Chapter 28 - where she belong

The garden was slowly emptying.

Soft laughter faded into distant corners of the mansion as guests began to leave after the wedding.

Jay stood near the fountain, still holding the small bouquet Serina had pressed into her hands.

Jasfer walked up to her quietly.

"Jay…"

She turned immediately.

"Yes, Dad?"

He smiled.

A peaceful smile.

Not the tired one she had grown up seeing.

"I was thinking…" he began gently,

"When I leave tomorrow… why don't you come with me?"

Jay froze.

Just for a moment.

"With you?" she asked softly.

He nodded.

"You can stay with me and your new mom," he said carefully.

"A new house… a new start. We can live together again like before."

Jay looked down at the flowers in her hand.

Her heart squeezed.

Not because she didn't love him.

Because she did.

Very much.

"Dad…" she whispered.

He waited.

She lifted her face slowly.

"I want you to be happy," she said honestly.

"And I want you to build your new life."

He smiled.

"But…"

Her voice softened.

"I don't think I should come with you."

Jasfer's smile stilled.

Jay stepped closer and held his hand.

"Not because I don't want to be with you," she said quickly.

"Please don't think that."

He squeezed her fingers.

"I know."

She took a small breath.

"I finally found something here, Dad."

She looked back toward the mansion.

Light spilling from the windows.

Laughter floating out from inside.

Keigan and Keiren running across the hall.

Serina's soft voice calling someone.

Keizer's deep, steady presence.

And… him.

Keifer.

Quietly somewhere inside.

"This place gave me… a family," Jay whispered.

Her eyes shimmered.

"I don't want to leave them."

Jasfer followed her gaze.

He understood immediately.

"She feels safe," he thought.

Jay looked back at her dad.

"And I think…" she smiled gently,

"this is where I belong now."

Jasfer's eyes softened.

He lifted his hand and placed it over her head.

The same way he had done since she was little.

"You grew up," he said quietly.

She laughed softly.

"I had good training."

He pulled her into his arms.

Holding her close.

Not tightly.

Not desperately.

Just… proudly.

"You don't have to walk beside me anymore," he whispered.

"You've found your own place to stand."

Jay hugged him back.

"I'll always be your daughter, Dad."

He smiled against her hair.

"And you always will be."

And somewhere inside the glowing Watson mansion…

a new chapter waited for her.
