Chapter 20 - 20 The Witness Who Refused to Obey

Aira stood on the balcony of her apartment, gazing at the glittering city lights on a cold night.

Her phone vibrated again. A message from the Watchers:

"Directive: Remain an observer.

Violation = contract termination."

Her heart pounded.

For the first time since her empathy was disabled, she felt something—the urge to act.

Farid appeared at the end of the street, eyes anxious.

Without waiting for instructions, Aira descended the stairs.

Each step felt heavy—not because of her body, but because of the risk.

If the Watchers knew, her contract would be void. If she failed… she might be destroyed.

Yet a voice inside compelled her:

"This is no longer about the contract. This is about being human."

She reached Farid. "Are you okay?" Aira asked.

Farid stared at her for a long moment, and for the first time, she saw hope.

They were no longer just witnesses. They would act.

Elsewhere, another witness appeared—Remy.

A young man newly "activated" as a witness.

His eyes sparkled with curiosity and a hint of fear.

This new witness was both threat and opportunity.

Aira realized: the contract was beginning to lose control.

The Watchers could no longer manage everything.

New witnesses, unexpected emotions—all opened new paths.

"If all witnesses start acting… what's left for them to control?" Aira whispered to herself.

That night, one decision was made:

They would no longer obey. They would resist.

And for the first time since the contract began, Aira smiled.

Not because of victory—but because choice itself was power.
