Although not the richest, but in terms of business influence ? the Sterling family is definitely the Number one. And they are also a part of the Royalist faction, Although, not out of loyalty.
Even in my old world, earth, Businessmen were always buddy-buddy with the government and the banks.
In the same way, Having a good relation with the Ruling Family gives them a huge advantage in business.
But unlike, earth, where Government and banks both show favouritism towards the Tycoon families, In here Both the governments and banks are in control of the Royal Family, the hand that is also responsible for signing their permits.
And The Royal family is at the Top, at least on the surface. So The sterling and most of the other business families have no other way but to stay 'Loyal' to the Royal family.

Honestly, the option of Shares is more appealing, they would make me a part-owner of a Sterling venture, giving me a foothold in their empire.
But shares also brings visibility, audits, and corporate drama to your doorsteps. And its tempting only for people who are interested in business, since, it would allow them to be a part of the major sterling business empire.

"And another reason for giving it to peasants, is that most noble look down on commoners. if they see commoners playing the same game as them, they might think that chess is a game of commoners and while We can try to make Commoners our main customer base, there is problem with that as well"

"Yes, Commoners are financially more aware and won't buy something unless its something they need or they find interesting or fun. So, Doing marketing among commoners is harder."

"Well lets do the calculation, If we sell one board to 95 commoners in the price of one unit money, we get 95 * 1= 95. But if we sell 5 nobles at the price of 20, then its 20 * 5= 100. No matter how big commoners are in number, you can't make much profit with luxury goods from them. my calculation is based on the best scenario for commoners and the worst case of nobles. and If we make chess a commoner's product, some nobles might reprimand me later."
