Chapter 20 - Shinx

Three days passed just like that.

After staying in the hospital for three days, Kael felt that his body had mostly recovered. Under Riven's extremely envious gaze, he was finally discharged.

There was no helping it—although Riven's injuries were lighter, his physique simply couldn't compare to Kael's. He would need to stay in the hospital for at least a full week before he could leave.

Once Kael got home, he plopped down onto the sofa and let out a heartfelt sigh.

"Ah… home really is the most comfortable place."

"It's good that you know that," Father Orion said as he looked at his grandson, his tone earnest. "You can't push yourself that hard anymore. If something really happened to you, what would your grandma and I do?"

That night, when they heard Kael had been injured, it had nearly scared the life out of the elderly couple.

Thankfully, he was fine in the end—only then did they finally feel at ease.

"That's right, Kael," Mother Faye added. "You really scared us. You have to be more careful in the future, alright?"

Seeing their worried expressions, Kael repeatedly promised that he would be more cautious from now on.

After chatting with him for a while, the two elders went out to buy groceries, saying they wanted to get some nourishing food to help him recuperate.

Once they left, Kael returned to his room.

His room was on the first floor and had a large floor-to-ceiling window. Outside the window was a ten-square-meter patch of grass.

This was where Corviknight usually moved around—and also where it slept. As long as it wasn't raining, Corviknight would sleep there.

After all, with a body over three meters tall, while it could enter the house, moving around indoors was inconvenient. Most of the time, it preferred staying outside.

"Gaga…"

At the moment, Corviknight was sprawled on the grass, basking in the warm sunlight. Its steel-like feathers shimmered with a metallic sheen under the sun, and it occasionally let out comfortable cries.

Kael did feel a tiny bit regretful about Corviknight's calls—this particular cry lacked a bit of intimidation. If it had a call like Pidgeot's, that would have been perfect.

But the thought only crossed his mind briefly before he let it go.

Soon, Kael turned his attention to the container on his desk.

Inside was the Pokémon egg of Shinx, placed within a Pokémon Egg Incubator.

The incubator was filled with a greenish nutrient solution, specially formulated to maintain the various elements required by the Pokémon inside the egg.

Kael carefully took the egg out of the container. Using his aura power, he sensed the vigorous life force within the egg.

Without hesitation, his aura condensed into a blade and sliced across his palm.

Fresh blood immediately flowed from the wound.

He pressed his bleeding palm directly against the Shinx egg.

"Buzz… crackle crackle…"

In an instant, a powerful surge of energy rippled outward. Fine strands of blue electricity flickered wildly across the surface of the egg, dancing like living serpents.

Seeing this, Kael's heart leapt—he knew the critical moment had arrived.

Taking a deep breath, he shouted:

"Heaven and earth bear witness—contract formed!"

As his voice fell, a mysterious, ethereal sound echoed as if from the void itself.

Kael felt a new bond form between himself and the Shinx—an intimate, indescribable connection.

At the same time, a faint but pure stream of energy flowed back into his body, invigorating his spirit.

Through this bond, he could clearly sense Shinx's joy—pure, lively, and brimming with vitality.

"Crack! Crack!"

The egg began to fracture, thin cracks spreading rapidly across the shell.

A series of crisp cracking sounds rang out.

"Buzz—!"

A blinding white light burst forth from the cracks, shining like a miniature sun and illuminating everything around them.

Kael instinctively closed his eyes, yet even through his eyelids, the light left bright afterimages.

"Ao-wu…"

When the light finally faded, a soft, babyish cry reached his ears.

Kael opened his eyes.

Before him stood a small blue Pokémon. Its head and front half were light blue, while its back half and tail were black. Yellow four-pointed stars marked its ears and tail, with black fur around its neck and yellow bands on its forelegs.

It was Shinx.

This Shinx was noticeably larger than a typical newborn, clearly inheriting the physique of its Apex-level mother.

"Ao-wu…"

Shinx looked at Kael and let out a coquettish cry, instantly melting his heart.

How could anyone not like something this cute?

Half an hour later, Kael was gently stroking Shinx's soft fur, prompting it to make comfortable purring sounds.

"Mmm-mmm…"

Since it was drinking milk, Shinx could only make muffled noises.

"Ga…"

Corviknight stuck its massive head in from outside, looking down at the little creature that wasn't even as big as its head. It let out a disdainful cry, as if saying:

This tiny thing? I could swallow it in one bite.

Can it really help Master?

"You idiot," Kael scolded with a laugh. "You weren't even as big as it when you were born. How dare you mock it?"

When Corviknight had first been summoned, it had only been palm-sized—not even a third the size of Shinx now.

"Gaga!"

Corviknight immediately protested, insisting that such a thing was impossible—that it had never been that small.

"Ao-wu…"

Shinx tilted its head, its yellow eyes full of curiosity as it looked at Corviknight, showing not a shred of fear.

Seeing this, Corviknight proudly lifted its head, as if saying:

Look how handsome your big brother is.

"Ao-wu…"

Shinx immediately responded cooperatively, as if saying:

Big brother, you're really cool!

Kael chuckled at their interaction and opened Shinx's status panel.

Pokémon: Shinx

Gender: Male

Level: 5 (Beginner)

Type: Electric

Ability: Intimidate

Potential: Quasi-Champion

Moves: Discharge, Thunder Wave, Leer, Volt Switch, Thunder Shock, Wild Charge

Seeing this, Kael was genuinely astonished.

Not only did Shinx have Quasi-Champion potential, it also already possessed a powerful Electric-type finisher.

Truly worthy of being the offspring of an Apex Pokémon—far stronger than ordinary Pokémon from the very start.
