Television is one of the most popular inventions of science. It is no more a thing of luxury because its utility has been established. Different programmes are telecast on it. There are programmes for children,women, students, ladies, old and retired persons, farmers. The programmes entertain, instruct, enlighten and inform. The Government uses the T.V. for propaganda purpose to convince the people as to its policies. The industrialists advertise to increase their business. Housewives learn lessons from it in cooking and housekeeping. It telecast news and information relating to the conditions of the world. People are enlightened on the important problems of the country and are kept informed on the latest developments in the field of science, sports, production, medicine and the like. The greatest service that the T.V. does is that of entertaining people from all walks of life. Children keep stuck to it; students forget studies; housewives neglect household works; service people miss important engagements. It has made people unsocial and left a bad effect on health. It has therefore been called the 'Idiot Box'. But these are all the misuses of the T.V. Proper use of T.V. can prove to be a boon for human society.
