Chapter 1 - Chapter One

With a final swing of his sword the greatest General in the age of conquests Orion Khar falls to the injuries he sustained in his final battle.

Hundreds of deep cuts litter his body and he coughs up blood into the inside of his mask. He can hear the reverb of his cough sound through his headset.

"It's nice to see that we've driven you to your knees at last General Khar" A girls voice sounds through his head cutting through the vacuum of space.

"You psychic bitch, you had to bring thousands of your men to just bring the three of us down. And even then it took a week for you to do it" Orion starts to let out a laugh before he is stopped by a sharp pain through his back.

He trys to turn his head to meet the eyes of the treacherous bastard who stabbed him but he is stopped by another stab through his back, followed by another and another after that. It felt as if hundreds of blades pierced his back one after the other.

Orions vision started to fade and he found himself losing feeling throught his body. A minute or so of being stabbed is all it took for the wounded Orion to finally be thrust into the arms of death.

News spread fast about the famous Generals defeat at the hand of a mysterious group that vanished just as quickly as they appeared. The empire that formed because of the General and his actions was inherited by his Disciple and succesor Lyra Kael.

Like Orion before her she had no aptitude for politics and sucked at her job of empress. The Empire without any other factions to fight quickly and swiftly fell to infighting. Lyra abdicated her throne and went into isolation to train and learn the ways of her master.

According to reports her hiding place was never found and still trying to master what her master taught her she stayed their until her death.

[1000 YEARS LATER]

"Get your ass up you no good rat!" Orions ears perk up as he finds himself curled into himself on the ground. He sharply turns his head upwards to see the face of the woman who scolds him. She is an ugly sort with short black hair and a scarred face.

"Who do you think your referring to as a rat?" Orion growls angrily. He notices that his voice is no longer as deep or gravely as it once was.

"What? Are you talking back to me boy!" The lady says signaling to somebody in Orions blindspot. Before he could react a sharp kick to the ribs from his right flipped him into his back. He saw a large man wearing a mask lumber over him.

"He's worked so hard he's become delusional! Cut him loose for the day and if he tries to skip out on work let that debt collector bitch know where to find him" The man says to the woman who agrees and scowls at Orion.

He watches as his assailants walk away from him. He stays laying on his back as his eyes scan the surroundings trying to reason where he is, he finds himself in an alleyway which didn't make any sense.

His final battle took place at the edge of space where no light shone from beyond. With no planets for a handful of light-years so there was no way that he could possibly end up in a random alleyway.

He raises his hands to his face not feeling the calluses that had almost swallowed them whole. His hands now looked almost brand new, with the exception of some newly gained scratches.

Orion pushes himself to his feet and lays his eyes upon his new body thanks to a glass window. His once short brown hair now replaced by long curly crimson hair. His eyes once gray now replaced by a striking brown.

Orion mesmerized by his new appearance is unable to notice a man in black armor approaching him. When Orion does finally notice the man he is already within five feet of him.

"Hello Citizen" The man clad in armor says holding his arm out fully extended towards Orion. His hand fully open like he was expecting something.

"What do you want?"

The man cocked his head sideways before beckoning for something to be placed into his hand. Orion just looked at him dumbfounded.

"Your tribute Citizen" The man says annoyed.

"Tribute? I'm not giving you any kind of tribute. I don't even have anything to tribute!" Orion exclaims reaching inside of his pockets expecting to find nothing. When he does he finds a small flat coin in his pocket that is smaller than the center of his palm.

"Do you mean this?" Orion asks taking out the coin and holding it in his palm.

"Tribute Citizen, Now" The man says looking at the coin expectedly.

"Nah" Orion says stuffing the coin back into his pocket. He turns around and begins walking away with his hands in his pockets. Just as Orion expected the man fed up with Orions actions attempts to attack him. The man pulled a knife from a sheath hidden in his armor.

He lunges at Orion and twists the knife towards the back of his neck with the intention of putting it clean through Orions throat.

Orion now able to think clearly and no longer on the ground is able to easily dodge the mans strike. Spinning around to catch the mans arm and using the momentum to swing him into a wall.

