Chapter 58 - Chapter 58- The Heart Beaneth the Ice

The battlefield fell silent after the last Frostborn Sentinel collapsed.

Shattered ice fragments scattered across the ruined courtyard like broken mirrors, reflecting the dim violet sky of the dungeon above. Steam rose slowly where Serena's flames had melted patches of frozen stone.

But the silence didn't feel peaceful.

It felt… watchful.

Shin wiped a thin layer of frost from his blade before sliding it back into its sheath.

"Everyone report."

His voice was steady, but there was an edge of tension beneath it.

Ren leaned against a broken pillar, rolling his injured shoulder carefully. Lightning flickered faintly along his skin as he forced mana through the wound to slow the bleeding.

"Still breathing," he said with a grin. "Just a scratch."

Serena narrowed her eyes.

"That 'scratch' nearly cost you your arm."

"Worth it," Ren replied.

Seraphina stepped closer, frost blooming lightly beneath her boots as she examined the injury. Her expression remained calm, almost cold, but her fingers moved with precise control as she froze the wound's edges to stop further bleeding.

"Temporary stabilization," she said quietly.

Alicia approached and placed her palm near the injury, radiant energy glowing softly around her hand.

Golden light spread slowly through Ren's shoulder.

Muscle fibers knitted together.

Pain faded.

Ren flexed his arm once, impressed.

"Alright," he said. "I'm back."

Shin nodded once.

Then his gaze shifted forward.

Toward the distant structure.

The obelisk.

It stood at the center of the frozen ruins like the spine of the dungeon itself — a towering black monolith wrapped in thick chains of ancient ice. Faint blue mana pulsed along its surface in slow rhythmic waves.

Like a heartbeat.

Jin felt it immediately.

His instincts tightened.

"That's the core," Kaiser muttered.

Ophelia tilted her head slightly, studying the structure with narrowed sapphire eyes.

"No."

Everyone looked at her.

"That's not the core."

Her voice was soft.

"It's a seal."

The temperature in the courtyard seemed to drop another degree.

Seraphina stepped forward slowly, emerald eyes focused on the obelisk.

She could feel it too.

Something deep beneath the frozen stone.

Something old.

Something powerful.

Advancing Toward the ObeliskThey moved cautiously.

Formation tightened naturally this time — the earlier simulation now instinctively guiding their movements.

Shin led the front line.

Kaiser remained slightly ahead to absorb unexpected impact.

Seraphina and Jin moved in the center.

Ren and Serena controlled flanks.

Alicia and Ophelia maintained support and tactical awareness.

Every step closer to the obelisk increased the pressure in the air.

The dungeon's mana density thickened.

Breathing grew slightly heavier.

The ground trembled faintly beneath their feet.

Jin noticed something else.

The space itself felt… distorted.

Not violently.

Subtly.

Like invisible currents moving beneath reality.

His spatial senses sharpened instinctively.

"Something is moving below us," he said quietly.

Shin stopped immediately.

"Distance?"

"Thirty meters," Jin replied.

"Directly beneath the obelisk."

Seraphina's frost aura sharpened slightly.

"I feel it."

Ophelia whispered,

"The seal is weakening."

Then the chains moved.

Not slowly.

Not dramatically.

They simply… cracked.

A sharp, metallic sound echoed through the frozen ruins.

CRACK.

The ice chains wrapped around the obelisk split apart as ancient mana surged outward like a pressure wave.

Everyone braced.

The ground beneath the monolith collapsed inward.

A massive fissure opened.

And something began to rise.

The Guardian EmergesAt first it looked like shadow.

Then shape.

Then scale.

A creature pulled itself slowly from the broken earth — massive wings folded tightly against its back, armored hide layered with frost-covered plates. Blue fire burned deep within its chest, glowing through cracks in its body like molten ice.

A Wyvern.

But not an ordinary one.

This creature was older.

Larger.

Its wings alone stretched nearly twenty meters across.

Mana poured from its body like a storm.

S-Rank+.

The team felt it immediately.

Kaiser's jaw tightened.

"Now that's a boss."

The Wyvern's head lifted slowly, icy breath rolling from its nostrils as its glowing eyes locked onto the intruders.

The dungeon trembled under its first roar.

The sound slammed through the air like thunder.

Serena instinctively ignited flames along her blade.

Ren grinned.

"Well," he said.

"Guess we found the real fight."

The First ClashThe Wyvern moved faster than its size suggested.

With a powerful beat of its wings, it launched forward — ice shards exploding outward from the ground beneath its claws.

Shin reacted instantly.

Gravity surged around him as he stepped forward, blade glowing with compressed force.

The Wyvern's claw crashed down.

BOOM.

The impact shattered stone.

Shin's gravity field redirected part of the force, but the shockwave still blasted outward across the courtyard.

Kaiser slammed his fist into the ground, earth reinforcement anchoring the formation.

Ren flashed upward in a bolt of lightning, slashing across the Wyvern's wing joint.

Sparks exploded.

But the scales barely cracked.

Serena followed with a concentrated flame beam — scorching across the creature's side.

This time the scales blackened.

The Wyvern roared again.

Its tail whipped across the battlefield.

Jin stepped forward.

Stage I — Spatial Fracture.

The space along the tail's path warped slightly.

Its trajectory shifted just enough to avoid smashing directly into Alicia and Ophelia.

The tail slammed into a pillar instead.

The stone exploded.

Seraphina's Domain expanded.

Frost surged outward.

Ice crystals formed along the battlefield, slowing the Wyvern's movement and anchoring the terrain.

For the first time, the creature hesitated.

Seraphina's emerald eyes glowed faintly.

"You're in my field now."

Jin's ObservationJin didn't rush.

Not yet.

His eyes moved across the battlefield carefully.

Shin controlled pressure.

Seraphina controlled environment.

Kaiser absorbed force.

Ren and Serena dealt damage.

Alicia and Ophelia supported.

The formation was working.

But the Wyvern's core wasn't exposed yet.

Its chest still pulsed with blue fire.

That was the target.

But reaching it would require breaking through its scale armor.

Jin inhaled slowly.

Then vanished.

Void Step.

He reappeared midair beside the Wyvern's neck.

Stage III — Dimensional Collapse.

Space compressed inward violently around the creature's upper torso.

For a moment the scales cracked.

Alicia saw the opening.

Her spear flashed forward like lightning.

CLANG.

The spear pierced the cracked plate.

The Wyvern screamed.

Blue fire erupted outward.

The blast knocked Jin backward through the air.

He landed lightly several meters away, sliding across the ice before stabilizing.

Seraphina's eyes flickered toward him.

"Still alive?"

Jin smirked faintly.

"Trying to impress you."

Her expression remained perfectly calm.

But the corner of her lips almost moved.

The Real Fight BeginsThe Wyvern lifted into the air.

Wings spread.

Blue fire gathered inside its throat.

Shin's voice cut through the battlefield.

"Brace!"

The monster inhaled.

Then unleashed a massive freezing breath across the entire courtyard.

Ice storms erupted instantly.

Stone pillars froze solid.

The battlefield vanished under a storm of frost.

But Seraphina stepped forward.

Her Domain flared brighter.

Frost answered frost.

Two opposing blizzards collided midair.

For several seconds the battlefield vanished under roaring ice storms.

Then—

The storm cleared.

And the real battle began.
