Chapter 33 - God Slayer

The everflowing miasma of Darkness flowed from nearly every surface of the factory floor creating a shallow pool of darkness at their feet, the dark wisps covered all sources of light engulfing Reserve in boundless darkness. Damian could barely see despite his incredible vision as the vestige of Javier almost blended into the surroundings, with this skull like helm being the most clearly visible section of his form.

Behind the mask Javier was grinning ear to ear, he would enjoy ripping Damian apart in front of all to see, well they couldn't see it but they would surely be the ones to clean up afterwards, he knew he could just drown Damian at any moment meaning that his victory was already in hand, he just wanted the joy of tearing his still living flesh apart.

Gripping the coiled Nail in both hands he readied himself, he was cautious of the strange blade and its almost hypnotic patterns but he had all the advantages in this fight so why worry about one insignificant knife? He could feel the strength of ten men coursing through his veins as the darkness that surrounded them infused him with greater strength, the darkness was his ally not Damians, he would not lose in his own domain.

Rushing forward Javier aimed for his opponent's chest, aiming to carve it open with one powerful strike, suddenly the blade flashed through the air redirecting the spear away from its intended target as a large fist came towards his torso.

Damian's fist struck the strange cloak which felt like it had been woven out of tempered steel, a dull pain radiated through his arm as he stepped away hoping to create a little distance, but Javier didn't allow him as he released the spear from one of his hands, forcing it into Damian's side, the speed and power behind the strike was enough to knock Damian to the floor as he landed on one knee.

The force of the strike was unreal, it was simply inhuman, Damian had not encountered many creatures whose strength rivaled that of what Javier possessed at this time, the strength and speed were far greater than he had seen before from the man. Not having much time to think he scrambled back, barely avoiding a kick to the head as he jumped back to his feet.

Javier left no time for Damian to get his rhythm in this fight, launching a devastating volley at him in the hopes of overwhelming the man, he managed to deflect a few strikes but still many of the attacks found their mark, cutting across his skin and into the muscle below, the smell of fresh blood filling Javier with so much joy, he couldn't stop smiling at the thought of the feast they would have after this.

Damian was being pressured by the endless onslaught of attacks but despite all of that, no matter how many injuries he took he kept moving back, deflecting the blows he could and turning to minimize the ones he couldn't, until he finally stepped forward slashing the knife against the inside of Javier's arm after he overextended. The blade connected with his skin, shrouded in a nebulous darkness which made him look more like a living embodiment of the abyss itself than a man, the darkness pushed against the blade as if trying to protect its master but in the end he managed to leave a shallow gash on his arm before backing up once more.

Javier stepped back as well and examined the small wound on his arm, cutting through his defences in his current state was surely an accomplishment worthy of praise but was this seriously the best Damian could do, he watched as small trickles of blood dripped down to the floor, his attention was quickly drawn back to the blade in Damian's hands as he stared at it with intense emotion. The blade was clearly a powerful weapon but what else was it capable of, he wasn't worried about it before but now he had a sinking feeling in his stomach that he needed to disarm him as quickly as possible and take the knife for himself.

Jasper hung motionless in his prison, the faint wheezing from the pain and shallow breaths betrayed the face that he was still alive down here, broken in body but not in spirit, he could hear the sounds of fighting happening some distance away, he knew Damian was fighting for their freedom and he was stuck here powerless to help in any meaningful way. Until something strange happened, it wasn't much but he suddenly felt his body start to trickle with strength, it wasn't a lot but it was something as the wounds covering his body slowly began to mend themselves as his vision changed, he wasn't just in the damp cellar anymore, instead his senses were heightened by the darkness, his emotions raging as he attempted to free the knife of his enemies control, as he watched the fight happening above his head through the lens of Javier, with his thrall being none the wiser.

Of course to call the man a thrall would be a little much, in truth it was closer to a commander leading an army of unwilling soldiers, he couldn't influence him completely at this point all he could do was drain his strength and see what he saw. Jasper knew that for every new cut on Javier's body their connection would become greater and greater, with more of Javier's strength being stolen every second until his mind eventually fell as well. Jasper focused on this connection, happy to feel that his body was recovering its strength piece by piece and that even in the worst case scenario, he would at least survive this place, even if no one else did.

Javier attention was completely drawn to the blade, its beautiful patterns shifting were too mesmerising to ignore any longer even if he could only see in shades of grey in the darkness, he switched tactics at this point, aiming to disarm Damian instead of maiming him, he attempted again and again to strike at his arm and shoulder, hoping to get his hands on that blade. Every attempt was met with a strike back, with many of them being deflected away and the ones that did land not making Damian falter even for a moment, it was as if he was more of a machine then a man, he continued these attacks over and over again until suddenly the blade disappeared from sight, shimmering into the air as if it was never there to begin with.

The momentary confusion was shattered as a stabbing pain echoed through his arm, as the blade reappeared, blood dripping from its surface as another strike found its mark then another, Jaiver had become too focused on the blade that he failed to account for the man wielding it, completely forgetting the powers that Damian possessed as he backed away, trying to see him in full view, it was a strange sensation, he could see Damian's damaged form in front of him, but he found himself unable to focus on anything but the blade, his mind was burning, trying to fight against the compelling force of the blade and concentrate on the real threat.

He had to take Damian down before it was too late, he was strong enough to understand that something was pulling his attention away, distracting him and causing him to make mistakes he would otherwise avoid, and was it just the battle or was his body starting to feel weaker than before. He tried to ignore the strange state of his body and mind for the moment to focus on Damian, the Coiled nail tightly in hand as he lunged forward, aiming for the man's heart in hopes of ending this fight before the tides changed too much he placed all of his strength into the strike but as he was about to make contact his aim deviated, piercing into and out of his side instead, he heard the cracking of bone as the spear broke through his flesh but as happy as he was to shed the blood of this man he couldn't help but draw his attention down.

As he did the simmering blade came into view, its surface so beautiful he forgot where he was for just a moment, before the sight of it was burned into him forever as the blade cut upwards, following the crack in the skull Damian sliced upward and through the mask, it was incredibly tough but using all of his available strength he pushed the blade into the man's face, slicing across its side, leaving a nasty wound which had destroyed one of Javier's silvery eyes.

Javier stumbled back, blood pouring down his face as incredible pain shot through his body, as his back hit the floor the sound of cracking bone echoed around him as a voice called out to him,

[Your memory as been Destroyed]

As suddenly the world around them changed, the darkness filling the factory hall dissipated into the light as countless cattle looked down on him, he could see their faces painted with looks of shock and bursting with joy as they saw the man laying on the ground, he thought about how he would kill the mall for looking at him in such a way, how dare they mock the a go…

he never got to finish his thought as a sudden pain radiated from his chest, as he looked up all he could see now was the figure of the man he had been fighting standing over him, as something cold pierced his chest, and as he looked he saw his masterpiece, his very first creation be the very thing that ended his life.

As the final wisps of darkness faded away around them Damain stood their motionless, his wounds were serve and he felt like he would collapse any second but he took the time to stare at Javier's face as he drew his last breath, as a voice called out to him,

[You have slain Dreamer Javier]

[You have received a memory]

Damian's eyes widened as he heard those words, but before he could process what that meant a sudden influx of power invaded his body.
