Chapter 12 - Chakra Control

Chapter 12: Chakra Control

Ever since Morino Ibiki left the Ninja Academy, the atmosphere of learning at the school suddenly became much more relaxed, and the exams turned incredibly easy.

After Ibiki's warning, Izumo realized the reason behind this policy—so that as many students as possible could graduate quickly and be sent to the battlefield as cannon fodder.

Strangely enough, this aligned perfectly with his own wishes, because it gave him plenty of time to train according to his personal development goals.

At night, Izumo went to a secluded training field on the edge of the village to begin his basic chakra control training.

The first step was a breathing meditation method.

He found a flat patch of grass and sat down cross-legged, closing his eyes, calming his mind of all distractions, and focusing on sensing the chakra inside his body.

The chakra within him felt like scattered points of light, difficult to grasp and gather.

Izumo patiently adjusted his breathing, using a special rhythm: "inhale for four seconds, hold for two seconds, exhale for six seconds," slowly guiding his spiritual energy and physical energy to merge.

As his breathing became more stable, the scattered points of chakra began to gather, forming a weak but clearly defined stream of energy.

Izumo could clearly feel that stream flowing slowly through his energy pathways, gentle like a small, quiet river.

He maintained that meditative state for a full hour.

When he finally opened his eyes again, he felt the chakra in his body had become far more stable, and his perception was noticeably sharper than before.

The next stage was basic hand seal training.

Izumo chose four of the most fundamental hand seals: Tiger, Rabbit, Snake, and Ram, and began practicing them over and over without stopping.

Each time he formed a hand seal, he deliberately slowed his movements to feel the path of the chakra flow changing along with every shift of his fingers.

At first, the chakra showed obvious fluctuations when the seals were formed, sometimes even breaking off entirely.

But as the number of repetitions increased, his fingers became more flexible, and his guidance of chakra grew smoother and smoother.

From barely being able to form ten hand seals per minute, he gradually improved until he could smoothly perform thirty hand seals per minute, all while keeping his chakra stable with no signs of losing control.

The final stage was point concentration training.

He designated the center of his palm as the target point and tried to gather all the chakra in his body into a single spot in his palm.

The chakra felt like flowing sand, impossible to collect. The moment a little gathered, it would immediately scatter again.

Izumo didn't give up. He continued meditating to sense his chakra, stabilizing his energy with his breathing technique, while using the basic hand seals as a guiding aid.

Once, twice, three times…

He lost count of how many times he tried, until finally, a tiny blue sphere of energy the size of a grain of rice appeared in his palm.

The sphere glimmered faintly and pulsed unsteadily.

Izumo held his breath, focusing all his attention on maintaining the shape of that tiny ball.

He could only keep it for three seconds before it vanished, but a spark of hope ignited in his heart.

He then glanced at his proficiency panel, and his eyes immediately lit up:

A new skill had appeared.

No wonder he had felt the process becoming smoother while doing the point concentration training.

"Alright, let's keep going," Izumo encouraged himself.

He continued practicing condensing the energy sphere in his palm. From barely being able to hold it for three seconds, he pushed it to ten seconds, then thirty seconds.

By the time the evening sun began to sink below the horizon, he could already maintain the energy sphere in his palm for a full minute, and its size had grown to that of his thumb.

After three days of basic perception and concentration training, Izumo felt a clear improvement in his chakra control. He then began the next stage of training—tree climbing.

He came to a large tree near the training field. Its trunk was thick, about ten meters tall, and its bark was rough, making it perfect for climbing practice.

Izumo stood beneath the tree, took a deep breath, and slowly channeled chakra into the soles of his feet.

Following the principles of the tree climbing exercise, he controlled the chakra to spread evenly across his soles, then carefully stepped onto the tree trunk.

At first, he released too much chakra. A strong push surged from his feet, pressing slightly into the trunk and leaving a shallow indentation in the bark.

Izumo quickly adjusted and reduced the chakra flow.

But when the chakra was too little, the adhesive force on his feet wasn't enough. His body immediately lost balance and nearly fell.

He steadied himself and tried again.

This time, he controlled the amount of chakra much more carefully, like adding and removing weight from a scale.

After several adjustments, he finally found the right level of chakra flow. The soles of his feet stuck firmly to the tree trunk.

Then, he slowly lifted his other foot and took a small step upward.

The moment his foot left the trunk, his body swayed slightly. Izumo immediately shifted his center of gravity and adjusted the chakra flow in his feet again, until his body stabilized once more.

He continued climbing bit by bit. His movements were slow, but steady and sure.

Every time he climbed another meter, he paused briefly to adjust, feeling the adhesive force between his chakra and the tree's surface.

When he finally reached the top of the tree, his entire body was soaked with sweat, but his heart was filled with a deep sense of accomplishment.

In the days that followed, Izumo practiced tree climbing every single day.

From only being able to climb slowly at first, he progressed to moving up and down quickly, even walking sideways along the trunk, and eventually running across it.

His chakra control became more precise and more powerful.

However, there was one thing he didn't realize.

For the past two days, a small girl with black hair and red eyes had been quietly following him from a distance.