"Ugh. You little asshole!" The man yells angrily as Orion snatches his knife and puts it towards his throat. Orion crouches to be eye to eye with the man.

"I'm new here. So your going to give me all the information I need, or I'm going to push this into your throat and go track down somebody else who will give that information"

"What do you want to know?"

"I got a mental checklist. What planet are we on, What is the year, where on the planet are we, who are you"

"Were you born yesterday?"

Orion reacting to the mans sarcasm gave him a left hook which ended up knocking his lights out.

"Ugh. Wake up!" Orions gave him a slap which woke him up.

"No sarcasm. Answer my questions"

"Invetral is the moon we're on. The year is 1067, we're in the capital Burnick, I'm a private in the Burnick militia" The says gritting his teeth in anger.

"1067? That can't be it was just 7006"

"What are you talking about? The last year dated 7006 was a couple hundred years ago during the age of the empire" Orion deciding he needed no more information hit him again causing him to black out.

"The magicians I met along my conquest often talked of reincarnation, they believed their attunement to the forces of the universe would grant them the ability to be reborn" Orion spoke to himself as he examined his new appearance.

"I ought to track those two down and figure out what I can about my new body" Orion said looking in the direction his two assailants walked. Before he could set off he spotted a small pouch laying not that far from where he got beat.

He picked the pouch up off the ground and examined the contents. Inside the pouch were a couple more coins like the one he had in his pocket along with a metal card that had the face of Orions new body on it.

The name written on the card was Rin Hale a 19 year old it also had some other info like birthday, blood type, etc. it also happened to have the address of the current residence where Rin lived.

Orion walked out of the alleyway onto a quiet street. Docked cars filled the street but not a person was in sight. A group of men also clad in black armor came out of an alley not that far away from where Orion was standing the carried people across their shoulders.

The people were bloodied and beaten and one of them had a mask like the man who had assaulted Orion earlier. Orion watched on as the armored men activated a green device and disappeared.

"It seems teleportation magic has evolved since my time" Orion commented to himself. A couple of seconds after the men teleported away people began to flood the street.

Orion left the alleyway and joined the crowd of people. He looked at the street signs which appeared to be holograms and none of them were the street where the house was supposed to be.

As Orion wandered around looking for the street aimlessly he felt a hand grip his shoulder halting him in place. He turned around expecting on of the men in armor to be behind him.

Instead he turned to see a boy not much older than Rin holding him by the shoulder. The boy had long hair like Rin but his was black and straight.

"Rin! I haven't seen you in a while brother" The boy pulled Orion in for a hug. Orion pushes the boy away gently and looks at him trying to dredge up any memory of the boy.

"I hit my head not that long ago and my memory keeps failing me, and I just can't place your name" Orion says hoping for the boy to fall for his pretty crappy lie.

"Marek my name is Marek, we went to school together, granted we haven't seen each other in a year or too but That's cold man" Marek says looking genuinely hurt by Orion not remembering his name.

"But with everything going on I guess it can't be helped that you wouldn't care about anything other than your parents funeral" The boy said trying to bring Orion in for another hug. Orion again pushed the boy away politely.

"Any chance I can get you a meal to eat?"

"No I'm good. Any way you can point me towards Rickers Street? I've gotten a bit turned around"

The boy suspiciously looked Orion up and down and then answered.

"Two streets that way" The boy said cautiously, he pointed towards the direction of the Alleyway Orion had just come from.

Orion thanked the Boy and quickly rushed off in the direction the boy had pointed to. Within a couple of minutes of searching Orion found the address where Rin was living.

The house stood out among other glorious houses. It was three stories tall and was made out of a dark brown wood and smooth shining stone. Orion marveled at the giant house for a couple of seconds before walking up to the front steps.

Orion had spent his 46 years of life never staying in one place. From the day he was born he never spent longer than a year on a singular planet. His usual home was a messy room on a star ship hurtling through space.

As Orion reached the top of the steps he was immediately met by a green scanner which hovered over his body for a couple of seconds. Then the front door of the house swing open welcoming him inside.
