Chapter 3 - The Start (3)

His eyes narrowed at me as I turned to walk in the bedroom. Scoffing. "Rude." His arms crossed.

Closing the door behind me, I immediately sat on the bed, burying myself on the bed. As if looking for warmth to hold.

I sighed. "I'm real tired..." An amused smile on my face as I try to rest my eyes.

For a few seconds of silence in the room, with only sound was the fan and the sounds from the outside. I was laying on the bed, fallen asleep..., a peaceful sleep.

it was so peaceful... Too peaceful. Only the humming sounds from the birds as they contact with each other at the nearby tree yet can also sound so incredibly quiet.

Unfortunately, something snapped in the head. My eyes were now wide open as I saw myself, perfectly in the middle of the bed.

Is it already night? I thought. Turning to the unshut window, it seemed to be evening.

As the clouds waves slowly from frame, its background colored with both orange and yellow shine from the sunset.

The sunsets were as beautiful as I have last seen before.

It was mesmerizing to see and admire. I mean—who wouldn't? The light coming from the sun was bright like golden, as halo. Especially seeing it at a beach.

I sat up on the bed, with my eyes still lidded. I rubbed my eye as I yawned, my hand tried covering my opened mouth. "I'm so tired..." I mumbled.

When did I slept off laying at the center of the bed? "Was there a scene—"

No.

Hah... No??? I chuckled it off. "This is my story."

Then a knock, I turned to the door.

"Sir?" She called, outside the door. "Are you asleep?" She asked. Who was she again? ...Right.

"I'm awake." I said with a low tone, as I rub both of my eyes with my palm before stretching my arms up. The door slowly opened to reveal it was Emi.

She stared as I proceed to stretch my arms, her head tilted. "Sir... Endrick?" She called. "Did you sleep earlier?" My hands slipped down, now touching the bed as I drifted to her.

"Yeah." I answered. She seemed to be feeling uneasy from the way she fidgets her intertwined fingers. "Uhm..."

"I found a golden ticket from the table, is it yours?" She asked, handing out the golden ticket to me. Feeling ashamed for assuming it, she looked down, nervous.

"Ah, yes." I replied. "What is it for?" Her eyes instantly lit up from questioning it. Her fingers curled as she looked up at me.

"It was an invitation to a birthday party." I said, she immediately had her mouth opened in an o shaped. "Really, can I come with you?" She asked, excited.

She clenched her hands from her sides, as if hoping. "...?"

"As long as you don't go around and cause trouble." I said, crossing my arms. "Yes sir!" With confidence, no shame.

"I'll be sure to be at my very best behavior, sir!" She added, her hands curled against each other, near her chin. I nodded my head. "You say that." A thin smile

"Yay! Sir Endrick is the best!" She said, jumping around in excitement and happiness of my acceptance.

"... Yeah." I mumbled. "But before that, we should go look around for your outfit." I said, my hand was on her shoulder as she stopped jumping before turning her head at me.

Moments of silence, she finally replied back. "Okay!"

"..."

No. At the back of my head, I hope for Daniel's sudden appearance at the front door and take her, not me.

I'm not taking care of myself.

"..." Yet I still ended up walking with her, gently holding her small hand as we walk. She was looking around filled with curiosity. "Woah!"

She pointed at some of the stores we passed.

We were now at the town square, it was big. They were still many people. Some were chattering and going home.

I gazed up at the beautiful orange with shining golden sky. It was calming to see.

"Look! look!"

She said, tugging me to look. I glanced to the way she had pointed, and it was dressing store.

She then looked up at me and pouted. "Please?"

"We will take a look then." A light of hope in her eyes, she started jumping as tugging over to it. "Let's go!"

I almost tripped at her pulling me, following along with her anyways.

It seemed as if this was the first time she had been spoiled by her father. But that might be the brutal truth.

Considering her father have only been there to show off that he's at responsibility.

She wanted an outfit that fits to her style, right?

"Sir?" I glanced over to her, showing an outfit that seemed to be a white collared Victorian shirt with a black skirt and black ribbon from the collar.

She smiled. "It is good, right?" I can tell she had admired that dress before showing me.

I nodded; the edge of my lips curled to a small smile as I stared at the dress.

"Is that all?" I asked, her expression changed to confusion. "I can take more?"

She was already feeling guilty from wasting my money on outfits.

But I'm more guilty, I'm about to use his money...

"We can head over to the counter if you want."

"Ah—yes...!" She said, in a hurry to the counter. The woman from the counter noticed us.

"Is this all you guys want?" The woman asked, she had a generous smile on her face as she looks at us.

I nodded as I gave a wrapped cloth with bunch of coins in it.

Her eyes lit up at the wrapped cloth on my hand. "Here—" From the offer, he immediately took it and gave me the dress.

"haha, don't mind it! Now take it and go."

She said, pressing the wrapped cloth to herself as she gestured us to walk away with the dress.

