"Young miss!" A burly man who had clearly cried so much he could refill a river rushed toward Bai Lingling like a panicked chicken.
The rest hurried after him...
until the burly man froze mid step, staring at Bai Lingling's hand like it was the gates of hell.
Everyone's eyes followed him, and the moment they saw the dripping severed head…
the entire team collectively lost their souls.
The only woman among them gagged so violently even the trees flinched. She clutched her stomach and turned away. "Young miss, what is that?!" The lady asked refusing to look again.
Bai Lingling stared at Madam Liu's head and then back at them like they were the crazy ones.
"It's a gift. What do you mean?" she said, as if carrying heads was normal Tuesday behavior.
The man who Bai Lingling figured out was Uncle Shen cleared his throat as a confused smile appeared on his face.
"Little Miss… what do you mean a gift? That is clearly the head of a dead person," Uncle Shen said, his smile trembling like jelly left in the sun. He was really confused.
Because earlier they had all been worried for the well being of their little miss, so they simply did not expect to find her drenched in blood, almost lifeless with the head of a dead woman in her hands.
"Here, pack it up," Bai Lingling said, stretching the head toward Uncle Shen like she was handing him fresh buns.
Uncle Shen instinctively stepped back, fighting the urge to vomit his entire soul.
"Eh… young miss, did you perhaps hit your head?"
Uncle Shen's voice shook.
He looked one second away from begging the heavens to return his normal young miss.
"Are you feeling ok, how about you put this down first?" Uncle Shen forced a smile at the girl he had sworn his life to always protect.
Everyone around also nodded in agreement, thinking that after their little miss was kidnapped she had hit her head somewhere that caused her to become even stranger.
But Bai Lingling was not having any of this as she pushed her hand towards Uncle Shen, causing him and others to take multiple steps back.
"I said pack this up, Uncle Shen. It's a gift for someone special."
Her tone gained that irritated edge that made everyone stand up straighter like startled deer.
"Plus I am really hungry, we should continue our journey, I also have to wash up"
Seeing that their young miss was acting really strange from the fragile girl they had gotten used to, Uncle Shen could only nod.
He signaled for someone behind him to step forward and take away Madam Liu's head from Bai Lingling's hand.
But the moment the men behind saw his signal, The men behind instantly scattered like terrified pigeons, forming a path so wide you would think a royal carriage was passing, because no one for some reason wanted to touch the head of a dead person.
They all looked like scared chickens. "And you call yourselves warriors?" Bai Lingling scoffed.
Somewhere in the distance, their pride died quietly.
Making up her mind she walked to one of the soldiers who looked particularly interesting to her and before he could even react she simply stretched her hand out and dropped the heavy head in his hands.
The poor man nearly ascended to the heavens on the spot.
"Make sure you beautify it for my special someone" she said sweetly.
It was the smile of a girl in love…
just holding someone's head.
The guard who she had given the head of Madam Liu to felt like crying, but Bai Lingling did not care instead she looked around for a sign of carriage or transportation.
Because she remembered from the memories of the original owner of this body, they had been on the way to her new city but there wasn't any sign of carriage in sight.
"Um..." Bai Lingling started as she turned slowly but the sight that she met next made her freeze, When she turned around, everyone was suddenly on their knees.
It looked like a mass repentance ceremony. Uncle Shen was the closest to her.
"Young miss, we do not deserve to live for not keeping up with our promise we made to Madam before we passed" Uncle Shen was on his knees with his head bowed.
But what confused Bai Lingling more was the fact that a grown man like this was wailing in front of her and his juniors.
If only he knew that the original owner of this body had been so stupid she followed those bad people willingly because she did not want harm to come to them, Bai Lingling wondered what this Uncle Shen would say then.
"Get up! All of you!" Bai Lingling snapped.
"You think I care about some stupid promise? I am hungry, you hear me? HUNGRY!"
The guards froze. Hunger, apparently, was more terrifying than revenge at the moment.
Her outburst made everyone freeze and slowly look up. They all looked confused, because the girl before them was clearly their young miss who was weak and bullied her whole life.
But for some reason she seemed more different and confident that what they actually knew.
"U-uh" The lady finally spoke, "Young miss… I-I have some mooncake," Lin Xiaoyu whispered, lifting the pouch like a peace offering to a dragon. She opened her pouch taking out some moon cake from it and Bai Lingling smiled.
"Amazing, can I have some!" The once irritated Bai Lingling suddenly turned like a bright warm flower after the mention of food and everyone could only simply blink as they realized that little miss have gone crazy!
"Y-yes" The lady who was the caretaker of the original owner of this body smiled once as she got up and approached Bai Lingling.
"Thank you" Bai Lingling said as she reached out for one and then stopped herself because of this blood on her hands.
She was a really disciplined cultivator, but right now she was in a critical condition plus no matter what she was still a snake demon so she wouldn't risk it.
Instead she took some of the moon cake with a paper and ate it happily. Then she turned to guards who were still staring at her dumbfounded.
"Now let's go" Bai Lingling said and simply turned and started walking. she said, walking forward like nothing unusual had happened.
