The Engagement Banquet was held at the Royal Crystal Hotel, the most luxurious venue in the city.
Tonight, the entire upper-class society was present. Men in tuxedos and women in evening gowns held champagne glasses, whispering among themselves.
"Hey, did you hear? Victor Cheyne is going to propose tonight."
"Hehe, you mean that famous 'Lick-dog' of the Cheyne family? It's pathetic. He has billions, yet he bows down to Sophia like a servant."
"Shh! Look, Sophia is here."
The crowd parted. Sophia, the eldest daughter of the White family, walked in. She was wearing a white dress, looking cold and arrogant, like an ice lotus that couldn't be touched.
Standing slightly behind her was a man in a cheap, off-brand suit.
He stood straight like a spear, with a cynical smile on his face. This was the protagonist, Lin Feng.
"Miss Sophia," Lin Feng whispered, looking at his cheap watch. "It's 7:30 PM. Victor is late. He clearly doesn't respect you."
Sophia frowned. Her beautiful face showed impatience. "Victor is getting more and more undisciplined. Usually, he waits at the door an hour early."
"Maybe he realized he's not good enough for you," Lin Feng laughed lightly, his eyes full of mockery.
In Lin Feng's eyes, Victor was just a rich second-generation fool. Lin Feng was the "War God" who had returned to the city. Once he recovered his cultivation, he would crush the entire Cheyne family with one finger.
Just as the guests were getting restless...
BOOM!
The heavy golden doors of the banquet hall were pushed open with a loud bang.
The noisy hall instantly went silent.
Two rows of bodyguards in black suits rushed in first, pushing the crowd aside forcefully to create a wide path. They looked fierce, their hands hovering near their waists (implying weapons).
"Who is making such a big scene?" someone muttered angrily.
But the next second, everyone shut up.
Victor walked in.
He wasn't holding the humble bouquet of roses everyone expected. He had one hand in his pocket and a cigar in the other. His black trench coat moved with the wind, giving him an aura of terrifying pressure.
He didn't look like a "Lick-dog." He looked like a Mafia Godfather.
Sophia was stunned for a second. She had never seen Victor like this. But soon, her anger returned.
She walked forward, crossing her arms. "Victor! You are thirty minutes late! Do you have any manners?"
The guests held their breath. In the past, Victor would have knelt down and apologized profusely by now.
But Victor didn't stop.
He walked straight past Sophia, as if she were air.
He walked to the main seat—the "throne" reserved for the head of the banquet—and sat down comfortably. He crossed his legs and took a puff of his cigar.
"V-Victor?!" Sophia turned around, her face turning red with humiliation. "I am talking to you! Are you deaf?"
Victor finally looked at her. His eyes were indifferent, like looking at a stranger.
"Noisy," Victor said, spitting out a ring of smoke. "Since when does a vase need to talk so much?"
"Vase?!" (花瓶?!)
The entire hall gasped. Victor called his goddess a useless vase?!
Sophia's body trembled with rage. "You... how dare you..."
At this moment, Lin Feng saw his chance to be the hero.
He stepped forward, blocking Victor's view of Sophia. He exuded a faint "murderous aura" (which he thought was scary).
"Mr. Cheyne," Lin Feng said in a deep, 'righteous' voice. "You went too far. Apologize to Miss Sophia immediately. Being rich doesn't mean you can trample on a woman's dignity."
Lin Feng was confident. Usually, rich kids were scared of his 'War God' aura.
But Victor just tilted his head and looked at Lin Feng with amusement.
"And who are you?" Victor asked.
"I am Sophia's bodyguard, Lin Feng," he replied proudly.
Victor laughed. It was a cold, mocking laugh.
"A bodyguard?"
Victor stood up slowly. He was taller than Lin Feng, looking down at him with absolute contempt.
"This is a banquet for the elite. I am the host, and she is the guest."
Victor pointed at Lin Feng's nose.
"So, who let the dog in without a leash?"