She seemed as if luring kids to go get candy outside.

"... Okay?" I said in response, before taking away Emi out with the dress on her hand.

Do they not have money here?

I would've sworn that money was much more important than coins...

"... Sir Endrick...?" She mumbled.

No answer.

I continued taking her back home, holding her hand as I rethink about what just happened.

I can't blame her; I would've reacted the same thing.

So, I'm not much of a better person.

Until we got back at home, she took one last glance at me before going to the bathroom.

"Sir Endrick?" She tugged.

"..."

How about "Star Endrick"? I would love to be seen as an idol, too.

Imagine having a dad that's an idol, in a puffy magical outfit colored with pink, an outfit that's obviously for girls.

How amazing would that be in someone's head? Probably a femboy.

But now clearly... I do look feminine, do I?

He's in both genders anyways.

"Sir Endrick, are we still going to the birthday party?"

I took a glance at her, froze with a blank expression.

Not so sure whether we should or not, because the old man doesn't seem so innocent as he looks.

Possibly a grandma in disguise... What am I talking about?

Ahem!

"Yes." I said, calmly. A smile so genuine came.

"... Oh."

"Okay!"

She sounds ridiculously convinced. Am I to judge? Absolute yes.

And all along the pathway we go to the old man's house and celebrate his daughter's birthday tonight!

But I do know one hell, we're not the only ones who got invited. The chances for a party to filled with crowd is 99%, to me.

It would actually not be called a "party" without a crowd though.

As we walked to the front door, I knocked.

In a response, the front door opened to see it was the old man, he was smiling in joy. Even appreciation.

"Oh, you came!"

"And who's this little girl? Is she your daughter or..." He asked, his hands on his knees as he looked down at her, smiling.

"Yes, she's my daughter." I answered.

That left Emi surprised, she didn't expect for me to address her as my daughter. Moreover, she was obviously terrified of the old man's eyes observing her.

"Oh how sweet of you to bring her along! She would've felt lonely without you." He said, looking up at me.

"Right..."

"Come inside." He offered, pulling the door open for us. I nodded and took her with me as we walked in.

There were some drinking at the dining room as they chattered, drunk. And some ladies were talking to each other.

I assume these are uncles and aunties? Meanwhile, we're just guests...

"Everyone!" The old man announced, he took a glass of beer up in his hand.

"This is the one I have mentioned earlier. Thus, you all may welcome them with kindness."

For a old man like that, he would've had his voice corrupted. This is not how I imagined him to be.

We stood there, as if dumbfounded. Everyone had turned to us.

Oh...!

Emi obviously had her anxiety up, is that why she's hiding behind me right now?

Many few aunties had came up surrounding us to look at her in awe.

"She's so adorable!"

"Aww she's shy, how cute!"

"Is she your daughter??"

I backed away from them a bit, hiding her behind me. "Haha yes, but she doesn't feel comfortable with talking to strangers." I replied, keeping my usual demeanor up.

At this rate, she can drop a tear from the surroundings.

Making a scene in a public party is embarrassing.

"Oh, is she?" I nodded.

Another yet, I'm not her biological father. We're twins!

She's me, and I'm her.

Except the other one is in a different body.

But how disappointing, I had to act as if I'm not the same as her.

"You can go, Emi."

"Okay."

I gave her a smile before going up to them, she stared for a moment before going up.

With little steps from upstairs, she looked around the rooms.

I was sitting at the living room, chattering with the old man.

Or should I call him "Mayer Louis"?

"Oh, how have your day gone?" He asked, sitting beside me on the couch while the others dance in joy from drinking.

"Great."

"Good to hear."

It is really hard to breath without the scent of wine and alcohol getting into my nose either.

Stings me to the head. Then, perchance 50% alcohol.

Including the strong smell of cigarettes, I'm about to die out of breath.

"So, how old is your daughter this year?"

How typical, and basic.

"She's five years old."

Correct me, I'm just guessing her age by her looks.

But either way, I should keep her close as we walk along paths.

Anyways—about the glitch, whatever it was. His name is Mayer Louis. What does it have to do with the following story?

Plus, he was just a giving me a golden ticket for free. Nothing special.

Just the ordinary events for someone's life.

... Is what I would say if I was unaware.

"Ah, then what about your daughter? How is she?" I asked.

"She's as stubborn as ever."

Indirect call to someone being annoying, is that not?

I chuckled. "Why is that?"

"She's..., just hard to deal with." He answered. From the sound of it, he doesn't seem too comfortable to talk about it.

His head lowered a little, with shameful.

Perhaps something had happened between them? Or not, did something happen to her?

For a father that had hosted a big party, he probably paid them for their appearance to be here.

No arrival would be free, haha.

"I understand. If you're comfortable to talk about it, then we could talk about other topics."

I said, resting my hand on his shoulder. His eyes softened from my response, sighing.

"... Right."
