Chapter 25 - 25. I Bowed Wrong, Got Criticized for It, and She Agreed to Train Me Anyway

She ran over, completely ignoring her own exhaustion. Her ice bikini armor reformed as she moved, the familiar configuration appearing to replace the training clothes.

It had cracks in it from the sparring damage.

Glacielle knelt down next to him, her face showing real worry and relief. "You're awake... I was so worried about you."

Lucian's voice was hoarse and rough when he said, "How long was I out?"

"It's been six hours since the battle ended..."

"Lady Marshal stabilized your wounds right away, and the banner's healing field has been working this whole time." She gently touched his bandaged chest, checking the wounds with the care of someone who had done it before. "How are you doing?"

"Forget about me..." Lucian looked straight into those light blue eyes. "I'm... sorry, Glacielle."

"For being careless yesterday and almost getting you killed because I didn't know what I was doing... and for being the kind of Master who needed saving instead of protecting you like I should have."

His voice cracked a little. "I promised to treat you like a person, not a tool... but I used you to hide my stupidity."

"No... don't say that." Glacielle shook her head hard. "You took a dragon's claw meant for me in our first real battle."

"You fought with me when you weren't strong enough and felt every bit of my pain... and you called for help when you could have just given up and died."

"You never used me as a shield." She held his hand tightly. "You fought with me as a partner, just like you said you would."

""What you lack isn't heart, Master. It's training and experience... and that can be fixed with time and effort."

A small, real smile crossed her face. "I just want you to live long enough to reach your full potential."

The combination of her word and smile shocked Lucian deeply, almost to the point of death, but it ultimately filled him with determination to become stronger.

With his free hand, Lucian reached up and touched hers. "Then I'll train...! I'll become someone you can really be proud to follow."

"I am already proud, Master..." Glacielle's smile got bigger. "I just want you to be alive to see it."

[Glacielle's trust in Master's INTENT remains absolutely strong]

[She now believes in his CAPACITY to grow and improve]

From the training ground, Marshal had been watching. She walked up to him slowly and stopped exactly five feet away, which is the right distance for a professional.

Her arms stayed crossed, and her face didn't change from its usual stern look.

Even though his body was telling him not to, Lucian made himself stand. Glacielle held him steady, but he gently waved her away.

"I... have to do this on my own."

He stood up straight, three inches shorter than Marshal, but he didn't flinch when he looked her in the eye.

Lucian took a deep breath and spoke clearly. "Marshal Kyrathiel Sunbreaker, I have a request for you."

"Speak," she said in a flat voice.

"I'm weak... and I'm not very good at tactics." There was no self-pity in his voice, just a straightforward assessment. "I almost hurt everyone who trusts me because I didn't know any better."

"You were right when you called me pathetic yesterday."

"But I don't want to STAY pathetic any longer!"

"I have a second chance at life, and I won't waste it like I did the first one."

"I want to become a Master who can lead warriors like you and Glacielle."

He looked right into her eyes. "So I'm asking... no, it's more like I'm BEGGING you to train me!"

"Teach me how to be better at fighting, tactics, and leading... to make me into someone who won't let you down again."

"I know I don't deserve your respect yet, but I promise that in this second life I've been given that I will earn it."

"I won't give up, no matter how hard the training gets or how much it hurts. I won't waste your time."

"Just give me a chance to show that I can change."

Then he bowed deeply and formally, trying to show the respect he had seen in movies and games that were like the military.

For a full fifteen seconds, Marshal let the silence last.

The trees shook in the wind.

The flag flapped in the air.

On the side, Glacielle watched nervously.

"Put your head up, rookie."

Lucian stood up straight and looked her in the eye again.

"That bow was a mess... even your back wasn't straight, and your form was bad."

His heart sank, perceiving it as a rejection.

"But..." Marshal went on, and her face changed in some way. "At least you know you're not good at your job."

"That's more than most new hires can say."

"Most people would make excuses, blame the situation, and complain about how unfair everything is, but here you are... just admitting you were wrong and asking for help."

She shows the smallest nod. "That takes guts."

For the first time since she got here, Marshal uncrossed her arms. "Okay, I'll train and teach you."

"But listen up, rookie... I don't give out participation trophies."

"I don't coddle hurt feelings, and my training WILL SURELY break you down completely before building you back up the right way."

"You'll bleed, cry, and beg me to stop."

"And I won't stop by one tiny bit."

She gave him a hard look. "Quit now, while you still have some dignity."

"Once we start, there's no going back... I will make you a proper Master, or I will watch you fail."

"Those are the only two things that can happen."

"Do you understand that?"

"I won't give up," Lucian didn't think twice. "I already failed once because I was weak, and I won't do it again."

Marshal looked at him one more time before offering him a soldier's handshake.

"Then we have an agreement, rookie."

Lucian held her hand. Her grip was so tight that it was clearly testing his willpower.

He didn't flinch; he just held on as tightly as he could while keeping eye contact with her.

"Training starts at dawn tomorrow." Marshal said, "Get some sleep tonight..."

"It'll be the last good sleep you'll have for weeks."

[Marshal acknowledges Master's DETERMINATION and willingness to improve

[Professional respect beginning to form]

[Relationship Status changed: Master-Instructor (Strict)]

When Marshal turned away to tend the fire, Glacielle whispered to Lucian. "She likes you more than she's letting on..."

"Trust me, if she really thought you were hopeless, she wouldn't bother training you at all."

"How do you know?" Lucian asked in a low voice.

"She didn't walk away, which I consider a positive sign coming from her."

"O-Oh yeah... fair enough."

...

Even though yesterday was crazy, the evening settled into a routine that felt almost calm. Marshal set up the camp with military precision, teaching Lucian how to properly arrange supplies.

"Even how you set up camp is important," she said. "Everything has a purpose and a place."

"In an emergency, you need to be able to grab what you need without thinking."

Dinner was just simple food cooked over the fire. Marshal ate quickly, seeing food as fuel instead of something to enjoy.

Glacielle tried to talk, but most of the time she only got one-word answers. Lucian learned to be okay with the quiet.

Without saying anything, Marshal gave Lucian an extra serving. "You need a good amount of protein to help your muscles heal."

It was the first real act of care, even though it looked like it was just for practical reasons.

Marshal looked at Lucian's wounds with professional skill after he ate. "These bandages aren't very good, but they'll do for now."

She reapplied healing salve from her inventory, her touch careful despite the harsh words. "Don't get the wrong idea; this isn't kindness."

"A broken Master is useless for training."

But the way she moved showed that she was careful, which was the opposite of what she said.

Marshal took advantage of Glacielle's training to teach Lucian basic tactical ideas that he could understand.

"This is called a pincer movement." She drew pictures in the dirt with a stick and said, "When you're outnumbered a lot, you don't fight fair."

"You use terrain advantages, choke points, high ground, and environmental hazards to trap your enemies between two forces."

"War isn't about honor or glory."

"It's about winning while losing as little as possible."
