Darkness.
The literal meaning is "Absence of Light", although nobody uses it in that literal sense.
Im no different, i was floating in the darkness, well that was my first thought, but taking a look around i could see stars..? Like i was in space, that was pretty cool...And scary at the same time, or atleast it would if i could feel anything, i just felt the tireness of my soul drifting away from me. Was this the after life or something? Well atleast they could have brought me to heaven or whatever.
Drowning in my thoughts about my life, 15 years living in peace, with a good life, but undoubtedly a waste of life, before I could go any further into my thoughts, something pulled me from my reflection: light. Ahead of me, still far away, was a great amount of light. I couldn't even look at it for more than 3 seconds without feeling my eyes burning. But there was no doubt, I felt my body being pulled by the light, or was the light approaching me? Well, I don't know. It was like that light at the end of the tunnel, you know? Where you reach the good ending or something, maybe i was reencarnating? That would be cool to be honest...Reencarnating in a magic world like the novels and mangás i used to read back at home.
As I got closer to the light, I completely lost my senses, it was difficult to stay awake. The only thing I remembered was looking around and seeing only light; the darkness was gone.
...A while passed, 1 second, then 5 seconds, turning into 1 minute...what was i saying? probably just my brain trying to give my mind some hopes after dying in a pathetic way. But out of nowhere i felt a strong breeze.
My mind then went blank, regaining my senses, feeling the strong breeze of the wind, the scent of the flowers entering my nose, the warmth of the sun hitting my short black hair, an unfamiliar comfort, the ground cushioning my socks, and then, full of curiosity and with my mind racing, I opened my eyes.
The first thing that caught my attention was the absence of pain in my neck. I placed my fingers on the front of my neck, feeling its gentle, friendly skin. Then I looked at my hands, noticing the few calluses I had from going to the gym. I looked around and saw a field of flowers, a sunny sky, and before looking ahead, I saw a girl. I couldn't quite see her face since she had her back to me. She had silvery hair, like a combination of ice and snow, a white-purple dress, and orbs of various colors floated in front of her. It looked like a scene from a movie. If it were nighttime with the starlight, it would be even more beautiful. I decided to walk towards her; I needed to ask where she was. I approached cautiously. She seemed focused, and I didn't want to scare her.
Getting closer to her, I called out to her.
"Excuse me, could you please tell me where I am?"
The girl in front of me startled and turned around to look at me. She seemed surprised, she wasn't expecting anyone to be there.
"Uh-uh, you are at the Mathers Mansion..."
I looked and stared at the girl sitting in front of me. It was an incredible sight. She was very beautiful. Her hair, now seen from the front, shone in the sunlight. Her eyes were purple, like an amethyst, her skin was white, her hands were gentle, and she had an innocent smile. Her ears were pointed, like those of an elf or a non-human being. Wait, pointed ears!? She said Mathers Mansion, right? Like from that novel called "Re:Zero." So the girl in front of me, with silver hair like a combination of snow and ice, eyes as purple as an amethyst, a gentle smile, and the ears of a half-elf was Emilia, the main heroine of the story!?
Emilia's Pov
It was a beautiful morning, I was lying down on my bed, I had just woken up, the sunlight was streaming through my bedroom window, signaling that it was time to start the day. I looked at the pendant around my neck and finally got up to begin my day. I took a shower, put on my white and purple dress, and went to the dining room. There were Ram and Rem, the maids of the mansion.
"Ahhh~~ Good morning, I'm so glad you woke up healthy, Emilia-sama. I hope your morning went well~"
"Good morning Roswall, yes, my morning went well. Good morning Ram and Rem."
"Good morning Emilia-sama."
Honestly, I was always impressed by how Ram and Rem could talk at the same time. I know they were twins, but it still impressed me. I watched as Rem served Roswall and me a basket of bread, a plate of ham, cheese, and butter, and finally some appas. While I was putting an appa on my plate to cut, I noticed that Frederica wasn't there. It was strange; she was never late.
"Uhh Roswall, where's Frederica...?" Roswall looked at me calmly, as if the answer was obvious.
"Frederica is currently preparing the tea~~"
"Ah, I understand..."
After finishing breakfast, Roswall and I planned what we were going to do today, the usual, study for when the Royal selection takes place.
So I left the room and started my morning routine. I walked down the mansion's hallway, I've been here for about two months now, but I was still surprised by how big the mansion was, went down the stairs, and went out the front door, feeling the cold wind brush against my skin. I walked to the garden and sat down, concentrating on the orbs of different colors in front of me. They were spirits, creatures made of mana. I always talked to them in the morning, they tell stories, and I talk about my studies and magic. A few minutes later I felt my pendant tremble. This usually happenez when Puck wakes up, but nothing happened.
"Strange...Puck should be already awake at this hour...He must have slept a little longer." I smiled and forgot about it, focusing my attention on the spirits in front of me, when I heard a voice behind me. I was startled, I mean, I wasn't expecting visitors, at least Roswall hadn't said anything about it. It sounded like a sweet and gentle voice.
"Excuse me, could you please tell me where i am?"
