Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Side Mission, Done!

After eating, Kamio Tatsuya said hello to the older student across from him and left first.

Next, he planned to go to the school's store. Being new here, he needed to get things like toiletries.

When he got to the closest store, Kamio Tatsuya saw a classmate picking up trash there. He remembered hearing his name during the introductions earlier.

Ayanokouji Kiyotaka, the emotionless guy who was always secretly watching the class from the back row by the window.

Since they were classmates, he figured he should say hello now that he saw him.

"Did something bad happen to you?"

The sudden question surprised Ayanokouji Kiyotaka, who was picking up trash from the ground. He looked up and saw Kamio Tatsuya's face.

"Uh, I think you're Kamio from our class?"

"That's right, Kamio Tatsuya. It looks like you're in some kind of trouble."

As he said that, Kamio Tatsuya pointed to the instant noodles and soup that were spilled all over the ground.

"Um, it's a long story," Ayanokouji Kiyotaka said, looking a little embarrassed. "Do you want to hear it?"

Now, not only was Ayanokouji Kiyotaka embarrassed, but the air felt awkward too.

What's up with this guy?

Kamio Tatsuya thought he was being weird.

"No, if it's a long story, then don't tell it. I need to go buy some things at the store."

After turning down Ayanokouji Kiyotaka's desire to talk, Kamio Tatsuya went into the store behind him.

The store had more things than Kamio Tatsuya thought. Of course, it had things like toothpaste, toothbrushes, and shampoo for everyday use.

Kamio Tatsuya even saw some items that were made in China, and they didn't seem too expensive.

But after looking around, Kamio Tatsuya chose what he needed from the shopping carts placed to the side with a sign that said "Free."

He wasn't worried about cheap things being low quality or having problems.

Since these things were openly displayed in the store, he didn't have to worry about their quality, at least not too much. They just might not work very well.

This was a school with a lot of money, so if they sold something that could hurt people, the school would be the first to panic, not the users.

In his past life, he used to use cheap shampoo that came in big bottles for just a few dollars, so he wasn't worried.

After picking out the things he needed, Kamio Tatsuya paid and left the store.

The store clerk didn't seem surprised that Kamio Tatsuya was taking a lot of free items. This made Kamio Tatsuya think his guess was right.

This school had a lot of students who didn't have enough points. The free food and toiletries were for them.

This wasn't just helping students who wasted too many points. It was showing pity to those who didn't have any points left.

Thinking about it that way, his guess made even more sense.

When he left the store, Ayanokouji Kiyotaka was gone. He looked at the time, and it was already 1 PM.

Kamio Tatsuya planned to go back to the dorm and rest in the afternoon. He also wanted to tell Nagumo or Asahina his conclusion to see if his guess was right.

But Kamio Tatsuya went back to the dorm, lay down on the bed, and fell asleep. When he woke up, it was almost dinner time.

[Nagumo, I think I've found some things that are strange about this school.]

Soon after he sent the message, Kamio Tatsuya received a reply.

[Oh? Already? I thought it would take you more than three days.]

Three days? You think that highly of me?

Kamio Tatsuya frowned. If he hadn't gotten lucky and gotten information from the third-year student, he might not have found out the truth about the school in three days.

But maybe he would have.

[It was just luck.]

Soon after he sent that message, his phone rang. It was Nagumo calling.

"Hello, Nagumo."

"Nazuna is really interested in how you figured it out. You don't have anything to do right now, right? Come to the school cafeteria on the third floor."

Nagumo's tone was firm and left no room for argument. He didn't even ask Kamio Tatsuya's opinion. He just told him to go to the school cafeteria on the third floor.

Kamio Tatsuya was speechless.

Who did this guy think he was?

But he didn't refuse. After all, he was the one who gave him the task. And he was going to the cafeteria to eat anyway. Besides, it wasn't a bad idea to let that guy think he was easy to talk to.

"Okay, I understand. I'm in the dorm right now. I'll be there soon."

On the other end, Nagumo Miyabi put down his phone and looked at Asahina.

"You heard that, right?"

"I did. But did he really find out the truth about this school?"

"Who knows? We'll find out when he gets here."

Unlike Asahina Nazuna, who was doubtful, Nagumo Miyabi didn't care. He didn't care whether Kamio Tatsuya knew the truth about the school or not.

He was just a new kid, after all.

About fifteen minutes later, Kamio Tatsuya met Nagumo Miyabi and Asahina Nazuna in a private room on the third floor of the cafeteria.

"Kamio, did you really discover the true nature of this school? If you're lying, I'll be angry, okay?"

Asahina Nazuna said with a smile.

Kamio Tatsuya felt a little uncomfortable. Why was she calling him 'sister'? Was she even older than him mentally? Besides, he was 167 cm tall, which was average height in Japan. What nonsense was she talking about?

"I can only say that I've found some things. Whether they're right or not is up to you to decide, Asahina."

Kamio Tatsuya said with a helpless look on his face.

"Okay, tell me. If your conclusion is correct, I'll treat you to a fancy dinner."

Kamio Tatsuya looked at her, thought for a moment, and then said, "Let's start with why most students apply to this school. A 100% college acceptance and job placement rate, that isn't for all the students, is it?"

Hearing this, Nagumo Miyabi and Asahina looked at each other, and then said, "Continue."

"Although I don't know how many people can get this benefit, at least Class D can't enjoy this privilege. Or rather, the students of Class D aren't worthy of this privilege.

And based on my investigation, I think only Class A can enjoy this privilege. If only Class A can enjoy this privilege, then the four classes in the same year can't be friends, right? Nagumo, former Class B."

Nagumo Miyabi laughed. "I didn't expect you to know even that. I underestimated you."

Then he admitted it.

"You're right. Only Class A in this school has the right to freely go to college or get a job. That's why I led Class B to defeat our year's Class A and achieved promotion."
