"I am begging you," Carina said, standing several feet away from me with both hands raised protectively over her head. "Whatever you're about to do, please warn me first."
"I don't know what I'm about to do!"
"That's precisely what scares me." I glared at her and she grinned. She was not helping matters at all.
Agnes struck the ground with her walking stick.
"Both of you, stop talking." Carina immediately closed her mouth.
"Again, Iris."
I stared at the stone resting on the wooden table before me. Agnes had placed it there twenty minutes ago and instructed me to lift it without touching it.
I had accidentally sent it rolling off the table and that was not the goal. I took a slow breath and tried to lift it again. I had been practicing how to control my magic with Agnes help.
When nothing happened to the stone, I frowned. I could hear Agnes sigh.
"You're trying too hard."
"How can I try too hard? I'm not even doing anything."
"Exactly." I turned to her.