I turned around and my eyes met his light brown ones. He looked like a boy about my age, with short, dark hair, and seemed to be my height. He was wearing a black t-shirt and dark blue pants,I was a little surprised, he was wearing pajama pants...? Well, they looked comfortable...He didnt have any shoes, his socks were directly touching the grass, i have never done that before, maybe i should try...
"Uh-Uh you are at the Mathers Mansion..."
Haru's Pov
I felt my blood running faster through my body, i couldnt process the fact that i got isekaid to a novel i used to read back at home, atleast its my favourite novel. "Re:zero" It follows the story of "Natsuki Subaru", a 17 year old neet boy who after going on a trip to buy chips and a couple of noodles he suddenly gets teleported to the capital of Lugnica, if i really am in this world, maybe its like a second chance...
I said as i felt a few smalls tears running down my cheeks, before i could stop them, they were already wet, but i just stand there smiling.
"E-Ehh, Are you okay...? Why are you crying???"
"Ah... Its nothing, thank you for your concern, Emilia, Im Haru, nice to meet you" I said brushing off the tears coming down my eyes.
"If you say so... Nice to meet you Haru...Are you a guest perphaps..?"
That questions kinda got me, but i already knew what to say.
"Well, a few things happened and i got lost, maybe i could talk to the lord of this mansion to help me out...?
"I see...Yes im sure Roswall can help you"
Emilia stood up, and we walked side by side to the mansion's doors.
Hmm, what could the timeline be? It could be any timeline... if Emilia is already here at the mansion, it means it could be months before the royal selection or even during it... If it's already during it, then Subaru has already appeared, but wouldn't he be with her now? Well, that doesn't matter, now, I have to come up with an excuse to stay in this mansion.
As I delved deeper into my thoughts, a light formed beside me. I looked and saw a small blue and white cat, it was Puck, Emilia's great spirit.
"Good morning, Milia," he said cheerfully, yawning.
"Good morning, Puck. Did you sleep well?"
"Yes, it's a beautiful morning today." Then Puck looked at me, and seconds later froze.
"Hm? Did something happen, Puck? Ah! This is Haru. He said he got lost, so I'll take him to Roswall. Maybe he can get help."
I found it strange. Puck looked at me in a very strange way. I couldn't read people well, so I didn't know what was going on in his mind. I only heard him murmur something that Emilia and I didn't hear.
A few minutes later, Emilia and I finally arrived at Roswall's office.
"This is Roswall's office. I'm sure he can help you."
"Thank you, Emilia, I'm sure he will." Emilia smiled back, she looked radiant. Before we knocked on the door, Puck caught our attention.
"Emilia, I'm going to see Beatrice, she wanted to spend some time with me, take care."
"Oh, okay Puck, see you later.", Emilia said as I watched Puck open a door and go inside.
Emilia knocked on the door. On the other side, I heard Roswall let her in. We both went inside. I closed the door with a slightly nervous movement, and Roswall looked at me surprised, his mouth open, but it quickly turned into a strange smile.
"Emilia-sama, what brings you here~"
"Roswall, this is Haru. He got lost and needs help. I told him that maybe you could help him."
Roswall then looked at me with an even wider smile, which, to be honest, scared me a little.
"I see~~ So, Haru, how did you get lost?"
I quickly replied with a touching story. "I'm a mercenary. I was on my way to Kararagi, where I live, when I had an argument with my boss. He got so angry that he left me behind. I was living with some of my colleagues, and now I have nowhere to stay and no money with me. If you could, could you help me?" Good job, Haru, good answer!!
"Hmm~~ I see, of course, I'd be happy to help you, how about staying at my mansion as a guest?"
Phew, I'm very good at pretending, I already have a place to sleep, thank God.
"Of course, that would be perfect, Lord Roswall."
"Then it's settled, Emilia-sama could introduce you to Frederica"
Okay...Let's go Haru, Frederica is one of the maids, she must be cleaning the kitchen."
I replied, just nodding my head. We both left the office and headed towards the kitchen. We arrived and there were three maids there. Two were identical in size and height, differing only in hair and eye color, these were Rem and Ram. Next to them, cleaning the dishes, was a maid with long blonde hair, delicate skin, green eyes, and sharp teeth.
"Ah, Frederica, Roswall asked me to find you, so you could get a clean room to Haru, he is a guest"
Rem and Ram just straight up looked at me i shivered wondering if i had any miasma, if i did, it would be a huge problem...Frederica on the other hand looked at me gently and snapped me out of my thoughts.
"Haru-sama right? Then come with me, i will show you your bedroom."
Frederica and I made ourselfs to a random bedroom, Emilia said she had to studied, so she just left to her own duties, as we reached the the bedroom i opened the door.
"Hmm well loos good, Thank you uhh Frederica"
Frederica bowed and answered immediately.
"I hope its as your likes, Haru-sama, i will take my live to keep doing my work."
"Alright see you later"
She just nod and walked away, i closed the door and sit on the bed.
"Well atleast i know whats the timeline now, Frederica is here, everything is fine with Rem, Emilia is studying for the royal selection, meaning this is pre arc 1, and Subaru hasn't been teleported, and from what i remembered from the novel its said in the novel Frederica left the mansion three months before Subaru appeared i think, meaning i still have a lot of time before the main events..."
Feeling tired, Haru just feel asleep...
