Chapter 31 - Divine Beast

Inside the dungeon, Tristan and his squad were retreating rapidly toward the exit gate.

However—

Behind them, a dense and overwhelming aura suddenly surged through the corridor.

It was thick. Heavy. Suffocating.

Even Tristan himself felt his body trembling under the pressure.

In his heart, fear crept in.

"This power… it's far beyond the Frost Dragon Rey defeated… I have to get them out of here fast. If not…"

A deep, thunderous roar echoed through the dungeon.

The sound alone froze everyone in place.

The crushing pressure of the aura slammed down on them like an invisible mountain.

One of the division captains collapsed to his knees, unable to withstand the monstrous presence.

Luna almost lost consciousness—

But in that instant, she activated her skill.

"Area Amplification."

A glowing wave of mana expanded outward from her body, spreading through the surrounding area.

The buff stabilized the space around them.

Their teammates were finally able to stand again and breathe properly.

But even so—

The oppressive aura still weighed heavily on their bodies.

Tristan shouted loudly,

"Everyone, move! Now!"

Suddenly—

A massive shadow descended from above.

A gigantic figure flew toward them.

Tristan's eyes widened in shock.

"Hell… Hellfire Dragon! Everyone, run!!"

The Hellfire Dragon was a high-tier monster.

A superior evolved form of the Fire Dragon.

A being whose estimated strength exceeded Level 150.

Tristan couldn't believe his eyes.

He had read about it only in ancient records and history books.

The Hellfire Dragon was supposed to exist on Floor 6.

Yet now—

It stood before them on Floor 9.

He muttered in disbelief,

"How… how can a monster like this reach the upper floors…?"

Moments later—

Tristan saw Victor's squad exiting the dungeon.

Victor noticed Tristan's group.

He laughed.

Then, with a cruel smile, he activated the gate and closed the dungeon door behind him.

Tristan's eyes burned with rage.

"That bastard…"

He immediately pulled out a mana stone to activate the exit gate manually.

But—

The Hellfire Dragon was already too close.

Before Tristan could activate the gate—

The monster opened its jaws.

A terrifying torrent of hellfire erupted forward.

Luna instantly summoned her strongest shield.

At the same time, the mage division unleashed their combined magic, reinforcing her barrier.

Now—

Their survival depended entirely on those four mages maintaining the shield.

Outside the dungeon—

After the attack was launched—

Rey moved forward toward the entrance.

He saw Victor standing there, smiling in satisfaction.

Rey's eyes narrowed.

The dungeon gate was sealed.

He immediately took out a mana stone and forcefully activated the gate.

Then he shouted,

"All Clan Origin units—support me! Now!"

The gate opened.

Rey and the Clan Origin squad rushed inside.

What greeted them—

Was devastation.

Tristan and his squad were sprawled across the ground, barely conscious.

Rey froze.

His rage surged.

Then—

He heard crying.

He turned.

Eris was supporting Luna's body.

Rey rushed toward them.

His heart clenched.

Luna was unconscious.

Her condition was critical.

Her arms—burned badly up to her shoulders.

Severe magical burns from blocking the Hellfire Dragon's attack.

"Emily!" Rey shouted.

"Heal Luna! Now!"

He turned to Melvin and the others.

"Give high-tier potions to Tristan's squad! Immediately!"

In front of Rey—

The Hellfire Dragon watched him silently.

Its sharp eyes glowed in the darkness.

No one had sensed its presence earlier.

It possessed a concealment skill that erased its existence from detection.

But Rey had received a danger notification from the system.

Rey stood still.

Fear did not exist in his eyes.

Only rage.

After stabilizing his team, Rey spoke coldly:

"Are you still trying to hide?"

A deep, distorted laugh echoed through the dungeon.

"HAHAHAHAHA! YOU ARE IMPRESSIVE, HUMAN. TO DETECT MY PRESENCE… I DID NOT EXPECT YOU TO BE THIS STRONG."

The Hellfire Dragon revealed its true form.

