Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: The Chamber of Commerce, Massive Transactions

Draco walked alone on the road toward the chamber of commerce.

He wore a white mask on his face and black clothing; his entire presence seemed mysterious and unpredictable.

Arriving before a magnificent building, Draco came to a halt.

"Welcome to the Dia Merchant Guild, honored guest!"

A waiter greeted Draco politely.

Draco pulled a gold coin from his pocket and handed it over.

"Find me a person in charge who has some authority; I have a big deal here."

"Yes! Honored guest, please follow me."

The waiter led Draco to a lounge area in the main hall.

"Please wait for a moment while I go and inform them."

The waiter left and returned shortly after.

Following behind him was a middle-aged man who was as round as a ball.

Draco recognized him as the fat man who had bid against the mysterious man for the legendary staff at the auction house last night.

"No wonder he's so rich; it turns out he has a monopoly on lime and steel."

Draco muttered to himself.

"Honored guest, I am the person in charge of the chamber of commerce, Musid Kochi. I heard you have a big deal?"

After Musid finished speaking, his gaze fixed intently on Draco.

Last night, he had spent a high price to win the legendary magic robe that was the finale item.

At this moment, it was displayed in the chamber of commerce hall to serve as a storefront attraction.

However, the consumption of a large amount of liquid capital made Musid desperately need a big deal to recover his funds.

So, as soon as he heard a big business opportunity had arrived today, he rushed over personally.

"Correct. I need a large amount of lime and steel. Do you have it here?"

Musid was stunned for a moment, then his eyes suddenly lit up.

It truly was a big deal. He hurriedly said,

"We have it. In this entire city, only I have it. How much do you need, guest? I'll have someone prepare it right away."

Draco spoke with great magnanimity, "I'll take as much as you have. Money is no object."

"No problem, I'll go prepare it immediately."

Musid nodded excitedly and immediately ordered his subordinates to go to the warehouse to tally the amounts of lime and steel.

Half an hour later.

Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Musid walked up to Draco with a face full of smiles.

"Guest, the tally is complete."

"It's a total of 2,000 tons of lime at 1 gold coin per ton, and 500 tons of steel at 5 gold coins per ton. The total value is 4,500 gold coins."

Draco nodded upon hearing this; the price was reasonable enough.

Obtaining lime was relatively simple; the key was the steel.

It required smelting in a furnace and was troublesome to produce, so 5 gold coins per ton was about right.

"The price is fine, but this quantity is a bit low," Draco said with a frown.

These materials wouldn't be enough to construct many buildings.

Musid gave a bitter smile. "Guest, this steel was transported all the way from the Imperial Capital; the quantity is naturally scarce."

"This is several years' worth of inventory for our chamber of commerce; it's quite a lot."

"Fine then."

Draco tossed him a large chest filled with gold coins.

"Take me to collect the goods."

"No problem, guest, please follow me."

Musid quickly stashed the chest away, a smile he couldn't hide plastered on his face.

He opened the room door and led Draco toward the warehouse.

After Draco confirmed there were no issues with the goods, he subsequently moved the entire warehouse's worth of lime and steel into his spatial backpack.

A spatial ring wouldn't be able to hold it all, but fortunately, the system's spatial backpack allowed for stacking.

It only took up two slots.

Musid had originally planned to earn a transportation fee, but he was shocked by the scene before him.

"What kind of space can hold so many goods?"

Musid's heart throbbed incessantly.

If he could obtain such an item, he would definitely make a massive fortune.

"Alright, this transaction is considered complete. I still need some other materials."

Musid hurriedly bowed and scraped. "Please speak, guest. While I can't speak for other things, our chamber of commerce's goods are definitely the most complete."

Draco handed over a piece of paper with the names of many types of materials written on it.

These were all materials needed to set up summoning building formations.

There were still many buildings in Nazarick that needed to be summoned; the more of these materials, the better.

"As much as you have of these things, I want them all."

Musid took the paper and read it carefully, becoming more alarmed the more he looked.

"Guest, this is no small sum."

"Don't worry, I'm not short on money."

Looking at the calm and indifferent mysterious man, Musid muttered inwardly.

"Where did this tycoon pop up from? To think he's so wealthy?"

Among the materials Draco listed, even the cheapest cost thirty gold coins, and many even cost over a hundred.

Items like horns from A-rank monsters, special crystals, magic gems, and the like.

Many were rare materials.

Musid had his subordinates lead Draco back to the lounge to wait while he began to get busy again.

At the same time, he was also sending people to investigate Draco's true identity.

It would be a pity not to slaughter such a fat sheep.

Draco sat on the sofa waiting quietly... On the other side, Aicia led the disguised Shiro and the others to the entrance of the City Lord's Mansion.

"What are you doing?"

The guards stopped them.

"Sirs, we are here to purchase wheat."

Aicia very reluctantly handed over 10 silver coins before they were allowed inside.

The City Lord's Mansion was the usual workplace of the territory's master, Count Jess Andrew.

His own residence was a luxurious castle; he wouldn't live in a place like this.

Around the main hall of the mansion stood several guards.

Aicia led the group before an old butler and subsequently explained their purpose.

The old butler looked at the group in front of him and asked suspiciously, "What do you want so many seeds for?"

"Don't ask about that. We are just handling business for our master. Just say whether you can sell them or not."

These were all seeds that had undergone special cultivation; ordinary farmers could only grow wheat, but they couldn't produce seeds from it.

Food was the economic lifeblood, and the Eastern Empire's control over it was extremely strict.

The City Lord's Mansion received wheat seeds issued by the Imperial Capital every year.

Every household had a certain amount of quota each year.

The clever Count Jess had discovered a profit to be made from this.

As long as he skimmed a bit from every household, the final total quantity was quite substantial.

Then he would quietly sell them to smuggling merchants; it was essentially free money.

Merchants would smuggle them to the nearby Puppet Kingdom, which was Clayman's territory.

The people there were living in dire straits, and food was also quite scarce.

Once there, the price of seeds was as expensive as the price of mature wheat.

It was simply a windfall profit.
