Cherreads

Chapter 96 - Chapter 96: The Defects

When Han Li began manipulating the gray light created by the talisman, he quickly discovered some significant limitations in the Drive Object Technique. While the gray light was incredibly sharp and could cut through almost anything, it still had its drawbacks.

The first and most glaring issue was the immense amount of spiritual energy required to control the gray light. For someone like Han Li, who had reached the eighth level of the Changchun Gong, using a full-powered Fireball Technique could be done continuously for hundreds of times. However, when it came to controlling the gray light, his spiritual energy would only last for about fifteen minutes before it was completely depleted.

Reflecting on this, Han Li recalled the Golden Light Man's reluctance to use the gray light from the start. The reason wasn't that he didn't want to, but that his spiritual power was so limited that he could only use it for a very short time. This was likely why the dwarf's resistance was so weak when Han Li took the talisman. The dwarf must have already used up most of his spiritual energy in trying to control the gray light, making him an easy target for Han Li, whose spiritual power far exceeded the dwarf's.

Another problem with the gray light was its limited range. Han Li could only control the light within a radius of twenty yards around him. Beyond that, the light would slow down and occasionally malfunction. At thirty yards, the gray light would lose its form completely and fall back to the talisman in its original shape.

Han Li thought that these two issues would improve as his spiritual power increased. However, the third problem was more serious and related to the talisman itself.

After several uses, Han Li noticed that the small gray sword depicted on the talisman was losing its brightness with each use. It seemed that the talisman's lifespan was limited. Once the talisman was used too many times, it would lose its spiritual essence and become useless. This was one of the reasons Han Li stopped practicing the Drive Object Technique once he had a basic grasp of it. He wanted to preserve the talisman for a crucial moment, as it could potentially save his life in a future crisis.

Likewise, Han Li suspected that the golden talisman, which could form a golden protective barrier, might also have similar limitations. However, since he didn't yet know the incantation, he decided to keep it safely stored for future use.

As for the triangular token and the Qin Clan's genealogy book, Han Li had studied them during his breaks, but unfortunately, he hadn't found anything useful.

On the fifth day, after removing his "Closed for Business" sign, Li Feiyu came bouncing in. Upon seeing Han Li, he eagerly began recounting the rumors about Han Li being demonized.

Han Li was both amused and exasperated by the rumors. He stared at Li Feiyu with an expression that mixed disbelief and a hint of annoyance. Li Feiyu laughed heartily at Han Li's expense.

After a while, Li Feiyu finally stopped laughing and composed himself. He spoke to Han Li in a more serious tone. "I'm sure you can guess why I'm here, right?"

Han Li shrugged nonchalantly. "Isn't it because those bigshots can't stop worrying about me and sent you to probe me?"

Li Feiyu grinned and sighed with exaggerated relief. "You're right."

"But," he continued, now sporting a more playful expression, "How am I supposed to report back to them? You know, they promised to make me the Vice-Head of the Outer Blade Hall if I cooperate with them."

Han Li furrowed his brow, then muttered thoughtfully to himself, "Looks like I'll have to meet with the main hall leader, Wang Juechu, to clarify things before they can rest easy."

"Fine. Tell them I'll meet with him at noon tomorrow at Sunset Peak. They don't need to worry." Han Li smiled slightly and reassured Li Feiyu.

"Got it! With that, I can report back and keep my word." Li Feiyu shrugged, looking satisfied.

The two of them chatted for a while, and Han Li even performed the Fireball Technique up close for Li Feiyu, who was awestruck and envious for quite some time. Then, not long after, Li Feiyu left to go back and report to Wang Juechu.

Han Li stood at the door, watching Li Feiyu's retreating figure. He was lost in thought for a while, then suddenly smiled mysteriously. He seemed quite pleased as he closed the door behind him.

The next morning, just as the sky was beginning to brighten, Han Li made his way up to Sunset Peak with stealth and precision. He quietly entered Wang Juechu's room, catching him completely off guard.

When Wang Juechu woke up and saw Han Li standing by his bed, his face turned a ghastly shade. He forced a smile and greeted Han Li awkwardly, "Dr. Han, what brings you here so early? I thought we were meeting at noon. Forgive me for not welcoming you earlier."

Han Li looked at Wang Juechu coldly, and this one glance made Wang Juechu's hair stand on end, his face contorted in discomfort.

Han Li took some satisfaction in seeing the fear in Wang Juechu's eyes. The reason for Wang Juechu's reaction was that Han Li had activated his Heavenly Eye Technique on him. This was a newly discovered application of the technique, which allowed Han Li to induce a psychological disturbance in ordinary people, causing them to feel unsettled. This was somewhat similar to the Soul Capturing Technique rumored to exist in the martial world.

"It's nothing. I just thought it'd be better to come early when everyone's more clear-headed. That way, I won't cause any misunderstandings," Han Li said with a neutral expression, though his tone was anything but friendly.
