Chapter 3 - CHAPTER 3 — THE STRANGER TEACHER

The rain had stopped by morning, leaving the city streets slick and reflective. Neon signs from the lower district shimmered in the puddles as Mando walked toward the industrial edge of town. He hadn't slept much. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw the gun shining, humming, alive, and Kael's words repeated in his mind:

"You are different. You don't just summon a weapon, you forge it."

Mando reached the alley where Kael had appeared. Nothing moved at first, just the dripping of water from the rooftops. Then, a shadow detached itself from the wall. Kael stepped forward, hood pulled low, expression unreadable.

KAEL You're late.

MANDO I… I couldn't sleep. Everything you said… I don't understand.

Kael studied him, eyes narrowing. A faint smirk touched his lips.

KAEL Of course you don't. You've lived your life in a cage of ordinary rules. The world outside this alley doesn't follow them.

He held out his hand, pointing to the empty air in front of Mando.

KAEL Summon it. Now.

Mando's pulse quickened. He closed his eyes and reached into the emptiness, willing the weapon to appear. A faint hum answered, but it flickered, unstable, barely taking shape.

The gun that formed in his hands vibrated, the metal twisting unnaturally. Mando felt the recoil before a single bullet even fired.

MANDO It's… It's too strong. I can't control it.

Kael took a step closer, his voice calm but commanding.

KAEL You're trying to force it. Again. Stop thinking about control. Think about purpose. What do you need it to do?

Mando froze. His mind raced. Purpose? Survival? Defense? Protect Aysh?

The gun solidified, adjusting itself in response to his thoughts. The metal was polished to a bright silver, lines reshaping into a weapon of precision.

MANDO It… it changed… on its own.

Kael nodded once.

KAEL Good. That's step one. You're learning without realizing it. But step two… is learning to push it beyond instinct.

They moved to a small abandoned warehouse nearby, its walls scarred from old fights and the floor littered with debris. Kael gestured for Mando to stand in the center.

KAEL You will shoot the targets. Simple. But every target is moving unpredictably. Every shot you fire must adapt to the target, the environment… your own body.

Mando swallowed. The targets, floating metallic orbs, hovered and darted unpredictably. They were small, fast, and deadly if he missed and let them hit the sensors, which would release electric shocks.

He raised the gun. The hum thrummed in his hands. For the first time, he felt connected to the weapon, like it was listening to him, waiting for him to act.

He fired.

The bullets curved, shifted midair, and hit every target on the first volley. Mando staggered backward, disbelief on his face.

MANDO How… how did I…?

Kael's lips curved slightly.

KAEL You didn't do it. It did. You just let it. That's what makes you dangerous. But it's only dangerous if you learn discipline.

Hours passed. Rain returned, falling outside the broken warehouse windows as Mando trained relentlessly. Kael guided him with quiet observation, correcting his stance, his breathing, his focus. Each bullet reshaped itself according to Mando's intent, and he felt a rush of power he'd never known before.

By nightfall, Mando was exhausted. Sweat soaked his shirt, his arms ached, and his mind was on fire. Yet beneath the fatigue, there was exhilaration, a sense of something awakening inside him.

Kael stepped back, folding his arms.

KAEL Enough for today. You need to rest. But remember this: every time you think you understand your weapon, it will teach you something new. You are not the one in control. You are the apprentice.

Mando nodded, barely hearing him, caught in his own thoughts.

Meanwhile, back at the apartment, Aysh paced the floor. Her hand hovered over the communicator she had hidden beneath a loose floorboard. Her eyes flickered to the window and the empty street below.

AYSH (whispering) He's awake… and he's stronger than I imagined.

Her jaw tightened.

AYSH (whispering) I can't tell him. Not yet.I have to protect him… but if I hesitate too long… it could cost us both.

A shadow passed across her mind, the image of her sister, bound, struggling, waiting. Aysh clenched her fists and turned away from the window.

AYSH Soon. Soon I'll make my move.

The city slept or pretended to as Mando trained under Kael's watchful eyes, unaware that the world around him was already shifting. Somewhere far above, the gears of fate began to turn, and nothing would remain ordinary for long.
