Chapter 23 - My Name Is Cao Qingtong. Qingtong as in “Lush and Verdant.”

Hearing his voice, the woman turned her head to look at Ning Chen.

But the moment she clearly saw his face, the fear in her eyes vanished instantly.

What replaced it—

Was a trace of embarrassment.

She reached back to rub herself unconsciously, a faint blush rising to her cheeks.

In this day and age, good looks are justice.

With a face like that, even if you sold someone off, they might still help you count the money.

"I… remembered everything…"

"Um… sorry, okay~"

"You already hit me, scolded me…"

"Don't stay mad anymore, alright~?"

Blinking those fox-like eyes, she bit her lip and spoke softly, hands hidden behind her back.

Ning Chen sneered.

"Don't be mad? Miss, you almost sent me straight to the underworld for soup!"

"Considering how good your attitude is—"

"I won't pursue this any further today!"

"Damn it, what bad luck!"

"I'm leaving!"

He snorted coldly, cursed once more, and couldn't be bothered to argue with her any longer.

He'd already hit her—no loss there.

Besides, even though she was beautiful, Ning Chen was in a hurry to find the ghost bus and had zero interest in tangling with her further.

"Ah—wait, wait!"

"What now?"

Ning Chen stopped and turned back, glancing at her.

"Um… are you a cultivator?"

She looked at him with hopeful eyes and asked carefully.

"You know what a cultivator is?"

Ning Chen's eyes narrowed. A faint golden glint flashed deep within them.

Almost instinctively, he activated his Golden Pupils and scanned her.

If she knew about cultivators, she clearly wasn't an ordinary person.

At the very least, she moved in higher social circles and knew things normal people didn't.

For example—

Ghosts.

Cultivators.

Under the scrutiny of his Golden Pupils, Ning Chen indeed noticed something unusual.

She was an ordinary human, with no cultivation of her own.

But her body was faintly wrapped in wisps of dark crimson resentment aura—extremely weak, yet present.

Only around her chest did it appear slightly denser.

This was a major bad omen.

Earlier, he'd been too busy hitting her to notice.

Looks like this woman had been latched onto by a ghost.

Realizing this, Ning Chen's heart stirred.

Unexpected joy!

"I knew it!"

"Golden light from your hands, ripping car doors off—no way you're a normal person!"

"I finally met a real cultivator!"

Hearing Ning Chen confirm it, her face lit up with excitement. She hurriedly put on her high heels and limped over.

"You've seen dead cultivators before?"

Ning Chen's face darkened instantly.

"Nope. Never had the chance."

She giggled, enduring the pain as she walked up to him, then looked him up and down.

Suddenly, she reached out and poked his chest.

"Ooh~ so hard…"

"No wonder you could tear off a car door."

Ning Chen yelped and jumped back two steps, staring at her warily.

"If you have something to say, say it—don't do that! I'm kind of scared!"

She froze, realizing she'd crossed a line, awkwardly withdrawing her hand.

Then she reached out again—

This time, politely.

A proper handshake.

With a flirtatious smile, she said:

"Little brother, this counts as 'no fight, no acquaintance,' right?"

"I almost hit you—it was my fault. I'm sorry~"

"My car cost eight million! You ripped the door off and slapped me swollen~"

"So let's call it even."

"Let's properly introduce ourselves!"

"My name is Cao Qingtong!"

"Qingtong as in 'lush and verdant'!"

"Ning Chen."

He'd already hit her, yelled at her, and her attitude wasn't terrible.

His anger had mostly faded.

Seeing her slender jade-like hand, Ning Chen nodded slightly—

And shook it.

Just as he was about to let go—

His palm suddenly tickled.

In that split second of distraction, she grabbed his hand firmly.

Like a snake following its staff, she slid right up beside him.

One hand locked onto his, the other hooked around his arm.

Her fox-like eyes curved as she smiled slyly.

Ning Chen instantly knew—

He'd fallen into a trap.

What the hell—did he just run into a female hooligan?!

Truly—

Boys should protect themselves when out alone.

"Miss Cao, you really don't treat me like an outsider, huh?"

"Miss Cao? Call me Qingtong!"

"After what you did to me earlier—don't you think you should take responsibility?"

"Big sister's never even had a boyfriend, you know~"

She looked up at him teasingly.

Ning Chen's mouth twitched.

She'd completely broken him.

He struggled twice, but couldn't shake her off.

Letting out a helpless sigh, he spoke righteously:

"Miss Cao, I'm not that kind of person."

"I said—call me Qingtong!"

She puffed her cheeks, emphasizing the name again.

A mature woman suddenly acting cute—

The contrast nearly stunned Ning Chen.

But he recovered quickly, his internal energy surging outward and gently pushing her away, freeing his hand.

Seeing her move closer again, Ning Chen raised a hand to stop her, voice calm but firm.

"Sorry. We're not at that stage."

"Miss Cao, please have some self-respect."

"I'm really not a casual guy."

She was beautiful.

And yes, his heart had fluttered.

But there was no way he believed she was throwing herself at him for no reason.

He wasn't handsome enough for women to fall into his arms at first sight.

Combine that with her excitement upon discovering he was a cultivator—

And the lingering resentment aura on her body—

Ning Chen was certain.

This woman wanted something.

He wasn't a saint.

He needed merit points, yes.

But not charity-level free labor.

"I'm not casual—does that mean I am?"

"This is the first time I've ever done this to a man!"

"You've treated me like this—aren't you going to take responsibility?"

She asked pitifully.

"How did I treat you?"

"I didn't sleep with you. What responsibility am I taking?"

"In my opinion, Miss Cao, you're asking me for help, aren't you?"

"There's an old saying—those who show excessive enthusiasm without reason are either thieves or schemers."

At those words, Cao Qingtong brushed her hair back awkwardly, lowering her head in a rare moment of unease.

Ning Chen observed her expression and inwardly sneered.

As expected.

"Miss Cao, have you been haunted by a ghost lately?"

"You can tell?!"

She snapped her head up, shock and delight written all over her face.

"Of course."

She scratched her head irritably and sighed.

"Since you can tell, I'll be honest."

"I know you're capable, so I wanted to get close to you and ask for help."

"Please—help me catch the ghost!"

She looked at Ning Chen pleadingly.

"Ning Chen, I'm really about to go insane!"

"I hired dozens of so-called masters—they were all frauds!"

"I don't even dare go home anymore!"

"Please… help me."

Seeing him unmoved, she pouted, eyes watery, cheeks flushed.

"Well… worst case…"

"I'll let you hit me one more time~"
