In the Small Office
Johny Lee followed Director Zane into the room, feeling a knot of frustration in his chest.
If it were his old self, he would have immediately poured out his grievances to Zane, letting the Director know exactly what kind of petty tyrant Jack was. But the current Johny wouldn't do that.
Having gained a little understanding of office politics, he knew that complaining to his leader was a double-edged sword. Regardless of whether the issue was resolved, the act of tattling.would make him look weak and incapable of handling interpersonal conflicts. A leader needed subordinates who solved problems, not created them.
"Johny, are you feeling unwell?" Zane asked, noticing his poor complexion.
Johny quickly adjusted his mood, forcing a smile. "I just didn't sleep well last night. Thank you for your concern, Director."
"That won't do. You need to get more rest." Zane leaned back in his leather chair. "Pull up a chair and sit next to me. The market is about to open."
"It's fine, it's fine. I'll stand."
Zane pretended to be displeased. "Just sit when I tell you to. Don't be so polite."
"Okay. Thank you, Director Zane."
Johny was very mindful of his posture now. Even on the round stool next to the boss, he only sat on the edge, keeping his back straight.
Looking up at the screen, the time in the lower right corner showed 9:15 AM. The Call Auction session for the markets had begun. This was a test of market sentiment before the official opening bell. Simply put, if more people placed buy orders at higher prices during this period, the stock would open higher.
"Johny, how many years have you been trading stocks?"
"Three or four years," Johny lied smoothly.
"Do you have some kind of trick? Otherwise, how did you call the bottom on Hainan Rubber so accurately the other day?"
Johny hesitated. He wanted to say he didn't have a trick, that it was just luck but that might make his leader think he was holding back secrets. That could cause resentment.
So, he made something up on the spot. "It's not really a trick. I look at the daily volume and the upper and lower shadow lines. When specific patterns align, the probability of a rise is higher. You also have to cross-reference the moving averages, the K-line trends, the MACD indicators, and the KDJ crossovers..."
Zane nodded sagely, pretending to understand the jargon. "Mm, good. You do have to look at those lines."
He was in a good mood. Although he hadn't made a fortune on Hainan Rubber in the end, he had to admit that Johny had a perfect eye for short-term entries. The subsequent drop was just bad luck with the overall market.
9:30 AM. The Market Opened.
The major indices opened slightly lower, with the bears having the advantage.
Zane pointed at the computer monitor. "Come, help me pick another winner."
"I'm only slightly confident in ultra-short-term trading. For longer holds... well... if it doesn't rise well later, you..."
"Haha, being good at ultra-short-term is impressive enough! It's okay, don't feel pressured. Just pick a stock freely!"
Johny agreed and moved the mouse to click on the "Radar Alert" feature of the trading software.
This was a new function he had discovered that morning. It displayed real-time alerts, such as which stocks had large institutional buy orders or which were experiencing rapid price movements. It was very useful; with it, Johny didn't have to search blindly like a headless fly.
Just then, information about several railway stocks flashed in the small radar alert box in the corner of the screen.
* DaQin Railway - Large Sell Order
* GuoHeng Railway - Sharp Drop
* GuangShen Railway - Large Sell Order
* DaQin Railway - Interval Volume Increased 6.018x
* DaQin Railway - Sharp Drop
"The institutions are dumping," Zane muttered. Since he had traded DaQin Railway just a few days ago, he was paying close attention to it. "Railway stocks are finished. They rose too much in the past two days and became overvalued. I don't think they'll recover for at least half a year."
Johny felt the same way and didn't pay much attention, looking at other sectors instead.
The old man and the young man were analyzing pharmaceutical stocks when suddenly, a notification appeared in the radar alert box that completely stunned both of them.
* DaQin Railway - Hit Upper Limit (Limit Up).
Johny blinked, thinking he had hallucinated.
What?! It was just a large sell order! How did it hit the limit up instantly?!
"BACK!!!"
...
Flash!
The very first second of the time rewind, the message alert "DaQin Railway - Large Sell Order" appeared in Johny's sight again.
He frantically clicked the mouse to open the stock's daily chart. It was currently down by -0.78%.
Although the drop wasn't massive relative to yesterday's close, the stock had opened higher this morning, and the market makers had been aggressively selling, pushing the price down all the way. Now the stock price was "jumping off a building." Judging by this trend, hitting the limit down wasn't impossible!
"The institutions are dumping," Zane said with a wry smile, repeating his line from the previous timeline. "Railway stocks are finished. They rose too much in the past two days and became overvalued. I don't think they'll recover for at least half a year."
"Director Zane!" Johny no longer hesitated. "DaQin Railway is going to rise! If you want to buy, do it quickly!"
Zane was stunned. "DaQin Railway? Rise? Isn't it falling right now?"
"It's a trap! The main players are trying to trick the retail investors and shake them out before the pump!"
Zane kept shaking his head. "Railway stocks are no good. Look, look, it's still falling!"
Johny said quickly, "Trust me! My ultra-short-term analysis says it's definitely bullish. It will rise quite a bit. Really!"
"This..." Zane hesitated for a moment. Perhaps remembering that Johny hadn't been wrong the previous two times, he gritted his teeth and leaned forward.
"...Okay! I'll listen to you! Buy!"
Although Zane had suffered a mild stroke in the past and his legs weren't great, the old stock enthusiast's hand movements were surprisingly agile.
Tap, tap, tap......
He hit the keyboard a few times. Because Zane was still very pessimistic about the future prospects of DaQin Railway, he only conservatively bought three thousand shares.
Can it really rise? Zane was half-believing, half-doubting.
Johny wasn't entirely sure either. After all, it would require an extraordinary amount of capital to pull the price from a decline all the way to the limit up in seconds. He hadn't had time to check the order book before the rewind, so Johny also stared intently at the screen to see how the main players were going to pull it off.
Uh, could the radar alert have given the wrong information?
Thinking of this possibility, Johny's hands and feet instantly felt cold.
Buddy! Don't do this to me! I can't handle this kind of stress!
-0.78%...
-0.92%...
The stock price dropped a few more points!
Johny's palms were sweating. Brother Qin! Hurry up and rise!
Suddenly, the trading screen, which was completely green with sell orders...was instantly replaced by a sea of red!
Johny and Zane just blinked, and then they watched in astonishment.
DaQin Railway was forcefully pulled from a declining position to a gain of +3.58% by a single massive buy order of tens of thousands of lots!
+6.42%...
+8.38%...
+8.92%...
+9.37%...
+10.01%...
The institutions were buying regardless of cost!
It hit the limit up instantly!!
Director Zane took a deep breath, so excited that he slapped his thigh three times.
"Good! Good! Good!"
