The Evening breeze whistled passed Olivia's ears, dragging along a few strands of her hair that escaped from her hat.
She glanced at her wrist watch as she made her way down the dark senile alley that leads to the nearest bus stop.
The low street lamps were flickering, and she could hear the scutters of rodents as they rummage trash cans nearby.
Olivia's nerves prickled, as she tread quietly through the path.
Suddenly, the hairs on her neck stood simultaneously with the loud thud she heard from behind her.
Instinctively, her pace quickened as she resisted the urge to turn around.
"Ugh…" came a low strained grunting sound from behind her.
She stopped dead and peek over her right shoulders.
On the ground was a bloody body of a young boy that should be around her again.
He groaned weakly, crouching his stomach. It seemed he was hanging by a thread for life.
Olivia hesitated for a bit.
She stared at his back and arms. The slashes of wounds and the blood that kept freely from them, didn't seem like it would stop anytime soon if she chose to ignore him.
What if he dies? Her chest heaved for a moment.
She held onto her backpack tight as she walked towards him.
"Hello?" Olivia whispered and bent down to take a good look at him.
he suddenly stopped moving, sending her into utter shock.
"Hey! Hey?! Are you okay?" she panicked as she tried to feel for his breath.
"Help! Can anybody help please?!" she frantically screamed.
She held out her phone and tried calling emergency service when a bloody hand held hers tight.
"Don't… call…" he tried speaking. Blood gushed out of his mouth and Olivia tried to pick him up.
" Hey, are you okay? Can you stand" she asked, her voice laced with concern. It was a relief he wasn't dead.
He coughed again and tried standing up without Olivia's support.
"Let's go to a hospital"
"No…" he staggered and held onto Olivia for support.
"You need attention right now…"
Of course that was the obvious thing, not that she wasn't curious about what happened to him but his life mattered most now.
The boy's grey eyes wandered in the dark, searching Olivia's face and appearance from head to toe.
"Take me to your house…"
"What is my house? Why…why? Umm it's a bit far, you'll have to take a bus down the road."
The guy could only nod. All the strength he could muster right now, where what he was using to walk.
He rested his head on Olivia's shoulder as they arrived at the bus stop. She helped him to a bus seat as people kept stealing glances at them.
The guy was slowly losing consciousness and drifting off to sleep.
" Hey don't die, stay awake. She shook him vigorously.
A few minutes later they arrived at Olivia's house.
She made him remove his bloody grey vest and lay him on stomach to prevent blood staining the couch.
She raced upstairs to get her sister's first aid box.
It was then it dawned on her that she had brought in a total stranger into her house.
She froze still, her sister wasn't home yet…
What if he tries anything funny…
But there's nothing an Injured person could do, he could barely even walk.
She scanned the kitchen table where she had gone to get a glass of water for the pain killers.
She saw a little fruit knife and hid it under her blazer. If he tries anything funny, she might as well, add a few more slashes before pushing him out into the cold night.
Downstairs, the boy was out cold on the couch, he lay stiff and Olivia had to check on his breathing once more.
She tried waking him up so she could help him with the pain killers and bandage. But he wouldn't budge.
She sat by his side and pondered, how long should he be sleeping.
Would he be up before her sister descends. What if he died from his sleep, she won't be held accountable for his death right?
She stared at his tired face as she took in his features, he had long curly brown hair styled into a mullet and a mole under his left eye.
with his eyes closed, his long lashes rested on his pale cheeks.
His lips were small and plumpy, giving his younger face a much more young vibe.
As Olivia pondered on the next thing she to do, she slowly drifted off to sleep.
When she opened her eyes he was gone from the couch.
She searched around but couldn't find a trace of him.
Although he had made use of the bandages and drugs she left at the table, was he strong enough to leave on his own? She didn't even get to know his name.
She sighed and glanced at the clock. It was 15 minutes past 8. Her sister should be home anytime soon. She cleared the table and headed upstairs for a change of clothes and a refreshing bath.
The rattling sounds of the Volkswagen engine outside, registered that Ivy DeVille was back. She brought takeout food for dinner as usual.
Olivia had the dining table set out and the sisters had dinner together.
Unlike Olivia, Ivy had striking blue eyes and dark brown hair to wit. Her high cheekbones made her resemble a makeup brand model.
Although Ivy had dated in the past, she was never in a relationship for too long. The longest Olivia could recall was 5 months, the guy was really nice and always brought along treats.
They had to break up because he wasn't in support of her moving all the way down to Oakland county.
Sometimes Olivia felt responsible for her sister's loneliness. Ivy was 29 young and beautiful, yet Olivia was her only real concern.
"Olly, how was your first day at school? " She smiled at Olivia.
Her eyes, gleaming in the lights.
"It was great"…
"Yeah?" Olivia, who had her face buried over her dinner, could feel the smile leaving her sister's face.
"Olivia, your Principal called..."