Its massive body emerged from the darkness.

It was even larger than the Level 124 Frost Dragon Rey had once faced.

Rey spoke calmly,

"Were you sent by someone?"

The dragon roared in arrogance:

"DO NOT INSULT ME, HUMAN. I BOW TO NO ONE.

I WAS DISTURBED BY SOMEONE WHO AWAKENED MY LONG SLEEP.

I FELT THE PRESENCE OF THESE HUMANS…

AND I RELEASED MY WRATH UPON THEM."

The dungeon fell silent.

Wilson and the others were frozen in fear.

The aura alone crushed their bodies.

They couldn't even stand on their own.

Rey stepped forward.

His voice was calm, but his eyes were cold.

"You're willing to slaughter them even though they didn't awaken you? Are you that tired of living?"

The Hellfire Dragon sneered:

"HUMAN, DO YOU WISH TO DIE BY MY HAND?

I WILL GRANT YOUR REQUEST."

The dragon released its dense aura.

Rey released his own.

Two terrifying pressures collided violently in the air.

The shockwave distorted the space itself.

But—

The monster's aura far surpassed Rey's.

Inside Rey's mind:

"This monster's level has surpassed 150…

I couldn't even stand properly against the Orc General back then…

This Hellfire Dragon's power is on another level…

If it uses humanoid form… I will die instantly."

Rey spoke again:

"So you intend to slaughter everyone who enters this dungeon?"

The dragon laughed mockingly:

"I SEEK THE ONE WHO AWAKENED ME…

BUT SLAUGHTERING THESE WEAK HUMANS HAS BECOME ENTERTAINING.

NOW THAT YOU'RE HERE…

I CAN FEEL YOUR POWER.

YOU ARE INTERESTING.

SO… SHALL WE PLAY FOR A MOMENT?"**

Rey's thoughts raced.

"If my squad attacks together… will it even slow it down?"

Then—

The system's voice echoed in his mind:

"Host, you are advised to use all available stat points and rewards obtained.

You are also advised to equip the item: 'Spear of Dragon Slayer.'

Item information has been confirmed."

Rey slowly exhaled.

His grip tightened.

His eyes burned with resolve.

This was no longer a retreat.

This was no longer survival.

This was war.

His eyes were locked on the floating system interface.

His breath slowed.

His heartbeat thundered in his ears.

"…This…"

His hands trembled slightly.

Then he spoke:

"But I need Level 100 to use this weapon."

The system responded calmly:

"System modification confirmed. Host is granted temporary equipment access."

"Time limit: 10 minutes."

"Hidden Attribute and Special Attributes 'Blood of the Ancient Wyrm (Passive Growth)' and 'Dragonbane Guard (Reactive Defense)' are locked."

"These functions cannot be activated at the current level."

"Upon reaching Level 100, all attributes will be fully unlocked."

Rey stared forward in silence.

"Ten minutes…"

His eyes narrowed.

"Can I defeat it in ten minutes?"

At that exact moment—

The Hellfire Dragon's massive body began to shrink.

Its colossal form compressed.

Bones cracked.

Flames twisted.

Black fire wrapped around its body.

In seconds—

The dragon transformed.

It now stood in humanoid form.

A terrifying dragon-man figure.

Black flames burned on its shoulders.

Two crimson dragon horns rose from its head.

Its body was covered in dragon scales.

Its tail resembled a living blade.

A humanoid dragon.

Not a beast.

Not a monster.

A Dragonkin form.

Its aura was far more condensed.

Far more terrifying.

Rey went silent.

He understood instantly.

This was no ordinary evolved monster.

This was a true superior species.

Rey asked the system quietly:

"Are dragon-type monsters stronger than orcs and others?"

The system replied:

"Correct, Host."

"Dragon-type monsters far surpass normal monsters."

"They are considered dungeon bosses by classification."

"However, there exist rare monster types that exceed even dragon-class entities."

Rey fell silent.

The weight of those words pressed on his mind.

