Bloodhowl Pack had three hundred and forty wolves, twelve sub-territories, and an economy built almost entirely on military contracts with Lycan border garrisons.
Vaelor took the contracts first.
He spent one morning in the revenue chamber with Maren and two treasury officials who had been waiting, quietly and with considerable patience, for an excuse to do exactly this. The contracts Bloodhowl had held for eleven years were reviewed against a clause in the original agreements allowing for termination in the event of confirmed Council conspiracy involvement. The clause had been written into every border garrison contract by Vaelor's father, who had apparently anticipated this kind of moment without expecting to be dead before it arrived.
Vaelor had never appreciated his father's paperwork habits until this particular morning. He appreciated them enormously now.
By noon three hundred and forty wolves had lost their primary income source.
