodes, he hadn't seen much of Magic Kaito. He mostly just remembered a girl named Akako Koizumi who could actually use real magic.
Was Hakuba's return aimed at a confrontation with Kaito Kid? What were the specifics?
Wait a minute... Kaito Kid was classified as a "Riddler."
That meant if Kaito Kid committed a crime, it would be recognized as a Special Mission, right?
From that perspective, if he followed Hakuba to the scene to check things out and lent him a hand, wouldn't he be able to farm points just like he did on the Queen Selizabeth?
Although farming points on the Queen Selizabeth hadn't gone very smoothly, this time was different.
Ren already had experience dealing with Kaito Kid.
This time, taking down Kaito Kid would surely be a sure thing.
However, to ensure the plan went smoothly, he needed to prepare a little secret weapon.
For instance, something like a legendary "Imperial Sword."
With a general plan in mind, Ren turned to ask Conan about other matters.
"By the way, let me ask—do you have school tomorrow?"
"Has Uncle Mouri received any more mysterious invitations to banquets, ceremonies, cocktail parties, class reunions, or any of those shady-sounding events? If so, tell me. I'll clear my schedule and see when I can head over."
Conan: ?
Why do you want to tag along for this too?
While it was true that a World Prize Awards Ceremony held at the Red Flower Seaside Hotel had sent an invitation to Uncle Mouri, the Junior Detective League wasn't going this time.
No matter how you looked at it, an actual violent incident shouldn't happen, right?
Is he crazy? Does he think a funeral has to happen wherever Uncle Mouri goes?
Conan had just finished grumbling in his head when he suddenly realized—
It actually seemed to be the case.
Thinking carefully about tonight, even though the Junior Detective League hadn't followed Mouri Kogoro, a violent murder had still occurred right next to him.
If one considered that Satoshi Miyahara looked and sounded almost exactly like Mouri Kogoro...
Did that mean the real jinx wasn't the Junior Detective League, but Mouri Kogoro himself?!
It had even reached the point where simply having a similar build and voice was enough to trigger a violent murder in the vicinity!
Thinking of this, Conan's expression turned serious.
He looked up and said earnestly, "There is indeed an invitation that was sent to the agency."
"But I think it's probably an investigation request disguised as an invitation, just like the situation with Kaito Kid on the Queen Selizabeth... The time is tomorrow at 7:00 PM."
"I'll notify you when the time comes... No, actually, you should just come with me tomorrow."
Even though Ren Ichimonji was indeed a bit eccentric, one had to admit he was reliable when it came to combat and investigating cases.
If Ren could accompany them the whole way, Conan believed that with his own intellect combined with Ren's physical prowess, they could likely resolve whatever case Mouri Kogoro's bad luck triggered before it even happened!
"...I have things to do tomorrow."
"Anyway, just give me the location. I'll head to the venue an hour early tomorrow to check out the situation."
Ren had already decided to find Kaito Kuroba tomorrow for a talk.
Besides, if Mouri Kogoro was attending a party in the evening, it was highly likely to be another violent murder case where someone wanted to use him as an alibi witness. It would probably only trigger once Mouri Kogoro arrived.
Of course, if it could be avoided, it was better to avoid it.
Arriving an hour early would be enough for him to turn the hotel upside down and find the culprit's murder weapon.
Knives, firearms, bombs—nothing could escape the eyes of Beika City's "Little Batman"!
Ren's words caused several question marks to slowly drift over Conan's head.
Conan: ?
When I give you a question mark, it's not because I have a problem, but because I think YOU have a problem.
Don't I remember you being unemployed... I mean, a freelancer? What kind of 'things' do you have to do? Don't tell me even the great Batman of Beika City finally can't hold out anymore and has to become a day laborer?
Thinking about it that way, a hero of justice who had to rely on part-time jobs just to make ends meet was strangely tragic.
Conan sighed and patted Ren's thigh.
He had originally wanted to pat Ren's shoulder, but due to the height restriction, he couldn't reach, so he had to settle for the thigh.
Conan said with heartfelt sincerity, "Ren, if things are really that bad, how about I hire you to clean the Kudo residence?"
"You can just live at the Kudo house, and I'll pay you the same salary. What do you think?"
Ren: ?
Having been successfully kicked out of Professor Agasa's laboratory, Conan rubbed his eyes.
He yawned and muttered, "Honestly, I was acting out of kindness. Why wouldn't Ren accept it?"
"He's already so miserable he has to work odd jobs to survive, yet his pride is still so strong..."
"Hmm? Are Auntie Eri and Uncle Mouri done fighting?"
Arriving not far from the Mouri Detective Agency, Conan watched curiously as Eri Kisaki and Mouri Kogoro walked out of the stairwell.
The couple, who had lived apart for years, didn't seem to have cooled off yet.
Eri's face was flushed with anger.
Mouri Kogoro kept pretending not to care, looking elsewhere, appearing somewhat awkward.
I really don't know why Uncle Mouri and Auntie Eri haven't divorced yet.
Conan rubbed his chin.
The relationship between these two seemed to be in very bad shape.
It felt like they were only maintaining their connection because of their daughter...?
"I'll talk to Ran about it later," Conan muttered.
Seeing Mouri Kogoro and Eri Kisaki get into a car and leave, he slowly wandered back to the Mouri Detective Agency.
Just as he walked into the room, Conan froze.
Conan: ?
Forget it, I'll just stay at Professor Agasa's house tonight. Anyway, there's no school tomorrow!