Then—

He made a decision.

"System, open all rewards and place them into inventory."

Ding. Dong.

"All rewards have been transferred to inventory."

Rey's eyes widened.

"…Memory Stone?"

He asked the system:

"What is this Memory Stone? Can I use it?"

The system replied:

"This Memory Stone contains the stored memories of an individual."

"Host can access and view its contents."

Before Rey could even touch his stat points—

The Hellfire Dragon attacked.

Brutally.

Violently.

It vanished from sight.

Its speed was almost undetectable.

BOOM—!

A devastating punch slammed into Rey's chest.

Blood exploded from his mouth.

His body was thrown backward.

Pain tore through his organs.

Before the dragon could follow up—

Rey summoned his weapon.

The Spear of Dragon Slayer appeared in his hand.

In one motion—

He thrust it forward.

The spear pierced straight into the monster's leg.

The Hellfire Dragon roared in pain.

Its body flickered—

And vanished.

Its voice echoed in the air:

"USELESS HUMAN!"

Then—

It reappeared.

Its eyes locked onto the spear.

Shock flashed across its face.

"SPEAR OF DRAGON SLAYER?!"

"WHERE DID YOU GET IT?!"

Its rage exploded.

Memories flooded its mind.

Images from hundreds of years ago—

Its master.

The legendary figure who once wielded the Spear of Dragon Emperor.

Its voice trembled with fury.

Then it spoke coldly:

"HUMAN… WHAT IS YOUR NAME?"

Rey stood tall despite the blood on his lips.

His voice was firm.

"My name is Ace."

"Leader of Clan Origin."

"The one who will kill you."

The dragon fell silent.

Inside its mind:

"Ace… different name…"

"But when he wielded that spear…"

"This feeling…"

"This familiarity…"

It narrowed its eyes.

Then it spoke:

"Good."

"I will see how far your power truly goes."

BOOM—!

The dragon launched a magic attack.

'Hellfire Fist.'

A massive black flame fist tore through the air.

Rey instantly drew his dagger.

He crossed his arms—

And absorbed the attack.

The impact shook the dungeon.

The dragon's eyes widened again.

"That dagger…?"

"It looks similar… but its power is different."

Then it asked:

"Hey, human."

"That dagger and that spear—where did you get them?"

Rey stayed silent.

His thoughts moved fast.

"Does it know about both items?"

He answered coldly:

"You don't need to know."

Then—

Without hesitation—

Rey allocated all 275 stat points.

His aura exploded.

His body surged with power.

Mana surged violently.

Muscles tightened.

Bones strengthened.

His presence changed completely.

The dungeon itself trembled.

The Hellfire Dragon smiled slowly.

His body surged forward like a living weapon.

The Spear of Dragon Slayer glowed with a crimson-gold aura as he thrust it forward with terrifying force.

Special Attributes Activated:

Draconic Suppression Field

True Dragon Execution

The space itself warped.

A single strike—

Pierced straight through the monster's chest.

Blood sprayed into the air.

The impact shook the dungeon walls.

The damage was catastrophic.

But Rey did not stop.

He instantly switched weapons.

His dagger appeared in his hand.

Black flames surged across its blade.

He released the absorbed power—

'Hellfire Fist.'

The attack exploded forward.

A massive black flame strike slammed directly into the monster's body.

The dungeon trembled violently.

For a moment—

It seemed as if victory was possible.

But then—

The monster's aura suddenly surged.

Its power skyrocketed.

The pressure alone crushed the air.

The monster's voice echoed coldly:

"You think my power is only at this level?"

BOOM!

Rey's attack was cancelled by the sheer pressure of the monster's aura.

The energy wave shattered.

Rey was blasted backward.

His body flew through the air—

Until Willson caught him.

Rey coughed violently, blood spilling from his mouth.

Before he could recover—

Emily stepped forward.

She stood directly in front of the monster.

Her expression calm.

Her staff glowing.

Behind her—

Melvin raised his hands.

