Every instinct screamed at me to step back.
My wolf stirred uneasily beneath my skin, warning me that Lyra was dangerous, that the tension radiating from her wasn't just anger—it was something darker. Something sharp and desperate.
Still, I forced myself to stand my ground.
Running would only prove what everyone already believed about me.
Weak.
Guilty.
A threat.
"What do you want?" I asked, keeping my voice steady even though my pulse was racing.
Lyra pushed the door shut behind her.
The soft click of the lock sounded far louder than it should have.
Final.
Trapping.
Then she turned back toward me slowly.
"To give you a chance," she said.
Her voice was calm, almost pleasant.
But the look in her eyes carried no kindness.
"One chance to leave quietly and save everyone the trouble."
I frowned.
"Leave? I'm basically a prisoner here."
"For now."
She stepped further into the room, moving slowly. Deliberately.