Mana gathered violently.

The air ignited.

A massive spell formation formed above him.

It was the same spell.

The one he used to kill the Level 135 Orc General.

"Blazing Sun."

A colossal sphere of condensed magic fire descended from the sky.

The monster's eyes widened slightly.

It muttered in shock:

"Divine… Arcanist."

Melvin screamed as he released everything.

All his mana.

All his strength.

All his will.

The spell slammed into the monster.

A blinding explosion of light consumed the battlefield.

The shockwave shattered stone.

The dungeon shook violently.

However—

Rey saw it clearly.

The power was different.

Weaker.

Far weaker than before.

Inside his mind, Rey understood.

"The attack that killed the Orc General…"

"That power didn't come only from Melvin."

"It came from the core i was holding back then."

The light faded.

The monster stood unharmed.

Its hand closed—

And crushed Melvin's spell as if it were nothing.

Like squeezing smoke.

Melvin collapsed to his knees.

Breathing heavily.

Emily rushed forward, activating buffs on Melvin, amplifying his power.

But in front of them—

Was a being beyond human logic.

Beyond dungeon logic.

Beyond system logic.

Then—

The monster spoke.

Its voice was calm.

Low.

But everyone heard it clearly:

"I am not a monster of this dungeon."

Silence fell.

The monster continued:

"I have a master."

The aura shifted.

The form changed.

Its humanoid body transformed.

Scales expanded.

Wings erupted.

Its massive dragon form returned.

A true dragon.

A divine beast.

Then it spoke again:

"My name is Draconar."

"I am the companion of a hero from the ancient era."

"I was given a mission to keep this dungeon stable."

"And to wait for my master's return."

Rey stood up slowly.

Blood still flowed from his mouth.

Pain tore through his organs.

But he forced himself to speak:

"So… you're someone's familiar?"

"Then why did you attack us?"

"And what is your real mission?"

Draconar looked at him calmly.

"You are still too weak to know the truth, human."

"But I know you will grow stronger with time."

"When the time comes…"

"I will tell you everything."

Draconar's gaze shifted.

It landed on Melvin.

He stared at him for a long moment.

Then he closed his eyes.

His body began to fade.

As he disappeared, his voice echoed softly through the dungeon:

"Take care of the Divine Arcanist well, Ace."

Only a few heard it clearly.

Willson.

Tristan.

A few others.

But Rey froze.

"Divine Arcanist…"

He felt he had heard that title before.

Somewhere.

Somewhen.

But his body could no longer endure.

Pain overwhelmed him.

Rey activated his Regeneration Skill.

Green light wrapped around his body.

His external wounds healed.

But the internal damage—

Remained.

His organs were still injured.

His bones still cracked.

His mana pathways damaged.

Just then—

Alex entered the dungeon.

His eyes widened at the sight.

Everyone was injured.

Broken.

Bleeding.

He shouted orders:

"Help them! Now! Emergency support!"

His subordinates rushed forward.

Alex supported Rey's body and said jokingly:

"Hey, my friend… I thought you were already dead, you know?"

Rey smiled weakly.

He tried to laugh.

But the pain in his chest was too strong.

He couldn't speak.

Draconar moved through the darkness.

His massive dragon form searched the depths.

His voice thundered through the cavern:

"You bastard!"

"I know you're here!"

"I felt your aura earlier!"

"I will erase your existence from this world!"

Sage felt it.

A massive killing intent locking onto him.

His face darkened.

He muttered coldly:

"Useless divine beast…"

"I didn't expect you still had power left."

"My master said your strength was sealed."

Before he could activate a portal—

Draconar appeared.

In an instant.

His jaws clamped down on Sage's arm.

CRACK!

Sage screamed in pain.

Blood splattered the floor.

Draconar's voice roared with hatred:

"FINALLY!"

"WE MEET AGAIN, BASTARD!"

"I HAVE QUESTIONS I WANT TO ASK YOU!"

The dungeon trembled.

The hunt had begun.
